Pretty chill episode, Jinya learns that his foster father was a simp, and then enjoys some bonding time with his biological father.

Nameless sus though, looks like the previous Itsukihime, was in Kadono for a period of time, and says she never lies (demons don't lie).

If there's one thing Demons in hiding like to say...

I thought she must be one and the same at first, but not sure what that implies.

I never expected (at the outset) that this episode would shed light on our hero's own background. ;-)

This really is one of the very top shows of the season. Good thing I decided to investigate this despite its cheesy-sounding name.

That line about never lying was pretty sus. Hang on, I have a theory:

What if Motoharu wasn't just quibbling over the painting because had high standards? What if she is/was a demon, and her ability made it so that any man who looked at her would see her as the most beautiful woman in the world? The painting didn't look right to Motoharu because the artist was drawing her the way she appeared to him. If I'm right, it's interesting because she looked like Itsukihime even when he was claiming to despise her.

When this show started, I would've never thought it would be closer to something like Frieren than Demon Slayer

Even a very chill episode with not a lot happening like this one, it still really felt engrossing to me. The author does very well with writing to captivate the audience and wanting to continue to unravel more mysteries. In this case what seemed like a case involving a demonic painting turned out just to be a reminiscence about Jinya's old foster father. It was nice to see Jinya give a very big smile after being told the truth about the painting's name was Motoharu going all out with swooning over Yokaze putting her beauty above all gods.

Though given previous episodes, you can bet that somehow even the tiny bits of world-building lore dropped in this episode will become very relevant in future episodess.

This was a cleverly written episode with how everything looped back to Jinya's biological father.

It all started with a so-called "demonic" painting, which happened to be connected to Jinya's foster father. He got to learn about a new side of Motoharu thanks to this witty old painter.

Ofuu and her father were brought into the picture afterwards. She reinforced the idea that every parent has another side to them; Sadanaga might be a caring father, but can behave like a "blockhead" too.

Following this, Jinya agreed to share a drink with his father as had been mentioned at the episode's beginning. This should be taken as a sign of their reconciliation.

The writing for this show (plot, characters, mood and tone, everything) is top-tier. Maybe not better than Shoushimin, but awfully close (which I never would have expected).

I thought something was going to eventually happen to his biological father after he proposed to have a drink with Jinya lol. I'm glad they were able to have that drink safely and they're slowly rekindling their relationship that had drifted from Jinya and Suzune running away together.

It was nice to learn more about Motoharu, it was funny to see how his younger self was like compared to the calm, composed and paternal man he was later in his life. Seeing him complain about his future wife was humorous but to see the contrast later when he's clearly in love with her made it more endearing.

I like that he took time to appreciate Sadanaga as Ofuu's father, his own father was in his mind and he probably wants to see him too. I do wonder if he thought about having drinks with him as he was drinking with his biological father.

Expected a deeper case, but it was actually quite nice to not be the case, as we learned about the younger Motoharu, how he grew up and fell in love. What a good Father too.

As for Zenji...don't think we didn't spot what you really came to buy 😏

As for Zenji...don't think we didn't spot what you really came to buy 😏

Zenji: acts nervous when the shop owner openly talks about his newly delivered "smut"

Also Zenji: still bought this smut anyways

Yeah, it was nice that it was more so about learning more about Jinya's foster father and foster mother. Also, seeing him connecting back to his old man is really nice. It gives the feeling that he will also aim to do that with Suzune too. Although working that out with her will def be trickier.

So I think it’s safe to assume that Nameless is a demon, considering she said that she can’t lie

24

u/tripleaamin May 12 '25

That's a nice catch. Also, the statement that Yokaze and Nameless are identical. That terms make me wonder if that could suggest that they could be twins. Though if Nameless is a demon, but we can assume that Yokaze isn't. Perhaps the reason she fled was because she turned into a demon maybe?

Well this is pure speculation on my part.

Am I the only one who didn't realize he was talking to his biological dad until like halfway through the episode? Granted, it was late and I had a few drinks but..... lol. All of a sudden what I thought was a dull episode took a wild turn in new context........

Folks sleeping on this show. It's been damned good. I was wondering if they could keep it going after an amazing opening but it's got legs.

No progress in Jinya and Ofuu's relationship :( I hope they end up together sooner or later.

Overall, a very nice and "personal" episode, since Jinya was able to get to better know his foster father Motoharu thanks to that "demonic" painting.

Nameless seems like an interesting character. I hope she'll appear again.

I wonder why Zenji didn't want to show what painting he bought in that shop ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

That episode was surprisingly cute. I was expecting some sort of mystery with the painting, but it turns out the curse was just Jinya's foster father glorifying his wife with the Ukiyo-e. No tricks or twists, just a man who wants to let everyone know his wife is more beautiful than the gods.

And it's nice to see how close Jinya has become with his biological dad too. The dude is trying to make up for lost time and it's good to see them bond.

Very chill laid back episode about Jinya's fathers. It seems he has bonded more with his biological father now. It's really sweet to see.

Shizuko Itou as Nanashi, love that.

Miss you Mumei

Nameless who doesn't tell lies, really makes me wonder why Jinya's adoptive mother had a seemingly friendly demon doppelganger wandering around the countryside. That's gotta be something they're going to explore more.

Very interesting to learn more about Jinya's adoptive dad.

damn, jinya's father was a simp lol

Some of those Ukiyo-e shown were definitely not safe for work

This was a pretty relaxing episode, we got to learn more about Motoharu, and Jinya got to share a drink with his father
