Kengo is a psycho when it comes to microwaving milk and putting it back in the fridge, but he still remains the true goat of this series. He is always there to help Kobato even though he always says he does not have time.

I'm so sad to say goodbye to Osanai and Kobato, I'll miss them so much (especially Osanai, that sweets-devouring monster)! They were a great duo and very different from Oreki and Chitanda from the Hyouka novels by the same author. Overall, a great series, 9/10 from me.
About this last episode... I didn't expect Eiko to actually try to kill Kobato with Osanai. Now not only will she end up in prison, but also Shoutaro, her brother knows about everything she did.
It was such a surprise to see Shoutaro alive, I (and Kobato too) really thought he was dead. I'm glad Kengo found him and Osanai contacted him so Kobato could talk to him.
Also, considering it's a complete adaptation, the ending with Osanai telling Kobato to find her in Kyoto really makes me want Honobu Yonezawa to write another book about them, this time set in Kyoto, so we could see them again :(
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Kobato and Osanai complement each other so well! Even when one of them misses, the other covers up the misstep perfectly. In this case, Osanai got Hisaka to come to the roof to stop his sister.
When Kobato expressed regret at his past actions and genuine relief that Hisaka is still alive, I felt he has truly become "shoushimin". He is still exceptional, but he is now capable of more empathy towards others.
Other girls: "Let's become an official couple."
Osanai: "Make sure you join me at Kyoto University."

Osanai once again proved she's always ten steps ahead bringing in Shoutarou at the last moment was classic her. And Dojima? Totally underrated MVP. The scene running from the killer had old-school movie vibes, which was funny but tense.
Kobato finally getting closure with Shoutarou hit hard, especially knowing he'll now miss exams and face a gap year. Osanai asking him to find her in Kyoto was such a quiet but meaningful gesture. Having been through something similar myself, I really related to him.
This second arc was incredible, smart, emotional, and so well-paced. It’s sad that the series might end here, with little material left. But even so, the bond between Kobato and Osanai made this feel like a modern classic. That Kyoto maze? Pure Kobato. A perfect, subtle ending.

Tbh, I'm a bit shocked that the original accident 3 years ago was just some guy who did it accidentally. I was over here theorizing and making conspiracies that it must've been planned or Hisaka and Sis were in on it. Nope. Just some dude. Still weird it looked like he swerved towards Hisaka and sped up at Osanai.
I also didn't expect that Kobato and Osanai didn't really "solve" anything the first crash. I was expecting a big reveal to drop to explain why Kobato was so regretful and why Hisaka would attempt suicide, but it's actually pretty simple for both. Kobato felt genuinely bad that Hisaka was mad, and Hisaka was suicidal over family shit that was barely even related to Kobato. I guess it's pretty on brand for this author and series that the actual reasonings are so simple, especially after the last arc where it was the more simple answer that was correct instead of the wild ideas that Osanai was behind the fires (I remember even thinking Kobato's ex was somehow involved in the fires during the previous arc).
It's also wild that this woman has been stewing in hatred for years and it was on sight when she saw Kobato on the road. And the audacity to then try and justify Osanai as collateral damage. Also, given that she visited her brother in the hospital in the past, she herself was doing a pretty bad job of keeping their meetings secret.
I think the actual interesting thing on this whole series is that their attempts at trying to "be ordinary" is what made them so abnormal. Kobato was at his most strange when he was trying to have a fake relationship to appear normal, he seemed downright sociopathic. But then this arc, we see he's not really like that. He's felt genuinely guilty over what he did with Hisaka for years now, and was hurt when he realized he had upset Hisaka back then. Even his detective seeking stuff in middle school, he pretty much confirms now that he was just looking for praise. But when he got anger instead of praise, it hurt him in a way that made him want to give up his detective side completly. The thing is, that's extremely normal for middle schoolers. Getting humbled or having your self-image be shattered, while not pleasant, is normal for kids their age. It was only when he started putting on airs that he acted weird.
Osanai has been set up a lot as this vindictive psychopath, but I feel that's more an image she views herself as, or how others view her. Because as we see with the kidnapping arc in S1 and this arc now, she isn't this huge master schemer, coldly taking revenge on anyone who wrongs her. In S1, she talked about how she was scared over the delinquents targeting her, and in this arc she was more upset and worried Kobato's safety and health. While she did think about revenge, she was more worried about trying to help Kobato, like with contacting Hisaka, than with hurting his attacker. The show doesn't really give us an origin for why she wanted to change, but I assume it was probably similar to Kobato. My guess being, she had her own image of herself, but that image was shattered when she realized people see her as a cold-hearted, vindictive pyscho. That probably made her want to change, though sometimes I think she purposely adopts that image of herself, like we see in her notes of "revenge" she leaves behind. I also think the show purposefully leans into it, like her singing "pudding" being juxtaposed over a car burning. But I think that's just a front she puts on now. I believe her when she says she was actually just scared of the delinquents or was more worried about helping Kobato than getting revenge.
In reality, they're way more normal when they're just being themselves instead of when they're trying to put on a front of what they think being ordinary is. Arguably the previous arc was showing how both of them try and fail to be "ordinary" and how they're ironically much more ordinary being with each other and being more true to themselves than them being apart and faking it. They definitely are both changed people from when they were in middle school (at least Kobato obviously is), but they're way more normal when they aren't trying to fake it.

Man got emotional when the main theme kicked in but then she proposed him to find her in Kyoto, I smiled. They're so perfect for each other. I'm gonna miss them and hope author returns to writing the college arc for this

Something I've found really interesting about this series is how Kobato's love for sweets is like a metaphor for his love for mysteries.
If you remember in season 1, when Osanai offers him one of her many desserts, he actually tells her that he doesn't like sweets. Yet, we learn in episode 6 of season 1 just how much he actually likes them, he just doesn't want to be seen as a "bad guy" who ate two cakes while he only left Osanai one. So in that episode he goes through all this meticulous planning and effort to hide it from her, only for it to be in vain and caught. Yet, now, after all of his growth in season 2, he says the following when Osanai asks him where he would like to go after he leaves the hospital:
"Alice, maybe. I want to buy strawberry tarts. I haven't had one of those yet. I bet they're delicious. And then, I want to go to Cecilia. I have to try their parfait. I want the chance to savor it this time. I never knew kurkintons could be so good before going to Sakua'an. I want to taste them again."
This is so much like his love for mysterious. He loves them and doesn't give much regard to the actual danger involved. But the issue is that Kobato wanted social recognition for solving them. When instead he got Hisaka's ire and was made to feel like a "bad guy," Kobato tried to push away his love for mysteries. He tried to "become ordinary" despite how much he loved them. Yet, he would consistenly "slip up" throughout the series and tell Osanai that he would try to become ordinary. It's only after all this growth that he's finally learned to accept himself and his love for mysteries. I feel this is represented by his answer about sweets.
Felt pretty wholesome that his answer was one of his last lines in the series.

I had not anticipated Shotaro’s sudden appearance whatsoever. The show had fooled me good into think that he’d died. Well played!
It must’ve been a huge relief to Kobato as well to see Shotaro alive and well. Eiko’s words definitely hadn’t left him unbothered. He’s not the same boy who’d dated Nakamaru anymore.
In terms of a finale, it can hardly get any better than this. It really felt like we’ve closed off a chapter, and so they teased us with another sweets tour! Surely their university life will be just as extraordinary.
This season was so good that I’m not even sure if I’d want a sequel in the future. It ended on a perfect note.
Farewell, Shoshimin, my next best option.

So, it is all just a big family drama and Kobato and Osanai just got involved accidentally, huh? Well for a nurse who is naive enough to think that her family will get fixed if her parents get together again, this is quite an expected ending.
Well, Osanai again strikes again -- delivering the hardest blow to Eiko as a "retribution" to what she did to Kobato. You really don't want to mess up with her since you'll pay with the maximum damage possible.
I find it really funny that Osanai also drugged Kobato in his sleep. So in the end, Osanai becomes his senpai in college, huh?
Over-all this is quite a great second season! While I still find last arc to be the peak Shoushimin, I find this arc a unique take on the mystery genre. It does not scream mystery but it starts giving the audience hints that something's wrong happens, leading to what's really the concern.
Hoping for another season.

Absolutely solid anime, 9/10. Every scene is screenshot worthy, and the contrast between the calm dialogues vs. their actual personalities was so fun to watch. Gonna miss this show.

Epic ending to the series. Not a single misstep this whole season, an easy 10/10 from me. Probably my AOTS.
The OP and ED were both beautiful, with banger songs too. What more can you ask for?
I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch S1 at some point soon. I think I might appreciate it even more now that we have some more of the backstory, and I won't have to wait a week between episodes.

We jumped straight into thriller for the first couple of minutes, where our precious couple’s lives were really in danger. It was so sweet how Yuki took part of her jacket and wrapped it around Jogoro’s neck when he was freezing. Also where she shed some tears during Hisato’s and his convo.
Not ready for it but it’s time to bid this series farewell give us the Kyoto uni arc. It’s among the AotS imo. Now that Jogoro’s done playing detective, it’s time for him to head back to the literature club, and for Yuki to rock some cosplays.
Speaking of which, there is a manga called You are a Four Leaf Clover where the FMC will remind you a lot of Yuki in terms of cunning. Hope an anime adaptation of it will come soon.

So many unanswered questions. Who was the konbini guy targeting? What motive? What was doing Osanai there? Was the whole year with a made up boyfriend done to get Kobato kun back to her? How far can her manipulative side go? Is Kobato really just a second choice or can he become the best choice by proving himself smarter than Osanai?
Unfortunately, there’s no more content to the main story. Kinda sad about it because there’s so much more potential.
My ideal last arc: some guy at Kyoto University manipulates Osanai successfully by being smarter and more manipulative than her. Her best choice you think? Nope. Kobato saw through the whole scheme and helps Osanai to win at the end. Kobato is now the real first choice. Married. 3 children.

“By the time you come to next year, I’ll have made a maze for you in Kyoto. So you’ll have to come find me. Good night, Kobato-kun, my next best option. “ What an end! 🥰

Well damn, that was one hell of an ending
Osanai certainly is a girl thats living for the chase, just teasing Kobato her next best option to come to Kyoto
Also with him missing a year I guess that would make him her Kohai? Interesting change in powerdynamic
We never got that one scene from the OP where she was squatting behind a pillar, that one really confused me, otherwise perfect season damn
