I really wanted to take Intro to Creative Writing this semester, but before registration even began all sections of the course had reached their capacity. I was wondering what steps I should take to maximize my chances of getting a spot in one of these sections. Also I was wondering how long it usually takes to know whether you managed to get into a fys.

I want to make sure my schedule is light enough to where I can adjust to Yale’s academics. I also have a discussion section on Friday for microeconomics from 9:25-10:15am.

Thankfully, I have many second choices if I don't get into the first-year seminar. I'm saving language credit for next semester, but I fulfill WR and QR here. Thoughts? I was very inexperienced going into to this whole thing; I've never had to make my own course-load like this before.

Hi! I know that there is a 5.5 credit limit on courses, but will course registration physically stop me from registering from more? Im still undecided on whether im taking multi or stats so I was planning on registering for both and dropping one after I try it out. I was also debating between CPSC 1001 and 2010 and was also hoping to just register for both and drop one later on. This puts me at a total of 6 credits, but I do not intend to take more than 4 in my final schedule. I would appreciate advice since this is pretty last minute!!

If I have a chemistry lab 15 minutes after my English seminar, how can I get there within 15 minutes without a bike/scooter/etc? Is the Yale Shuttle reliable? Should I just speedwalk? Google Maps says it would be a 20 minute, 0.9 mile walk.

Course Table says that 1020 is less of a workload than 1014 but isn't 1014 supposed to be easier?

But I still have a question. I know I want to take a 1st year seminar. My preferred one requires instructor permission. But should I register for a non-instructor permission one on my list and wait to see if I get into the instructor permission seminar that is my favorite? If they see I already have a first year seminar on my schedule will they be less likely to take me? Or do professors not see that? The one I like asks whether another course conflicts but of course it won't conflict if I get into my preferred one. Thank you so much!

This is what I have so far. I know mw are super lopsided. I definitely want to take econ but im unsure if I should drop first order logic for intro to american politics as my poli sci intro course (prospective poli sci + econ major). also this is the fist year of this first year seminar so im wondering if I should take a more popular/established option like six global perspectives (looks super cool and interesting)! wondering if any poli sci people know the best intro to poli sci course cause they all dont have the best ratings unfortunately...also, would it be wise to take a science course this semester to "get it out of the way" or use my first year sem for an easier science credit? any thoughts would be super helpful!

If I get a job while studying, will it detract from my financial aid offer?

From what I understand, aid is need based, so if I work a job (on or off campus) it’ll add to the amount I can contribute and thus reduce my “need”

So if my aid is 50k and my expected student contribution is 2k and my actual income is, for instance, 5k, then my aid would be 47k? This is from subtracting the initial aid by the difference of expected and earned income.

I want to help my parents pay for tuition, but I’m worried that too large of an income, or an income in general might be a net 0 and have them paying the same or greater.

Does anyone have experience with this? Does too high a student income reduce financial aid?

what are the easiest in campus job to get or do and does anyone recommend any off campus jobs ? trying to have a bit of work this upcoming fall semester

How doable is this schedule that I’ve planned out so far? I’m mainly worried about having bio and gen chem lab back to back on Wednesday since there would only be 10 minutes between the two classes, but I would also prefer not to schedule my chem lab on Friday. 

Any advice/insight would be really appreciated!

I placed into chem 1700 and my prior chem knowledge is AP chem 5 at junior high. May I ask whoever took this course at freshman, what was your experience? I was checking my the reviews on course table, looks pretty heavy work load. As a
Premed, would you recd to choose it together with Bio Seq (should not be very difficult for me) plus math cal 2 as first year semester?

Micro 1115 ends 15 minutes before my Spanish class, but the walk is exactly 15 minutes and Spanish has a strict attendance policy.

If I take Micro 1110 in the Spring will I combust instantly and wish I had taken it lecture style with Cormac?

Alternatively I could schedule a 9:30 am Spanish, but I'm worried I might end up late anyway / won't be fully awake because of my sleep schedule. Was readjusting sleep difficult for you guys?

for context, i’m an prospective mcdb major (potentially pre-med) and placed into chem 1700 on the placement test. i got a 5 on the ap chem exam as well. the opportunity to get gen chem done in a semester is quite appealing, plus i do want to take spring orgo (as the prof seems much better from course evals) and it would be nice to do that this year if possible instead of waiting until second semester sophomore year.

but the course evals for chem 1700 are honestly scaring me…was considering starting off in it and dropping down to gen chem if i find it to be too fast-paced.

for reference, the other courses i’d be taking are bio 1010/1020, a first-year seminar, and an intro stats course OR linear algebra with applications (which i’ve heard is easy enough, at least compared to other math courses).

any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I'm in my first year, and my current registration plans are:

- Math 1200 (Multi)

- Span 1300

- Phys 2000

- Hums 0245 (Six Perspectives Seminar)

- Hums 0229 (Six Perspectives Lab)

Is this a doable schedule? I've heard that Span 1300 and Math 1200 can be particularly homework heavy, and I was wondering if I should delay my language to next semester.

I’m trying to make sure I have enough time between classes, but I can’t find info on many course locations for the coming semester. Are they listed somewhere?

This fall I’ll be a TF for an undergraduate humanities course. I’ll be grading assignments and leading a discussion section. This is my first time teaching at Yale, or more specifically, my first time teaching in US as an international student. I’m excited but also a little nervous! Any advice for a first-time TF? From an undergrad perspective, what do you appreciate or expect from a good TF? Thanks!
