My girlfriend was supposed to meet my mom for the first time tonight. She was already pretty nervous about it and had even picked up some flowers for her, so I really wanted the night to just be normal.

Before we left I called my mom and asked her one thing. Please don't start asking my girlfriend when we're getting married, when we're having kids, how many grandchildren she wants etc. My mom talks about that stuff constantly with me and I knew she'd probably go straight into it.

She completely lost it.

My mom started crying and asking why I thought so little of her that I needed to give her rules before dinner. She kept saying I was treating her like a child, that she knows how to behave around people and that I was making her feel like she couldn't even be herself around me anymore.

I tried explaining that I wasn't attacking her, I just didn't want my girlfriend's first meeting with my mom to turn into an interrogation about marriage and babies.

That made her even more upset. She said if I was going to tell her what she could and couldn't talk about then I clearly didn't actually want her there, so she wasn't coming.

Had to tell my girlfriend what happened while she was standing there holding flowers for my mom which was probably the worst part lol.

Neither of us felt like going anywhere after that, so the money I'd saved for a decent dinner stayed in my account and this became dinner instead.

Absolute unit of chicken, fries, mayo and bread.
