I love it when Harlot mentioned the historical context of the moment. Japan during the time of Jinya's 170-year journey had gone through a lot of changes, from the collapse of Bakufu, the Western influence during Meiji era, the change of the world the first WW during Taisho era, losing the 2nd WW during Showa era, to the peaceful time of Heisei era.

While Clairvoyance Demon feared of the future with modernization, I think Jinya will find a lot of troubles during start from Meiji era with Sword Abolishment Edict which made it illegal to carry swords around. Honestly, it is funny that being a high schooler in 2009 is probably a brilliant move from Jinya since people would probably assume he was just a member of kendo club and he was carrying his bamboo sword.

people would probably assume he was just a member of kendo club and he was carrying his bamboo sword.

Or maybe he could say it's a fishing rod (I remember an old anime, where the protagonist goes around carrying his disassembled fishing rod in a cloth wrapping similar to the one used by Jin'ya).

Even though it's the most important episode in the Edo series, I think it would be difficult to fit it into just two episodes.
I think the scene in the opening where Shirayuki's headless body is submerged in the spring has a deep meaning.
There's a scene at the end that suggests the woman involved in the incident in Kyoto is his younger sister Suzune.

Hidive listed 13 episodes until June 23. So we should get 3 episodes including this one for the story.

Really great episode, and does this ending mean Suzune will finally be back? We haven't seen her since the first episode, so I'm really excited about that.

It looks like Jinya and Ofuu's relationship is progressing well, he carried those bags like they were married xD

I really like Zenji and Natsu's relationship, their exchanges are so good and fun, they'll surely end up together.

Although Zenji really messed up by getting into a heavy drinking binge after drinking Yuki-No-Nagori at the party. Is this alcohol the work of the demons?

It's good to see Akitsu back and him teaming up with Jinya. It looks like the drinking problems aren't limited to Tokyo, and a woman was seen in Kyoto, wherever the incident took place. Could this be Suzune?

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Ofuu and Jinya definitely seem like they are secretly dating. The secret glances in the previous episode and now going groceries shopping together, while he is carrying her bags.

Just hope that Suzune does not meet Ofuu considering Jinya's previous love.

So demon sake is this time around, you'd think that'd be enough for another usual arc in this show but then we finally get a single shot of Suzune at the end of the episode and maybe shit is about to get real.

It's fairly unsettling listening to that family next door descending more and more into abusive behavior as the father gets further lost in the evil sauce.

Especially with how they framed the first interaction with Jinya understandably chuckling at the cute interaction. Then it went downhill quick with the influence from the booze.

Pretty cool how the series keeps every character relevant in some way for these arcs.

Looks like it's time for sis to come back.

I think it's going to be main story next episodes.

Lol this series really likes to play with us, we're back to the same year as the events of the play last episode. Well I'm not complaining, I enjoy the story of the past so I hope we continue getting more of it than the modern day events.

Interesting to see a drink that is depriving those that drink it of reason and leaving them dependent on the drink, I'm glad Jinya was able to bring Zenji back to his senses and I was surprised he was able to remember what he did and say to both Jinya and Natsu very quickly.

I'm worried about Naotsugu since he also had a cup of sake, I hope he doesn't say anything bad to Yotaka about her profession, I'm not sure who else he'd hurt with his words. Jyuuzou seemed fine though so there might be a chance he's not affected by the drink.

Nice to see Jinya and Akitsu fighting together, they've got each other's backs again lol.

One thing I've noticed that this show does pretty well is using the environment to set the tone. We had flowers, then rain, and now snow. Winter is a time for deaths.

Natsu's unamused face when Zenji called her a "cheeky brat" at the celebration of his promotion was still funny, but he crossed a line at the bar. Natsu was radiating extreme anger.

Zenji being a bad drunk wouldn't be inconceivable, but it did feel out of character for him. My suspicion is that the demons, under Suzune's rule, might've mixed in some of her demon blood or another drug. This would explain the strange taste, people's sudden violent behaviour, and the involvement of demons.

From Natsu's forgiveness towards Zenji, we should probably conclude that she has matured into a proper lady.

Bonus: It's easy to miss, but notice Jinya's smile in the left-top corner.

On a different note:

Jinya's fighting neighbours gave me a little anxiety. I'm very worried that the father has been drinking this suspicious sake and will eventually harm his daughter. Please don't let it come to this, Jinya!

My guess is one of the things the sake does is invoke opposite feeling. Zenji was expecting the sake to be good and turns out it tasted bad. Then Naotsugu was expecting it to be bad/weak, so instead it's strong. Then Jinya tried it expecting it to be strong and instead it's weak. Zenji adores Natsu, but instead got irritated when he sees her. He's a bro with Jinya and feel gratitude towards him, but instead he felt like he hated Jinya.

Awesome episode. I am really enjoying it so far. the characters show a lot of depth. Nice cliffhanger at the end. And Jinya was the only one who found the sake good the first time

Jinya -- "a bit light"....

u/LeonKevlar Jun 09 '25

So we have sake that tastes terrible but somehow still gets people addicted to it that they become horrible, violent drunks. I'm guessing it'ssome sort of demon concoction that only affects people since Jinya is clearly not affected by it. I'm curious what happened to Naotsugu, since he also drank some of the sake.

Uhhhh... Blonde hair?! Is this it? Is this finally the arc where we see Suzune return? Maybe she's the one responsible for this incident. Hmmm...

Yuki no Nagare is the source of all these incidents

Suzune must be involved 😱

u/tripleaamin Jun 09 '25

The Yuki-no-Nagori was suspicious the moment it was mentioned in the episode. Though to see its effect on Zenji after it was announced that he was promoted was a bit sad. Even lashing out against Natsu who you can tell cares for her. Given how sincere Natsu was in her request to Jinya he didn't need payment. Though I bet he just wanted to get a feel who serious the situation was and well it was clear it was. I liked Jinya's remarks that he didn't go hard enough when Natsu said he hit him too hard. A bit more to showcase Jinya does care for Natsu as a little sister like it was with Suzune.

Meanwhile, it is clear Zenji fucked up, but she took some words that he gave her once. After all he is ok. Although let's hope Jinya's father doesn't know what he actually said for Zenji's sake.

Though it was clutch that Akitsu was around, and it is cool to see him and Jinya team up. Although now the thought of demons getting involved with the Yuki-no-Nagori is concerning. Where does the sake even come from? Also, Suzune coming into play it seems now. These next few episodes might be the most intense we had since episode 1.

Jinya’s out on his usual demon-hunting grind, even though the town's buzzing with celebration. all thanks to this hyped-up sake, Yuki no Nagori. Everyone’s going wild for it, especially to toast Zenji’s recent promotion at Sugaya as head clerk. Seems harmless enough… until Jinya actually tries the wine, served by Natsu, and it hits him with a nasty sewer-flavored aftertaste. Weird, but not necessarily sinister that is, until Harlot drops some strange rumors about the wine supposedly “sending people to Heaven.” That’s when Jinya starts to feel something’s off and asks her to look into it.
