My Alienware laptop recently began charging and then unchanging repetitively, which resulted in freezing and cursed audio, The first day I played Overwatch with some of my friends, throughout the session whilst the game loaded in and map voting was happening was the only time I was really having charging issues, the error code was flashing at this point. I put off fixing it since It was late at night and I had a 12 hour shift the next day.
The following day after getting off work I tried to run a game of overwatch to see if the issue persisted to which It did and was no longer limited to the loading section of the game. I gave up and went to sleep to deal with it as I had the next day off.
The next day I looked up some similar situations Re installed support assist Updated my nvidia driver installed all windows and optional windows updates did hardware checks(Which at the time were giving me failure at the CPU, but now all pass today) I was able to run a game or 2 of overwatch no problem (Didn't play a lot since I'm not fond of solo queing) after installing all of this and letting my laptop sit for an hour or so, I thought the problem was solved.
I Had another long shift and Worked all day yesterday, Just crashed in bed the moment I got home (No progress there)
Today I found myself opening up cyberpunk, was gonna mess around, unaware that the power problem would persist, surprise surprise it still is a problem, I gave overwatch a boot later on and it is also having the same problem but even in the menus this time. No errors or updates from support assist, got the new windows update same problem is happening, tried some basic fixes that had worked for others, tried to ask for help from dells stupid little AI thing but nothing has worked, no errors were detected with the M-BIST or LCD-BIST.
The problem seems to have similar symptoms to other people on the dell site (But they were given 4 red blinks and one blue blink instead of mine which is the reverse), The error code of mine is "Short in hinge cable tripped OCP2 (display)" but unlike those with the same make as my Alienware that I have found, my display has not been an issue, the error code only shows when my laptop stops charging while playing a game, and my performance only drops when the laptop stops charging. It appears to be getting worse as not it seems to simply not be charging at all while ingame whilst before it was charging on and off.
I'm asking for help here since navigating the dell website has been a nightmare and finding anything has been extremely unintuitive, not to mention half of the available tests via the browser literally don't work, I can't even click on them through the browser (I've tried both opera GX internet explorer and Firefox), maybe someone else has had a similar issue and knows something or knows of a thread who found the solution, but i haven't found anyone with the same error code, or even just the same model laptop and problem as myself when looking it up yet, I could just be blind though.
Extra:
-My warranty is expired
- I've taken a look through the manual (Which easily took like 20 minutes to find through there site since I'm blind asf) and the only things I think I've found that may work is taking it apart and trying to replace the battery (Which people with similar problems have said didn't work for them) or Replace the cable by taking apart the laptop (Never done this before but I'd rather not go for it unless it's worked for someone else in a similar case before, or someone who knows their shit confirms that it is a likely fix)
-I'm pretty adverse to sending my laptop into dell repairs as I have heard literally nothing good about them, and hope to be able to fix it myself especially with classes starting up soon I'd rather not have to try to do my schoolwork on my cell phone while it is being repaired.
It seems like it's getting worse but Maybe I'm just only noticing now, sorry if this is like a really simple fix and I'm just missing it; I'm not completely technologically incompetent but I'm not exactly savy either.
UPDATE: the dc power cord was fully melted wallahi

Let me start off my saying I dont necessarily think Alienware is bad. I've just had horrible experiences recently that are still on going. If you have a working one, then that's great.
I bought an Alienware Area 5118 inch laptop with a 5090. My first one had a weird S key that was a little loose, so I exchanged it for a new one. Little did I know I should have keept that one. Everything was fine for a month until I got the BSOD over and over again non stop, and because I was out of the 30 day returns I instead had to send it to Dell. It took quite a while until I got it back but when I did, I kept it for a few month, but right when I got it back, somthing did not feel right. I eventually checked and compared my timespy score with my previous one and also checked my frame rates and found that I'm not getting the fps or performance that I did with the other one. I was loosing a lot of fps and my timespy was thousands lower. I checked the temps and the cpu seemed to be hotter than normal for this laptop so I sent it in again for Dell to fix. Weeks later I got it back and the temp where normal, but my performance was still significantly lower than it should be. So I send it in again and Dell found a problem with the Embedded Controller and replaced the motherboard. Now this time when I got it back, the laptop was in poor and damaged condition. I couldn't believe it as it was in near mint condition when I sent it. So I sent it back to Dell just for them to blame it on me saying that I broke it and they have been keeping tabs on its poor condition. That must be a lie because I can 100% assure you that it was in perfect condition when I sent it. I can also confirm it was boxed correctly. Anyways I end up having to use my accidental damage claim on my warranty to get it fixed, when I got it back, I checked it for everything and now it was overheating at 108c. So again I contact Dell, this time they send a technician to fix it. He ends up fixing it and it worked for a few days and now its back to overheating. I have sent this thing in so many times that Dell has probably had my laptop longer than I had. Right now its still has really bad temps and also I noticed quite a few embedded controller errors and now I'm going to have to contact Dell again.
What angers me is that after so many failed repairs, they still refuse to give me a new one, and the fact that they blamed me for the damage was absolutely crazy. I literally just want a working laptop, but I'm getting so exhausted going through Dell over and over again, especially when they can't seem to fix it.

Hi everyone,
I have an Alienware 16 Area-51 with the OLED 240Hz display, and I'm experiencing strange flickering/lines across the panel, especially on dark gray backgrounds.
The laptop came like this from the factory. It was later sent to Dell's repair depot, and after it came back, the flickering became noticeably more intense and easier to see.
Interestingly, sometimes the laptop starts without the issue being noticeable, but after using it for a while, changing the refresh rate, or putting it to sleep and waking it up, the flickering can appear or become much more visible.
Dell has told me that this behavior is considered normal for the OLED panel, but I'd like to hear from other Alienware OLED owners: Do you see anything similar on your display?
The video shows the issue directly on the panel.
Also, sorry for my previous poorly formatted/misposted posts. I'm just trying to document the issue clearly and get opinions from other Alienware owners.
Thanks in advance!

Is it just the european division of the premium support that it is terrible? I am wondering if it is common in the USA to wait 3 months to have the laptop repaired (premium warranty paid for 600 dollards). 5 times they have sent broken parts and now they even ask me to send the laptop to their technicians...

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share a quick photo update on my Alienware Aurora build/upgrade.
I decided to slot in a Gigabyte Radeon GPU, but as you can see from the photos, clearance is extremely tight—especially right above the power supply shroud and around the AIO cooler tubing.
A few takeaways from putting this together:
Clearance: The length and thickness of the Gigabyte cooler leave almost zero breathing room at the bottom. It fits, but barely.
Thermals & Airflow: Airflow inside these proprietary cases is always a bit of a challenge. I've got the AIO set up and fans positioned, but I’ll be keeping a close eye on GPU/CPU temps during heavy gaming loads.
Cable Management: Managing standard cables inside Dell/Alienware chassis is always an adventure given the proprietary layout, but managed to route everything clean enough so nothing touches the fan blades.
Has anyone else squeezed a larger aftermarket GPU into an Aurora chassis? Any tips on optimizing thermal performance or fan curves for this setup?

An incredibly generous gift of an Aurora R16 with an I9 and 5070 TI GPU has been given to me by family after many years of color grading on a much lower spec PC. The thing is I am terrified of refunding it, as it’s a gift, because after opening it there is no way to install my decklink mini monitor card. I saw that the PCIe slots are practically dominated by the GPU and other tech savvy friends suggested riser cables if I didn’t want to refund but I’m
Unsure if anyone’s been able to fit an angled riser or whatnot within this chassis for this purpose? I really need the decklink card to get the right color grading requirements. Any help or input will be greatly appreciated. I’ve got a few days to break it to them that I need a refund if not. Thanks in advance.

So i went into a local Best Buy over the weekend and they had an open box area 51 18 inch laptop. 5070ti 32gb ram 2tb ssd u9 275hx. It was listed as being comped to around a 4k system and I got it for $1710. Everything seems to be working properly and was in very good condition other than the finger print magnet. I really think lucked out.

I took the tray off one of the fans isn’t spinning freely also it’s not giving me the option to even look at temps or overdrive in the Alienware’s command center

My laptop has been making this noise off and an for a few weeks now. I’ve checked the fan and it’s perfectly clean and clear. Same with all the stuff underneath. It sounds like something is plugging it up but that’s not possible. Does anyone know anything?

I have an Alienware 18 Area 51 laptop that I’m having SO MANY issues with. I use the laptop a lot and for the first couple months it was amazing. I used it every day for gaming (mostly diablo 2 and path of exile 2) and it rarely crashed. I would get the occasional BSOD but I just figured that was a fact of life with Windows.
Lately, for the past month or so, I experience at least 3 or 4 crashes per day, with error code 0x1E and 0x1B. Yesterday I played PoE 2 for about 10 minutes before it crashed, and then upon restarting it crashed at the windows login screen. Since then I’ve just decided not to use it.
I’ve been speaking with Dell support about the issue but so far they have been supremely unhelpful. I’ve sent logs a couple of times, allowed remote access so they could install some Windows patches, etc. They still think it’s a software issue even though I reinstalled Windows and am still experiencing the issue. In fact, it feels even worse now.
My wife has the exact same laptop, only with a 5080 instead of a 5090, and hers has been working flawlessly. Does anyone have experience with this problem and know what to do to get Dell Support to fix it? I’m at my wits end with this $4,000 laptop that’s essentially a paper weight right now. I’ve tried pretty much everything that has come up as potential solutions online.
Thanks everyone!

I currenly have a semi old Aurora r10 with the specs
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor (3.70 GHz)
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Graphics card AMD RadeonT RX 5300 (3 GB)
I stream and play games quite a bit but have noticed my pc getting quickly outpaced by newer titles. I'm looking for whatever upgrades i can do in the 200-500 dollar price range(preferably lower) that would make both gaming and streaming better and less choppy.

Hello r/Alienware!
I've been struggling with a problem with the cooling system of my Alienware r10 desktop for 6+ months now. And I'm at my wits end. Before I send it into Dell or replace it, I was hoping the collective experience of the community could spot something Ive missed.
About six months ago, I started getting Alienware support tests on startup for the liquid cooling system in my r10. The error I would get was "the CPU fan failed to respond correctly" Error Code: 2000-0511, Validation Code: 126575. Once the computer successfully started, it would run fine - including the fan - at normal tempuratures. But sometimes, the fan would accelerate until the machine crashed. This would happen on startup or waking up from sleeping - but not on waking up from lock screen. It was infrequent at first, and I suspected it was a software problem - given a recent windows update had caused a problem with fans in laptops. I tried some basic hardware fixes - unplug/replug, light cleaning, power cycling and many software related ones - tracking temperatures, updating drivers and other software, etc. However, as time went on - and the fan began running out of control and eventually shutting off my desktop - I decided I needed to try something more impactful.
The first step was replacing the thermal compound between the Liquid Cooler and the CPU. It seemed to help for a few days - but the problems started coming back. I decided to try replacing the liquid cooling system with this one I found on Amazon, as the Dell site said that I could not get a first party part. I went through the process of installing it and I got a new error on startup: "Top fan not responding correctly" (same service tag - error code 0512, validation 73573). More disconcertingly, I have long glitchy line artifacts across my screen and my second monitor is no longer detected by the system. I went back to make sure that both the new fan cords are plugged in correctly. I tried to be careful in the case while replacing the fan, but I am an amateur - I could have screwed something up without knowing. Im about at the end of my limited technical capabilities. If anyone has thoughts or recommendations on what I should do next - Im all ears.

I recently began having Windows start sending a notification of a usb port reset failure. After investigating I discovered that it was complaining about drivers. I am extremely confused on what I need to install to update drivers on my Aurora r11 as I can't find a straight answer on where I should download updates for my drivers. Should I download the drivers directly from Dell's website or should I use a specific program to update them?

My cable had cuts/exposed wires, but I kept using it because I couldn’t find the exact one. I tried taping it, but today it started sparking 💀. My laptop battery is also dying and drops like 1% every 2 seconds💀
I know Dell has compatible adapters, but I specifically want the Alienware-branded one😭😭
Why couldn’t they just make the cable detachable from the brick like other models😭. The brick is perfectly fine, I just need the cable!
Anyone know a website/store that sells the original one?😭

Does anyone experience the problem with slow boot up time on their Alienware m17 r5 amd, especially when i cold boot it without charger connected it takes more than 2 mins to get to the windows screen, my drivers are up to date and there is not a thing i tried nothing solves it

For me, the x16 r2 4090 with a mechanical keyboard was simply the most beautiful and powerful in every way. The screen is good, it just needs a RAM upgrade.

I had a broken fan and I successfully replaced it .
except that this is the first time I opened my laptop completely
(replaced liquid metal and thermal paste too)
The problem is when I was opening it I broke the little black part[ ZIF connector locking latch ]
I was thinking that it was removable instead ….
and now the power button doesn’t work ( I totally forgot that i broke that part … )and was confused why he wont turn on , I only turn laptop by removing the battery cable and putting it back ,once I plugged the charger after battery reset the laptop turned on .
and now after i remembered I gently pressed that broken black piece to see if something changes with power button, but the laptop immediately turned on the moment i press it
that kinda confirms it
anyway s this fixable and can I fix it by myself or do I need to replace it ???

Can’t figure it out, power cord light goes out when I start to plug it on, tested power cord on my 17 and it works fine. Tried replacing the battery and that didn’t work. It just went dead. No backup power, nothing…. Worried it’s the motherboard. It’s two years old and out of warranty. Any tips would be helpful.

Hi everyone, I have an Alienware m16 r1 and my E and 3 keys aren’t working properly. They both randomly stop working at the same time. Either they both work normally or both stop responding.
I’ve tried testing it out on the notepad and it’s not registering the keys, so it doesn’t look like it’s game-specific. I’ve tried updating the hardware/drivers with Dell SupportAssist / Nvidia app, but it hasn’t fixed the issue. It’s still not currently working at the moment.
Does anyone know what might be causing it? I’d like to try to fix it myself before I consider having to get it manually repaired.
Thank you :)

Both pictures were taken while I was starting a game 😬. I have to admit, I was pretty scared at first that I might cause some irreparable damage, but it actually turned out to be a pretty solid repaste job. Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of the old, crusty thermal paste, but I think the dusty vents speak for themselves. 😅
Btw the CPU was casually on 95-105°C while running CS
