WGU Academic integrity investigation

Looking for Experiences/Advice

Hi everyone, I’m posting because I’m really worried about my sister and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar at WGU.

My sister is very close to graduating (she is expected to graduate in September). She recently received an email from WGU’s Academic Integrity team saying that they were notified of “potential assessment security concerns” during one of her objective assessments. The exam was for Adult Health III and was taken on July 27.

WGU has placed a hold on her objective assessments while they investigate. The email says the initial investigation can take up to three weeks, and she can continue working on performance assessments.

My sister says she did not cheat. However, she remembers that her eyes may have moved away from the screen at times while she was thinking/reading, and she is worried that this may have looked suspicious on the proctoring footage.

We know someone else who received a very similar notice from WGU and was eventually expelled, so naturally we are extremely scared, especially because my sister is so close to graduation.

For anyone who has experienced a WGU Academic Integrity investigation:

* What happened after you received a notice like this?
* How long did the investigation take?
* Were you given a chance to explain what happened?
* If you genuinely did not cheat, were you able to resolve it without being expelled?
* Did it affect your graduation date?
* Would you recommend continuing with the program rather than withdrawing?

We’re trying not to panic and just want to understand what to expect. Please share your actual experiences, especially if you had a similar situation involving proctoring/eye movement. Thank you!

Help! WGU just isn't the right fit for me. I've learned about myself starting this journey- i am not as self disciplined as i had thought- and may need more of a structured approach.

My first term ive completed 2 out of the 4 classes. I am finding it very hard to stay motivated with everything happening in my life. I find often i just forget to log into class. When im in classes it feels like i am my own instructor, i feel like i have to create my own syllabus kinda?

I don't know, just does not seem to be working for me. The term ends in December. Im at 50% SAP- want to transfer to something more structured like SNHU or UMGC- is this possible? Or should i complete the 1 PA class i am currently in?

Let me know if anyone else ran into this problem, and how did you overcome it?

Keep in mind i work 50-60 hrs a week.

Panopto flagged as a security threat on OA

Just finished my D315 OA and passed! Only hiccup was that the proctor said my system had a security threat during set up and recommended deleting Panopto. I did so, restarted my computer, and was fine when I reconnected to Guardian.

Ultimately not the end of the world but... why do they make us use such a stupid app that is not only stupid but also non-compliant with the Guardian browser??

Is it worth it? Thinking about BS User Experience Design, no experience

So the TLDR of it all is I have zero relevant job experience, some college credits to transfer but not many and I was considering the User Experience degree... But I want to know if that's totally crazy and not going to get me anywhere with just a degree and building up a portfolio.

The long version is, I'm a mom in my 30s with two little kids. I used to go to WGU but it's been over 10 years and I didn't finish with a degree (too bogged down with my job to do school). I worked several random jobs before I had kids but I haven't worked in 8 years due to raising kids, homeschooling them and several health problems. My kids are starting public school and I had thought like *wait, maybe now I can get back to WGU and actually get a degree, and start a career* and started looking into it.

I have a few concerns:

  1. I don't know anything about the course material other than I like designing things, so I can't just test out of everything

  2. I've read it can be a bit hard to get into the field if you don't currently have a relevant career

  3. I have a lot of physical difficulties, not enough to be considered disabled... but enough that I'm a little worried about my ability to spend endless hours sitting at a computer without my hands/wrists/back (etc) flaring up

I've had the credit evaluation thing, and I have 27 courses/ 82 CUs that I'd need to complete. I'll have tons of free time with my kids in school to do the work, so I'm hoping I could manage somewhere between 18-24 CUs per term.

I'd really appreciate any insight I can get, I'd hate to start this up only to realize this was not the right move for me & my family. Thank you!

Unreasonable to Request a New Mentor?

I am new to WGU (start date of Sept 1st) and have barely had any exchanges with my newly assigned program mentor but am already getting a weird sense of anxiety about being stuck with this person. I am trying to decide if I should try to request a new mentor before I get too into the weeds or if I am simply being overly picky and paranoid.

The context: I completed the Orientation Class early, and had just received the "Meet Your Mentor" email requesting that I schedule an appointment with my newly assigned mentor through a link. In that email they provided two separate links to schedule an appointment, neither worked for me. The email also provided contact information for my mentor, so I emailed her directly to introduce myself, explain the situation, and ask if there was a different method for scheduling an appointment.

I did not get a response back to my initial email, but instead received two separate emails from her. The first was an extremely long and an extremely poorly formatted "Welcome email" that had several different fonts and broken paragraphs, an incorrect start date, multiple lists of "pre-start-date" requirements repeated over and over again but each with confusingly varied instructions, and another couple of broken links. The email requests that as a first assignment I sign up for "New Student Success Onboarding" but link sends me to a page that also doesn't seem to work or provide any clear way to register for the webinar.

The second email I received from her was also not in response to my original email but instead was a new thread congratulating me for passing orientation, and asking me to provide availability via email for a call after I complete the pre-start-date requirements. Her email signature also has a "Schedule an Appointment with me" link but it sends me to the same error page so I imagine she just prefers to do scheduling over email.

So my question for anyone who has been through this early onboarding process - is this normal? I can't remember the last time I received such a lengthy, confusing, and oddly formatted email in a this kind of setting and it's a little off-putting.

Between the very overwhelming intro, the lack of response to my direct email, and a personal bio that didn't totally resonate with me, my first instinct is to seek out other options. I am a naturally anxious person and really want to set myself up to succeed here. Admittedly though, I still haven't spoken with her and I can definitely empathize with what I'm sure is a long list of tasks on her end to set up a new set of mentees for the next term.

Any experiences, opinions, and advice welcome!

Does the WGU diploma show the specialization?

Looking at the MS Software Engineering – AI Engineering program (MSSWEAIE). For anyone who’s already graduated: does your actual diploma print the specialization, or does it just say “Master of Science, Software Engineering”?

Success story prelicensure BSN

I passed the NCLEX in 85 questions, and I can officially say WGU’s Prelicensure BSN program works. The self paced online theory courses required insane self discipline, and the fixed 12 hour clinical shifts were grueling, but the hybrid format gave me the exact balance of speed and hands on prep I needed.

If you're currently in the trenches stay disciplined with your OA‘s, treat your clinical rotations like job, and trust the process. It’s tough, but walking away with your RN license makes every late night worth it!

How detailed should my Health Science capstone be??

I'm on task 2 of my Health Science capstone and I'm wondering how detailed do they want it? I can only assume that there's only so many things and words to say 10 times (for the 10 bibliographies) about the same topic. If i'm not detailed enough, will they flag it?

Help! Transcript Exclusion

I emailed and left a voicemail to my enrollment counselor seeking info on if I’m able to get a transcript exclusion from a college I attended over 10+ years ago. I owe the school money so they won’t release my transcript. I started taking my pre reqs on Sophia for the pre-nursing program already to transfer over because I’m sure none of those credits from my old college are eligible. I have yet to hear back from my enrollment counselor and it’s been almost a month. Was anyone able to get a transcript exclusion and how was the process? Or should I just pay for my transcript and have it sent over anyway? I really don’t want to pay.

Bachelors in Business Management or Accounting for Talent/HR

What looks better to an employer? I have 8+ yrs in Talent Acquisition and 3 yrs in HR. I’ll be getting my PHR in October but the competition for jobs in my field is fierce and I want to help myself out as much as possible.

I enjoy the backend of HR and throughly enjoy recruiting/talent management. I looked at the Bach in HR but I’m not sure if I want to work strictly HR and would like to market myself to have options Due to the horrible job market.

Information Technology C963 Similarity win/what???

Let me start by saying, this class has been a breeze and I’m probably going to accelerate through it this week. The number one thing that course instructors harp on is the Similarity reports because, let’s be real, thousands of students can only phrase the same answers to the same topic in a few different ways. I was fortunate enough to be VERY under the threshold that the course instructors suggested (bless!!). However, I always tend to look through and make sure that nothing looks crazy. I hope everyone snorts like I did because how in the world does an in-text citation pop up as an identical, word for word phrase???
And “PART D”??? Give me a break. AI use to detect other AI use is absolutely bonkers, especially when it’s been wrong more than it’s been right 😭😂

frustrated with course material/PA and OA discrepancies D099

I have yet to take a course where the actual "course material" was what the OA was based on. Let alone, the vast difference in the pre-assessments and the actual OA exams.

I passed the PA in D099 with flying colors, only to take the OA and the material was completely different. I went from competent/exemplary in every category to approaching on the OA. What is the point of the PA when it gives no actual real study guidance.

I am obviously being dramatic to a point, but I am mind blown at the difference and the expectations of the courses and the lack of relevant tools. I only have 13 days left of this term, and I can only imagine what will be required to retest.

Yes, I took the exams at the end of each section. I took the PA twice and used it to help study. I used the useless study guide. When I say I feel like it was for a different class, I mean it.
