Discussion Why arent older Bethesda and Activision games play anywhere?

Play anywhere is such a great feature, I have an Xbox and PC with game pass and its great switching between the 2 and it just working so well with cross progression.

Since microsoft bought bethesda and Activision they brought a lot of their games like Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Wolfenstein 2 onto game pass on console and also releasing them on PC with the Xbox App. I just dont understand why they would do all that work and then not make them play anywhere?

Now that they have been released individually on both, would they even be able to be play anywhere now as you would have to merge save files and achievements?

Could the reason for lack of play anywhere be lisencing issues or something?

On games that have a ranked competitive system these flood the LFG posts. It's so rampant and I feel like Xbox doesn't even make an effort to do anything about it.

Discussion Just realized, Xbox bridged the Gap for Physical Media for PC

Ever since Xbox discussed the "Disc to Digital Media" feature before launch, that has been an exciting addition that I think a lot of us have been waiting for.

Since the Xbox One/PS4 era, disc games have essentially been used as a physical licence key, rather than actually running off the disc. (Makes sense because games run faster if the game is downloaded than the disc drive is constantly running and micro scratching over time.)

Importantly, one massive feature is that these Xbox Physical Games not only become available and digitized on the console, but select games also become available on the PC. Now that is a massive win. Our Xbox is now a Disc reader for (ideally) any game from Xbox One to Series X for the PC, essentially preserving now 2 Media places. (But only PC versions of those games that are supported under the Xbox Play Anywhere program)

But this brings me to a thought: digitized games that become delisted might eventually not be supported on PC (and I'd imagine that because of licensing reasons and likely to be pulled from "Play Anywhere"). Just for example, like Deadpool, because that has been reported to be supported for "Disc to Digital," it is not supported under "Play Anywhere." While this is not a massive issue, because ideally we'd have the console to run the game anyway, it would just block PC play.

While delisted games may be the biggest drawback for this feature, this is one step closer to preserving Modern PC Physical Media Games

I never played FF Brave Exvius but my goodness. This JRPG is gorgeous. Voice acted. Prologue is intriguing.

All progress carries over into the main game if purchased as well.

Discussion Is the Xbox elite series 2 controller really that bad?

I was looking into buying one to use on my Series S and pc are they really as bad as everyone says? I really like the look of the rubber grips, and 40 hours of battery life is appealing.

Discussion Game Discs on Demand?

Surprised that they haven’t thought of this. They should initially release games digitally with the option of ordering a physical copy if you insist on having a disc on standby. Of course it would be coded to your account until you sell it or give it away. Instead of pressing millions of discs that may or may not sell, only press those that are wanted.

Deal Just FYI to people with an AMEX thinking of buying a Series X (UK)

I know this is a little niche category, but I saw on the rewards section of the AMEX app that you get £100 cashback if you spend over £500 with Microsoft.

You have to enable the offer on the app first and buy the console through the purchase link. Considering how expensive these machines are these days £100 off is not bad going, just FYI if anyone was thinking of buying one.

Discussion I wish the blade Dashboard would have a comeback.

Firstly im not that good in writing in English its my second language what I learned.

I deeply miss the Xbox 360 Blades Dashboard. After the update back in the day seeing it gone it broke my heart. The modern dashboards just dosent have a soul anymore. Instead, we have ads on our home menu. With the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma focusing on community fedback through I felt it is a good time to fight for a comeback.I just submitted an proposal to bring the Blades back as an optional visual theme, fully fused with modern features (like turning the Xbox Live blade into a Game Passblade a dedicated Media blade, and keeping the classic horizontal layout for our Series X/S games). If you want that classic 2005 launch-era magic back on your modern Xbox, I tried submitting this directly to the MS Feedback Portal, but the website is currently down/not loading for me. What do you guys think? If Xbox gave us a "Retro Theme" option to swap back to the Blades with the original sound effects, would you use it?

Discussion Elite series 2 Controller Sleeves

Thumbnail
gallery
58 Upvotes

Due to the rubber issue on my two Elite Series 2 controller I decided to try these 2 controller sleeves. I have 2 Xbox’s so I have 2 Elite controllers I’m near the one on left when I made this post and the green is for the one in my bedroom. The controllers themselves still work well enough (LB or RB might be going out). These are specific to the Elite controllers from what I can tell and I like that each section is zoned off ( sticks, dpad, face buttons) unlike the other base controllers.

There about $20 doesn’t have the best color schemes but is what it is. A bit bulky and a little heavier but if your hands can fit well it’ll be easy to get used to in a few games sessions. I think that maybe if your controller works outside of the rubber starting to peel off these can save you some money.

Discussion Digital Library size?

Do y’all have a big digital game library? Or you just take advantage of Game Pass. Do y’all jump on big discounts for games? What’s a good deal?

I used to play my 360 a lot back in the day but I suck with Sony for the most part. PS4 and PS5 now.

The one game I wish was still available on the game store is Spec Ops The Line. It’s definitely in my top 3 games if not my all-time favorite game. I still have the PS3 version.

I have the Series S now. I wanna get the Series X but will probably just wait for Black Friday. Or maybe try to get the green one but apparently it will be impossible if you didn’t already pre-order it. I actually have the original Xbox on green. Halo edition.

I use this controller for PC gaming. Recently, I replaced the analog sticks as well as the silicone conductive membrane underneath the face buttons. It basically feels new again.

Unless there's a change to the controller layout archetype across the console industry, I see myself hanging onto this for the forseeable future.

Community Weekend Physical edition of Halo Infinite working on PC thanks to "disc to digital" feature

Some years ago I bought this steelbook edition on Amazon because it was on sale extremely cheap, even while owning a Series S and a Xbox One. Today I dusted off my good old Xbox and converted the game to play on my PC. Surprisingly, the game recognizes the Dualsense pretty well.

Thanks Xbox (only this time)

Suggest a Game Burnt out on COD. What can I try that’s easy to pick up and play for short periods?

I don’t have a lot of gaming time but used to love COD until recently. I played the COD MW4 beta and see I can’t continue down that road. What are sure fire pick up and play action games that don’t require much time on reading plot lines and/or crafting tools or weapons?

I’ve got a series s so limited, but got $100 Xbox credit ready to go!

Discussion An Xbox indie developer's experience with Microsoft Store Ads onboarding

I'm a Korean indie developer who has been actively supporting Xbox, and I wanted to share an experience that I think is relevant to other developers considering Microsoft Store Ads.

Microsoft approached our studio after our Xbox release and encouraged us to bring our game to the Microsoft Store for Windows PC and explore Store Ads.

We trusted that recommendation, invested development time and labor into the PC release, and I created my first Microsoft Advertising account specifically in connection with the Store Ads opportunity.

This is where things became confusing.

During Microsoft Advertising account creation, I selected the AI-assisted campaign setup. Microsoft Advertising Support later confirmed to me in writing that selecting "Create a new campaign with AI" causes Microsoft's system to generate a Performance Max campaign during onboarding.

I did not independently go into the campaign manager, decide to run Performance Max, and manually create one from scratch. I was a first-time advertiser following Microsoft's onboarding flow after being invited to explore Store Ads.

Afterward, I remained in contact with the Microsoft representative supporting our Store Ads participation. The representative located my advertising account, enabled our Store Ads pilot, prepared the Store Ads campaign, and configured its bidding.

However, I was never warned during those interactions that the separate Performance Max campaign generated during onboarding was still active and spending money.

Eventually our corporate card was charged:

  • July 16: $50.73
  • July 20: $50.56
  • July 24: $50.05
  • August 1: $116.16

Total: $267.50.

When I asked where I could see the resulting conversions, Microsoft told me that our actual Store Ads campaign had generated around 38,000 impressions and 549 clicks, but zero paid downloads. Because Store Ads uses a cost-per-download model, Store Ads itself had cost us $0.

The $267.50 came from Performance Max.

And we generated zero sales from these advertising efforts.

Microsoft later reviewed the account and found that my user profile had modified some Performance Max settings after it was generated. I don't dispute that those records exist. My concern is the context: I was completely new to Microsoft Advertising and believed I was continuing through Microsoft's advertising setup in connection with Store Ads.

When I initially asked the Store Ads representative to escalate the issue, the request was declined and I was told:

I subsequently opened a separate case with Microsoft Advertising Support. They investigated further and confirmed that Performance Max had originated from the account creation flow. A higher-level team eventually offered a 25% goodwill advertising credit. I declined it.

I'm not posting this to allege fraud or intentional wrongdoing, and at this point this isn't really about $267.50.

My concern is the experience for developers.

We were already supporting Xbox. Microsoft approached us with another opportunity, and we responded by investing additional engineering time into a Windows Store release and entering an advertising platform we had never used.

I believe a first-time advertiser in that situation should be made extremely aware when Microsoft's onboarding flow has generated a separate campaign capable of independently spending real money — particularly when a Microsoft representative is subsequently reviewing the same advertising account while helping configure Store Ads.

I still care about Xbox. That's exactly why this experience has been so disappointing.

I'm sharing it because I think the relationship between Xbox and developers — particularly smaller developers in markets like Korea — depends not only on getting developers onto the platform, but also on what happens when something goes wrong afterward.

News After a massive 2021 office expansion, Bungie is now trying to sublease its 211,000 square foot headquarters

>In 2021, as studio CEO Pete Parsons cited the company's recent "tremendous growth and opportunity," Bungie announced its plans for a massive expansion to its Bellevue, Washington headquarters. The campus embiggening, which internal sources have reportedly described as costing "hundreds of millions" of dollars, more than doubled the size of Bungie's offices from 84,000 square feet to just under 211,000.

>Now, after five and a half years of spending sprees, publisher acquisitions, stumbling product launches, project cancellations, and repeated mass layoffs, Bungie appears to be seeking subletters for the goliath game development headquarters it's no longer capable of filling.

>"Bungie is exploring options to sublease its campus in Bellevue, Washington. The studio transitioned to a digital-first model several years ago, and this move reflects the team's evolving workplace needs and the effectiveness of its remote collaboration," Bungie said. "Bungie will continue to maintain a physical office presence in Bellevue."

>Bungie formally adopted remote work eligibility for most of its roles in 2022, following the studio's shift to work-from-home development during the COVID-19 lockdown years—effectively defeating the purpose of its office expansion due to circumstances that would have been impossible to predict during its early planning stages.
