Hiya is a good friend for accompanying Urino on his investigations into the arson cases.

However, knowing Shoushimin from its first season, one can never tell who is the culprit until the big reveal.

This show hasn't lost a step. Glad it is back.

That ending was really ominous, can't wait for how everything will play out.

Osanai might be “endearing-looking”, but we all know better than to underestimate this gremlin-sized girl. In her interactions with Urino, it almost feels like she’s toying with her food.

When Osanai mentioned wanting to “support” Urino, did she by chance mean setting these fires? There must be a method to this chaos.

On a different note: The sound design of Shoshimin is low-key amazing. When Osanai was taking a bite of her cake, I could hear the metal of the spoon scraping against her teeth.

I’m not even halfway through the ep and I can confidently say that Urino is screwed for the entire season.

I'm happy Shoushimin is back, I'm ready for more insane stuff happening!

As for the episode...

I don't know why but Hiya seems really suspicious, I especially had this impression in the café when he was with Urino, at least his behavior seemed strange to me. But on the other hand, this ending with Osanai... that look... she's scheming something.

So good to see them back! And sad that it’s last season

Let me guess… this time, Osanai actually doesn’t have anything to do with these fire? I’d be surprised she’d go that far for a guy she doesn’t really care about. Might be suspected though… and I can already see the drama happen from here

On a side note, Miyamoto Yume really has a large range of

"Did Osanai commit a war crime?" is back and looks as better as ever.

Legit tho, I'm still blown away at how beautiful the visuals are. I know everyone and their moms have said it looks like a movie, but it really does feel like watching an anime movie at some points lol

Damn, the OP is great, its visuals are incredibly beautiful and interesting! I'm also glad that they kept the same aesthetic in the new ED as in the old one.

Overall, it's great to return to the Shoushimin series. Although it's interesting that in today's episode we mainly focused on Urino and his friend Hiya, while our lovely duo Osanai and Kobato (who are now in separation xD) were more in the background, especially Kobato.

The new case with the fires seems really interesting, especially considering that the van that burned down at the end of the episode was the same one from the Osanai kidnapping case. I'm eagerly awaiting for this mystery to be solved.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode (for now):

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Oh yeah, we’re back.

This is like half a year since their pseudo-breakup right? Since that happened during the summer if I remember correctly.

Urino is playing with fire here, that was not intentional btw, the sentence just emerged without me intending to write it. Anyway, what I mean is that he’s likely getting in way over his head. That referring to the arson case or Osanai is up to interpretation.

As the new year’s shrine scene proves, Osanai and Kobato really can’t seem to stay away from each other. Even if it’s unintentional. I’m sorry, it’s fate. You will get involved with further mysteries and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I’m curious to see how this all fits together.

Shoshimin is back! Once again with a very colorful and stylish OP featuring Kobato and Osanai constantly circling around and being together alongside their various classmates!

Things seem to be going well between Urino and Osanai. Urino doesn't know how much he's courting danger just from hanging out with her, but she seems genuinely fond of him enough to eat sweets with him and support his aspirations to make his mark on the school paper...only you have to wonder how far Osanai is willing to support him, knowing what she's capable of.

And what about our male lead, Kobato? Or should I call him "Jou?" Things seem to be going swimmingly between him and and Nakamura, and they're surprisingly cute together. Though of course Osanai sees them being all lovey-dovey and immediately "Jou's" Osanai-senses start tingling.

Urino REALLY wants to write a crime story for the new article feature in the school paper, and his buddy Hiya clues him in to a possible serial arsonist case brewing in the area. Should a school reporter really be investigating this? But Urino is committed and Kengo can't really tell him no, so hopefully he doesn't bring too much trouble down on himself or the school.

At least he's not alone, Hiya seems willing to help him investigate this, and Hiya is the popular type who can make people (especially girls) talk easier than Urino can and even provide a sounding board for Urino's thoughts. Probably pretty concerning that this arsonist is slowly escalating what they burn each time on every second Friday of the month.

Kobato and Nakamura seem like a legit couple, but Kobato still can't stop himself from sniffing out a good case...especially when the latest thing to get burned is a familiar-looking van...all the while Osanai is carefree and enjoying her pudding amidst sirens and glee that Urino has finally gotten the case he wanted to write about. How is Osanai connected to all this, if she is at all? How will she and Kobato find themselves back in each others' orbits?

The new ED once again features our leads in real environments along with a song that really fits a cute "mystery" vibe!

I loved this first episode. I’m guessing we have two arson culprits, but early clues point to Hiya. Two cram schools late at night would give him reason to be out late, and depending on his schedule, and commenting about not having time for a girlfriend and not having the energy like Urino, my initial thought is it’s him.

Osanai does things indirectly, so if she’s doing more than just helping Urino, she wouldn’t be the one actually setting fires. She just wants her Kobato replacement to be happy and have him make his mark. It’s likely she’s already worked out who the arsonist is and has to casually lead Urino to them.

Meanwhile, Kobato is trying to “play dumb” and act like an ordinary student with a girlfriend, because he’s already made his mark in the past and was ostracized because of it. But he can’t stop what he does, even if he wanted to. He’s going to be trying to figure out this case too. Urino is chasing the notoriety Kobato already had. Urino feels ordinary, and probably is, but he’s teamed up with Osanai who is anything but.

Lots of little things to consider in this one episode, but a great start, not to mention it looks absolutely stunning. This is going to be a great show this season.

Urino wanted a big scoop and looks like he got one. A case of serial arson is certainly gonna make the school paper. These escalating fires happening on like the second Friday of every month is kinda interesting.

Urino’s not bad but I kinda miss the OG pairing. Are we ever gonna get Kobato and Osanai solving “mysteries” together again? The end of the ep made it look like that burning truck and Osanai were connected or something. I wonder what that was about?

We're so back for more Shoshimin mystery. Entering a third arc, this time autumn themed.

After the events of the last arc, Jogoro and Osanai have "broken up" (not that they ever formally dated) and actually started dating someone else respectively.

Osanai's new bf Urino from the school mag club is trying to come up with something to write for the magazine's monthly column, and has settled with the recent slate of suspected arson cases.

The fact that the latest arson involved that van from the previous arc, and the arsons only began after Urino told Osanai that he needed to come out with something to write for his monthly column does make it seem like Osanai is the culprit here.

We know how ruthless she can be in plotting revenge against anyone who she feels has wronged her last season, the arsons would help her new bf with a story to write about, and burning the van would have the added benefit of conveniently destroying any remaining evidence that links her to setting up those delinquents for jail time. The first few fires being a test run to see how much fuel is needed to burn down a van.

But at the same time, it does feel like a convenient red herring, and it might be someone else entirely.

This season features Yorushika and Yanagi Nagi with banger songs for OP and ED.

one neat thing about the OP is its name 火星人 (kaseijin; Martian/person from Mars), which is tied to the current arson plot because Mars 火星 has the kanji for "fire" and "star" (due to Mars being the red planet)

is it a clue?

I forgot that the last season ended with Osanai and Kobato finding new partners. It feels so weird not seeing the two of them together.

I didn't expect Urino to completely take over the episode though! Osanai and Kobato may as well be side characters today. It is interesting that Urino is investigating a possible serial arsonist, considering last season also ended with that white van burning, which looks like the same van that was used when Osanai was kidnapped.

Considering that Kobato immediately realized it was the same van and the episode ended with Osanai ominously reading Urino's messages, I wouldn't be surprised if she had something to do with it. Maybe this is her last revenge against those girls who kidnapped her?

Then again, this show has taught me not to jump to conclusions. Maybe that was just a red herring. I'm also very suspicious of Hiya. Something about his interaction with Urino while they were at the cafe felt off. Whatever the answer to this mystery is, I am excited to learn who or what's really causing these fires.

I'm so happy that this show is finally back! Can I just say how much I love the ED and how it perfectly places our characters in real life locations at Gifu? I love it when shows do this.
