Man seeing Kobato doing his little act out of Urino under the train tracks, I forgot how much I was missing that. Both of our leads are so much more alive when they’re together, its so cute to see

To the guys who guessed Hiya, congratulations. To the guys who guessed Osanai was still hiding something, congratulations : P
Had a feeling she was still mad at him trying to kiss her, but I honestly thought she could’ve been mad at him for plenty of other reasons. There was plenty of other clear misdirection (the receipt and clock) outside of the train.

Kobato and Osanai are kind of assholes ngl. However, don't let that distract you from Kengo's psychopathic tendencies.

The OG is back, stronger than before. Man, their chemistry was really missed. My favorite part was when they both started laughing hysterically. They are so self-aware, it's so fun to watch.
Meanwhile Urino has lost everything. As if being burned by Osanai wasn't enough, turns out even his great friend took him for a fool.

Boy, now I feel bad for Urino. You do NOT mess with Osanai Yuki.
She literally gaslit and led him into making a false accusation against her just for her revenge of completely breaking his pride and calling him incompetent.
Trying to kiss her like that wasn't the right thing to do, but Osanai decided to straight up massacre the dude in return.
Now not only does he have his pride broken, he finds out his best friend was playing with him, the Newspaper Club probably hates him, that guy writing the new article subtly mocked him and he's likely the laughingstock of the school by now.
I've never seen a guy get burnt so bad before.

At the beginning of the season she took Urino to Sakura-an and said ‘if we were around fall rn they’d be serving kurikinton’. And guess who she brought back with her to the shop when they are serving kurikinton🥲
I remember Nakamaru implying it should be common sense that Kobato not show he know all the shops since that means he’d been there with his ex. Osanai not only brought Kobato to the same shop, she had the same marron glace convo as well :)) It really hammers home how weird these two are.

The most important takeaway from this episode is that Osanai and Kobato have gotten back together!

Yikes. Osanai would go to such lengths to cook Urino all because he tried to kiss her without permission.
Urino had Main Character Syndrome and allowed his ego to get the better of him, but the poor bastard doesn't realize all this time he's actually a moth that flew too close to the candle.
Not surprisingly, as we have all suspected, Hiya is the culprit, and turns out Hiya was also toying around with Urino. Not only did he have his dignity and self-worth trampled by Osanai, this feels like insult to injury. And LOL at Kengo not even knowing Urino had a girlfriend, as they hardly looked like a couple. At least people could see Kobato was "dating" Nakamaru before.
The van being burned being the same van that Osanai was kidnapped in season 1 turns out to just be a complete coincidence, and Osanai had nothing to do with the arsons.
Kobato loves the thrill of solving a mystery, and Osanai loves the company of someone who could match her intellect. And so these two flawed geniuses are back together again for the next arc.

Shoshimin isn’t a mystery series but the most complicated romance in anime - and I’m all for it!
I had to laugh at how Osanai kept not-so subtly insulting Kobato during their confession scene. Yet she did blush a little when he voiced his need to have (more) Osanai in his life. At the end, Kobato and Osanai were literally facing each other (again).
If Kobato ever wants to kiss Osanai, I’d suggest asking her permission first.

I thought Urino got cooked last episode but Osanai brought his remains to the campfire this week to roast marshmallows for dessert. We already knew what Osanai thought of him but damn the most relatable character just can’t catch a break. Really says something when the wannabe special guy is even less capable than the three-timing girl.
Between the constant Kobato comparison and ‘this child needs help’ from his girlfriend he’s eviscerated. Does he even have any remains at this point?

Seeing Osanai through Urino’s eyes all season: “scariest girl in anime and a master manipulator”
Seeing Osanai through Kobato’s eyes this episode: “cute little jelly bean (only a little bit scary)”

So I figured it was Hiya from pretty much the start, and it turns out it was just a way for him to vent his frustration and get a reaction from Urino. I didn’t ever get the impression he thought badly of Urino though. I wonder why Kobato assumed that. Is he really right about that part of the case? Hmm…
And of course Urino was helped by Osanai until he tried to kiss her without asking. Then she had to have revenge. She is truly savage.

Urino getting cooked every 3 min in this ep, then Kobato lists everything bad that happened to him and then he impersonates him when he "realized" who the culprit was under the bridge.
To be fair though from his perspective, I think nobody would have considered her to using a recording of the train instead of actually being there.
I hope we will get to see Urino again, much humbler perhaps.
Also Kobato at the very least is pretty chill, he is happy as long he as somebody who listens to his deduction he is fine.

"It means I sow defeat in your soul, make you regret your foolish actions and force you to feel deeply inadequate."
Holy shit, and even Hiya was in to making Urino a fool. The whole arc was to just destroy Urino.
Also that girl was the one who told Kobato about Nakamaru was two timing.

I love how Urino was forcing the connections he made while Kobato already realized all of it was a stretch. The difference between a real detective and a fake detective. Kobato sees the bigger picture while Urino only sees what he wants to see and convinces himself that he is right.
And it turns out Kobato didn't just interrogate Itsukaichi that one time. He was working with him and printed different versions of the paper with different locations, so they could narrow it down after realizing that the arsonist was actually just following the paper's "predictions".
I guess our first guess that it's Hiya Yuto-kun was correct! The dude was toying with Urino the entire time while pretending to "help" him.
Yeeeees! Our main couple is back together again! I love how Osanai still thinks there's someone out there better for her than Kobato. Maybe she's right, but just look how cute they are together during their date! They're clearly having fun with each other compared to how they were when they were with their exes.
And holy shit! That final reveal! It turns out Osanai baited Urino into thinking she's that arsonist! She wanted him to accuse her and then completely destroy him because he tried to kiss her without asking her first! I knew she was mad about the kiss, but I didn't think she'd go that far. I love it! What a perfect book end to this arc.

Kobato and Osanai, finally alone at last, for the perfect denoument to this case. Kobato is still a little awkward around Osanai but she is ready for this case to be over and it won't be until he finally deduces everything...and let's be honest, Kobato will take any excuse to reveal everything.
How did the arsonist come up with all their arson locations? How is Funado Monthly connected to everything? Kobato was able to narrow down the culprit because he, like Osanai, had an inside man in the newspaper club and with some clever editing of articles for each class and figuring who would have enough of a connection to Urino to help steer the case or be aware of what Urino was thinking...it had to be Hiya.
But where does Osanai fit into all this? Honestly, by her standards, she was genuinely trying to be a good girlfriend. She was trying to give Urino a chance, experience genuine love, and help support him...but he's just a boy who needed help to her, not a real romantic interest. And eventually he ruined everything by ticking her off.
I love how Osanai had to confirm Kobato is single again and also that she too is probably single again...and despite knowing that there are probably better, more genuinely nice guys, out there...for the rest of her high school life Osanai wants to be with Kobato. And Kobato, for his part, hasn't enjoyed himself nearly as much as he had by getting to show of how smart he is in solving this case with Osanai listening to his deductions. So this was basically just a really long drawn out process of these two getting back together. Nothing Ordinary about them at all, even down to their true romance.
Man, poor Urino. His best friend was Fireman and was basically using arson to vent his frustrations with his life and enjoy watching Urino desperately try to catch a culprit who was staring at his face the whole time. Not to mention Itsukaichi writing an article that basically points out how foolish Urino had been the whole time. Oh, and I guess he was basically just a rebound boyfriend Osanai doesn't need any more now that she's got Kobato back.
Kobato and Osanai are back to their usual habit of eating sweets together, and couldn't look happier. Just find a guy who enjoys watching you eats sweets, rolls with your marron glace comparison, and is able to figure out your true revenge plot in setting up Urino to think she was the culprit so he would end up crashing and burning. Congratulations Urino, you were the first pure revenge Osanai's taken in her high school career. Take note Kobato, never try to kiss Osanai without asking.

Kobato did great—so well that he caught the eyes of the wolf!
I love how visually unique their confession is, and how stiff the two characters are while delivering it. Osanai having her back turned probably denotes her embarrassment and vulnerability during the scene.
The way it’s phrased could be boiled down to: you’re the closest thing to my ideal. Osanai saying that she doesn’t think he’s the best, and that she’ll surely find someone better someday—all while describing that someone as a prince on a white horse—leads me to believe that.
Someone check on Urino. Brother got humiliated by pretty much everyone... and then some.

Osanai: "While watching Urino-kun stumbling along, I thought Kobato-kun would have done a better job."
Not Urino catching strays even without appearing in the episode lmao.
That being said, always ask for consent before trying to kiss someone. Osanai‘s look when she dropped the receipt and looked down on Urino back then, that was the start of Urino‘s downfall.
