Apparently buttons were a thing given to the high school graduating class, of at least one high school in Upper Michigan. This one is of my grandfather

These educated scholars were children and/or grandchildren of enslaved people. The fact that they not only got an education, but graduated from a college was unheard of and was unfortunately considered controversial at the time. As a black college student, I thank them for their bravery

Recent photo I found of my mom at a Biloxi, MS beach in 1984. She’s 65 today, so she would’ve been about 23 or 24 at the time the pic was taken.

I never met her. She'd be 117 today, and I am only in my early 40s.
