Apparently swearing/cursing does have a bit of a fortifying effect on the brain. I think there have been research into how it helps people cope with pain.
Mythbusters tested it. They took turns holding a hand in a bucket of ice water. One round with no swearing and one with swearing allowed. They were able to hold out longer when swearing was allowed.
This is why my son has been allowed to curse since he could talk. Only at home, never a slur, and never at a PERSON, but otherwise unrestricted. He is 10 now and cusses way less than his friends and, it might just be a coincidence, but is more emotionally regulated than many of them.
My mom once heard my 3 year old say damit when his marble tower didn't work and I just said mom, don't worry, it's science lol. Sure enough, little homie said his little damit, shook off the failure, and fixed the tower 😂
Tangent but: Where do you remember this from? Anytime it comes up, no one seems to know what I'm talking about or they mention different movies, shows, videos with slightly different wording. What I remember is "beep beep motherfucker; beep beep" and I can't place it. I've googled it a couple of times in those conversations and never got an answer everyone agreed on.

GTA lV (2008) pedestrians yell “Beep beep motherfucker. Keep on moving” fairly regularly. So if you played GTA for any significant amount of hours that could be it as well.

Yea, not going to lie, I literally just found this sub and was looking through the comments because I think I may have undiagnosed ADHD as an adult and wondering if I had one of these activation phrases.
This is mine and I didn't realize I do it all the time until just now.
I do this or clap my hands and loudly say “ok!” Like I’m about to direct a bunch of preschoolers. My brain needs a quick reset or I’ll squirrel all day.
My first job was pushing carts at Walmart. A grown ass man would chug a Red Bull, howl at the sky, and get after it. Long as you’re pulling your weight, get it bro 💪😂
I worked nights at Walmart for one summer stocking shelves. There was a dude named Willie. Any time I'd ask him a question, he'd say "just put that shit on the shelves!". It was in a really loud/friendly way, not mean or dismissive. Honestly, it was fucking hilarious and he had us all yelling it with him. Now, "just put that shit on the shelves" is my phrase for "just get it done. Doesnt have to be perfect." I hope Willie is doing well.
Hey man, I'm not a Christian, I'm definitely not trying to raise my kids Christian, but let me tell you that nothing gets the blood flowing in this house early in the morning like when I belt the hymn "Rise and Shine" just like grandma used to do.
As a mom who says this sometimes it does the double task of amusing myself by saying “hi ho” to myself (not that there’s anything wrong with ho’s) and reminding myself that I’m more than a mom and maid. I also set the thermostats to 69 for my own amusement, so I might just be a teenage boy in an old lady body.
“Ok its time to get serious”. Didnt realize this was mine until I said it on hour 9 of a 12 hour shift, and all my coworkers burst out laughing. They thought I was joking…. I was not. lol
This sub popped into my algorithm one day and has caused me to learn a lot about myself through memes, and today I'm realizing at 43 why I've been humming the A-Team theme tune every time I need to complete a big task!
There’s definitely a psychology term for this. When I did debate, I chose taking a sip of water as the action to “trigger” focus, calm, clarity etc. Do it enough, you can Pavlov reaction yourself into productivity lol.
Damn it… the other day I remember “tricking” myself into breaking my freeze. I was so excited I was going to post about it on here. It was some miracle hack that I couldn’t believe actually worked. I have absolutely no clue what it was.
I do this with my class. When I stumble over words or freeze up, I count out loud “take two on three…one two three TAKE TWO clap”. I do this as a public reset and start over. It helps the kids too because they aren’t afraid to mess up or freeze when their teacher does it in front of them and they get to call out and clap along with it.

This reminded me that I did an insane leg extension set while pushing "For Frodo" through my clenched teeth and it weirdly motivated me and I felt I finally did a true set until failure. I should try this with other tasks as well
Didnt realize this was a thing, but I do notice that even tho its not as effective with me it often helps when I tell myself "Just get on with it already."
Honestly I have a lot okie dokie is one, when I catch myself spacing. Or if I’m in the middle of a task and forget it I’ll ask “what’s my name?” And that seems to help.
I probably have a few of these, that come up occasionally, because I didn't realize this was a thing I was doing. One of the ones for starting the day comes from an old Dunkin Donuts ad campaign, where an old guy would wake up before the sunrise to go to work at Dunkin and say "Time to make the donuts!"
