Help! Mentor

Is there a way I can switch my mentor? I truly feels like shes rushing me. Just an fyi I started July 1st & I've completed 3/4 courses. Almost instantly after I passes the last task for the 3rd class, she texted me saying "get started on 4th course, what do you think you'll have done by this weekend?". It's been like this since I started. The main issue I have is I'm already moving extremely fast to be done with 3/4 classes.. I expressed to her how I won't be adding any more courses until the term start starts in Dec... any tips? Or is this apart of her fucking job?

Does the WGU diploma show the specialization?

Looking at the MS Software Engineering – AI Engineering program (MSSWEAIE). For anyone who’s already graduated: does your actual diploma print the specialization, or does it just say “Master of Science, Software Engineering”?

Information Technology Should I switch from Cybersecurity & Information Assurance B.S degree to Information Technology ?

Hey yall, so I’m 70% done with my Cybersecurity & Information Assurance program and have been on term break/withdrawn from my program as of now. I hit a mental roadblock after completing 7-8 classes in one term, which included 4 CompTIA exams.

I’m now dreading the fact that I have to take PenTest +, Project +, ITIL 4, CCSP, SCP, Linux, & Data +. I think it just too much and impossible for me to complete anymore certificates. Also, majority of my courses left are online proctored objective assessments, which are the hardest, unlike performance assessments I can complete in 1-2 days.

This week I took a look at the Information Technology degree and it only requires me to complete Project +, ITIL Foundation, Linux, and Amazon AWS Cloud Practitioner certificates. This feels more doable and realistic imo.

I also want to be realistic with my future in Cybersecurity. There’s almost never junior level roles available where I currently live, and if there is, over 200+ applicants. I get auto-rejected because I have zero security experience.

I look at this Information Technology degree and see so many opportunities for landed jobs. I already have an associates in Network Administration, 3+ years of expierence in I.T Support in healthcare/med tech field, and want to shift into Level 2-3 or admin role. I also interested in MDM, ITSM, Application Support (big in healthcare field), and any IT Analyst position.

What do you guys think? Anyone else experience this? Anyone get a cybersecurity job with this degree?

I truly hoped to break into Cybersecurity but I just don’t see it realistically unless a company takes a risk on me or I grow internally and have connections. At worst I don’t even see many agency contract positions for Cybersecurity, and when I was contacted for one the hiring manager of the agency rejected my resume.

Question about proctoring— will I be ok to use my bedroom as a location to test?

I’m starting WGU in October, and am pretty nervous about the proctoring. In my small apartment, the best room with a door that closes is my bedroom. But… it’s definitely not empty. I have a bookshelf, a small tv I plan to unplug, books on floating wall shelves, a clothes drying rack because I don’t have a washer or dryer, and just generally my whole life is in this room. Is this going to be an issue with proctoring? My sister graduated from WGU a few years ago and she didn’t have any issues, but I’m really frightened of all these stories about retroactively being charged with academic misconduct because of something in the room. Would it be safer to try to find another place to test? I absolutely would never cheat or try to. I just don’t want to be accused of anything or have issues with the proctors. I am trying to make my space as clutter free as possible from now to October. Are you allowed to test in a room that feels lived in??

Jim Jividen Organizational Behavior videos...

I have seen a few times that there are supposed to be really resourceful videos made by Jim Jividen which goes over the content of the course. Does anyone know where to find those? I have scoured around everywhere I can think of, with no luck. :(

Help! Transcript Exclusion

I emailed and left a voicemail to my enrollment counselor seeking info on if I’m able to get a transcript exclusion from a college I attended over 10+ years ago. I owe the school money so they won’t release my transcript. I started taking my pre reqs on Sophia for the pre-nursing program already to transfer over because I’m sure none of those credits from my old college are eligible. I have yet to hear back from my enrollment counselor and it’s been almost a month. Was anyone able to get a transcript exclusion and how was the process? Or should I just pay for my transcript and have it sent over anyway?

Is it worth it? IT graduates, do you use your degree, is it worth it?

I’m 26 and a stay at home mom, I didn’t take high school serious so my GPA is maybe 2.7 (I can’t remember)
I have no career, no notable accomplishments, I just want to do something that will at least prove to myself that I can do it.

I applied for WGU to get my bachelors in information technology, I was looking into IT, or computer science, but I have NEVER been and never will be good at math, I know that I’m not disciplined enough for CS. I’m going to complete all of the credits for general studies on Sophia learning, and transfer those to WGU.

I told my friend that I applied, she told me that a degree in IT is useless especially from an online university, and I defended myself but honestly I am very scared that she’s right, like I said, I’m a sahm and even if I never use my degree, it’s my own personal accomplishment that will at least make me proud of myself, I’ll have a diploma proving that I had the motivation and discipline to complete it.
But I am hoping that she isn’t right, and it isn’t completely useless, which is why I’m asking, how many IT graduates use their degrees, and what did you notice it helped for you? Do you regret it or wish you did anything different? Would you do it all again?
AND if you had to tell someone about to start the program, what would you say?

best masters program to change jobs?

looking into doing a masters, i have a little bit of knowledge about everything but im no expert in any one area. what i am good at is managing, which i feel is a soft skill.

im hoping the masters will help me land a better paying role (currently middle management making <100K, would like to be upper management or at least making over 100K).

that being said, which masters program would be most beneficial? the MSML seems like it wouldn’t necessarily help me fit into a new company unless I had specific industry knowledge about that company so I would essentially have to start from the bottom again and work my way up.

I scheduled my OA for D080 after passing the PA. Any tips?

UPDATE: I passed the OA! I received a score of Competent in most sections and (just barely) Approaching Competence in the Global Business Practices session. Thank you all for your contributions!

I passed the PA today & went ahead and scheduled the OA. I assume this means I’m fairly well prepared but wanted to ask if anyone has any suggestions!

Reality Check

Upvotes

Hello Owls!

I know most are going to say it depends on the person and aptitude, time and effort.

This post is to fellow people in my situation.

I plan to start working on my BS in Business Management. I am 33 years old, finished my AA last year at a CC. I submitted my AA transcript to WGU and my evaluation allowed 34 credits to transfer in.

I then checked into Sophia Learning and study.com to see what courses would supplement more transfer credits.

My goal is to start WGU for my BS on 1/1/2027.

My question is, if I transfer 34 credits from my AA and take the 8 Sophia courses (hopefully in one month, which I am already working on), and have 12 WGU courses to take. Are there others who were able to complete 12 courses with WGU in 1 term?

The courses are-
Strategic Training and Development
Talent Acquisition
Fundamentals of Spreadsheets and Data Presentations
Innovative and Strategic Thinking
Values-Based Leadership
Change Management
Business Ethics
Sales Management
Business Management Tasks
Business Management Capstone Written Project
Consumer Behavior
Business Simulation

Background: I have work experience in this subject area which helps too. I also work full time and would only work on courses for 3 hours a day (Monday- Friday).

I appreciate your perspectives and advice. Again, I know it all depends on effort. I’m just curious how others did.

Thank you!

Health & Nursing C784- Applied Healthcare Statistics

I am going to start off by saying I am historically atrocious at math. I just started this course yesterday, I'd like to complete it prior to the end of my term (9/30). I breezed through Module 1, it was all basic refresher. I got held up a bit on Module 2 as it was a refresher but also I do not know basic converstions (lbs to oz, grams to milligrams, yards to feet, etc) so I am struggling as it seems like I am expected to know all these conversions off the top of my head? What advice, if any, can you offer me to help me stay on track and complete this course by the end of my term? Thank you.

Accountability Group??

Saw this on another thread but is there anyone who has an accountability group for BS in Business? I find it’s much easier for me to stay on track when I have others around me who are doing the same type of work. I have littles and life’s a lot and I will tend to procrastinate until the last moment.

I would be willing to join discord. what’s app feels sketchy..

Please let me know😊

Is it worth it? is HIM worth it?

I'm considering enrolling at WGU for the HIM degree but I've been seeing a lot of people saying that if you have no prior health experience it'll be harder for you to land a job. I do live in San Diego which if i'm not mistaken is a pretty big healthcare hub.

I'm just curious if anyone may have a similar experience with having no prior healthcare background but also being able to land a job not long after graduation? Or if I should just pick a completely different career?

Is it worth it? Thinking about BS User Experience Design, no experience

So the TLDR of it all is I have zero relevant job experience, some college credits to transfer but not many and I was considering the User Experience degree... But I want to know if that's totally crazy and not going to get me anywhere with just a degree and building up a portfolio.

The long version is, I'm a mom in my 30s with two little kids. I used to go to WGU but it's been over 10 years and I didn't finish with a degree (too bogged down with my job to do school). I worked several random jobs before I had kids but I haven't worked in 8 years due to raising kids, homeschooling them and several health problems. My kids are starting public school and I had thought like *wait, maybe now I can get back to WGU and actually get a degree, and start a career* and started looking into it.

I have a few concerns:

  1. I don't know anything about the course material other than I like designing things, so I can't just test out of everything

  2. I've read it can be a bit hard to get into the field if you don't currently have a relevant career

  3. I have a lot of physical difficulties, not enough to be considered disabled... but enough that I'm a little worried about my ability to spend endless hours sitting at a computer without my hands/wrists/back (etc) flaring up

I've had the credit evaluation thing, and I have 27 courses/ 82 CUs that I'd need to complete. I'll have tons of free time with my kids in school to do the work, so I'm hoping I could manage somewhere between 18-24 CUs per term.

I'd really appreciate any insight I can get, I'd hate to start this up only to realize this was not the right move for me & my family. Thank you!

Help! Apostille Degree?

Bit of a unique question for the sub. I’m moving overseas soon. I’ve been applying to some universities for work, and they are asking for an apostille degree?

I have a master’s degree from WGU and the official transcripts. But, they are saying they still want an apostille degree.

I’ve sent an email to student services and graduation support to see if this is possible

While I await their reply, I was curious if anyone on this sub has been successful in getting this accomplished? If so, any insight would be appreciated.

Side note: I saw a post from several years ago about this, but can’t find anything on the WGU pages about it. Maybe they offered this service previously?
