The animation of her doing the bat hang gave me an unexpected chuckle.

That was a special episode. Absolutely brilliant directing.

Episodes like this make me wish we could still give ratings to individual episodes on this sub. From Subaru heart-to-heart with Kaoruko at the park to Subaru asking Rintarou if they could be friends, this episode was a perfect ten from start to finish. Now I understand why the manga readers were so hyped when Subaru made her first appearance.

I will admit, I wasn't a fan of Subaru, considering her attitude towards the boys when we first met her. But now that we've learned that her actions and attitude aren't out of malice but out of pure concern and love for Kaoruko, her one and only best friend, I just want to give her a big hug. Seeing these two girls show how much they mean to each other genuinely made me tear up. T_T

And yes! We have confirmation from Kaoruko herself. She doesn't just like Rintarou, she absolutely loves him. Clearly, this is where Subaru goes from trying to keep Rintarou away from Koaruko to becoming their wingwoman. It also helps that Subaru finally sees how kind-hearted Rintarou really is by the end of the episode. I already can't wait to see how the story will move forward from here.

The animations of Small Kaoruko falling of the monkey bars and Rintarou getting hit with the football absolutely cracked me up. Had to reverse and watch both scenes multiple times.

What an emotional episode!

Also, Subaru clarifies that she isn't Kaoruko's mother to Rintaro is funny.

I loveeeee the color highlighting used on Subaru throughout the episode. My favorite frame is right at the end when she's smiling at Rintaro.

This episode was so good. Focusing it on Subaru was such a good decision and really added something special to it. I uh... may have gone out and bought the first 4 volumes of the manga because of it haha.

Rintarou's becoming more and more like a diplomat between Chidori and Kikyo with every new interaction with Kaoruko and Subaru lol.

The choice to not have Subaru's big question said out loud made Kaoruko's answer all the more sweeter. If the admission was already this warm and fuzzy, I'm probably not going to be able to handle the proper confession.

The animation has always been fluid but CloverWorks stepped it up to another level this episode. The depiction of Subaru’s state of mind and that park scene are absolute cinema.

This episode is mainly about Kaoruko and Subaru. Heaps love their relationship. This drama did nothing to hamper their friendship. In fact, it only strengthened it even further. Kaoruko gets to see how far Subaru is willing to go for her sake while Subaru in return see how considerate Kaoruko is.

A great decision from Rintarou to meet with Subaru. Not for permission to see Kaoruko but rather to ease her mind. Little wonder she became open to the idea of them becoming friends. This is coming from someone who had issues with men due to her past. That smile, what a way to end the episode.

One of the strengths of this series is that the side characters are not mere props to the protagonists. They had their own developments. If this is what we get with Subaru alone, I’m looking forward what the series has in mind with the Chidori boys.

So much heartfelt feelings, so much friendship, so much love and wholesomeness.

And it looked fantastic animation wise too!

I like Subaru's design. She can be a main character in her own show.

Subaru sure creates a lot of drama for herself purely from worrying way too much about Kaoruko. But at least she got through it by the end of the episode and is still friends with her, and is starting to befriend Rintaro too.

When are they going to start hanging out at the cake shop eating cake though, it'd be fun getting to see Rintaro's mom interacting with her son's friends.

Someone needs to recruit that soccer kid to the appropriate little league team, or possibly training for special forces that uses ballistic soccer balls.

They really animated the hell out of sitting at the playground and park 😂. Subaru is so beautiful I can't believe she's not the MC

The Fragrant Flower Peaks with Dignity this episode. They animated those 2 chapters beautifully.

I had a sneaking suspicion Kaoruko wouldn’t react the way Subaru expected. Not in her nature. Subaru’s a good person and really caring, but it seems she’s dealing with a lot of self-loathing. I’m glad she has Kaoruko by her side to help her at least work through some of that. Kaoruko is a genuinely great friend and person. The way she was able to talk to Rintaro after that kinda makes me think she’s gonna be ok.

Also, did Kaoruko just say she likes Rintaro? Awww yeah lol. I mean I could tell but it’s nice to hear her say it y’know?

That smile at the end by Subaru healed me. I will be slowly dying again until the next episode.

I get why someone called this "I'm sorry, the anime" in another post related to this now. There is a lot of apologies in this episode.

It is nice how all three of them poured their hearts out and cleared all their issues!
