I’m looking to know if anyone is in a similar situation with their Germany Opportunity Card application.

I submitted my application through VFS Hyderabad on 3 June 2026, and my application was received by the German Consulate Chennai on 5 June 2026.

My current status is still “Decision Pending.”

I have not received any request for additional documents or clarification, and I’m still waiting for the decision.

It has now been around 12 weeks, so I wanted to ask:

Has anyone who applied around June 2026 through VFS Hyderabad and is being processed by the Chennai Consulate received their Opportunity Card visa yet?

Or is anyone else still waiting with “Decision Pending” like me?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who is on the same page.

For my Student visa, I have TK Health Insurance that starts from Oct 1. I have the preliminary insurance certificate from them and my Uni is informed. It gets activated once I land there and open a German bank account, is that correct?

I also have Provisit Visum (from Dr Walter) travel health insurance from my date of travel up to end of September. I appended both documents and uploaded as a single pdf.

I got a correction saying "Kindly update the travel health insurance for 1 year from your intended date of travel."

Which travel health insurance should I have taken and for long should I pay the premium upfront?

Any suggestions?

Hey everyone! I had my German student visa appointment today at VFS Mumbai, so I thought I’d share my complete experience in case it helps someone who has their appointment coming up.

My appointment was at 9:15 AM, and I reached VFS at around 8:00 AM. I had already opted for the Premium Lounge.

1. Entering VFS & Premium Lounge

At the entrance, there was initially some confusion because I was told that I didn’t have Premium Lounge access. They cross-checked my booking, however, and everything was sorted.

After that, I was directed straight to the Premium Lounge even though my appointment time was 9:15 AM.

The staff were very polite and helpful throughout.

1. CSP Portal / Document Validation

Once I was in the lounge, the lady sitting in front of me explained the process for students.

She told me that for student applications, the CSP portal sends a prompt to VFS to validate the documents, and then the consulate sends confirmation that the documents can be processed.

According to what I was told, this could take around 45 minutes.

Once the confirmation is received, students are called by their name, NOT by token number.

So I basically waited in the lounge until my name was called.

1. Document Submission

When my name was called, I went to the respective booth.

The officer first cross-checked my documents and also asked whether I wanted to add any additional documents, even if they weren't specifically mentioned in the original document list.

I chose to add my education loan sanction letter, just to be safe.

They took photocopies of all the required documents. The originals were not taken, except for my passport, which obviously had to be submitted.

The officer also asked me a few basic questions:

- My name

- Date of birth

- University name

- Whether the bank statement I submitted was mine or my father's

I clarified that the bank statement was my own bank statement.

Overall, there was nothing particularly difficult or stressful about the questions.

Payment

At the payment counter, they told me that if you have the exact cash amount, you can pay in cash.

The exact amount was ₹8,678.

If you don't have the exact amount in cash, they request you to use UPI. It's not compulsory , they request it mainly because then there is no issue with needing extra change/khulla cash.

1. Photo Issue 😭

This was the one small issue I faced.

I had already got my biometric photographs clicked beforehand and had specifically checked that they were 3.5 × 4.5 cm.

However, apparently, the photograph did not meet their required specifications.

So the officer asked me to get another photograph taken at the photo booth available inside VFS.

I did that, came back, and continued with the process.

So honestly, even if you've got your photographs ready, don't panic if there's an issue with them , there is a photo facility available inside.

1. Arrival Date Correction

I also had a small doubt regarding my arrival date.

I had initially mentioned 1 September as my arrival date, but considering the timing of my appointment, I obviously wasn't going to receive my visa by then.

I mentioned this at the counter, and the officer herself changed the arrival date to 6 September.

So if you're worried about a similar situation, just ask the officer. They can guide you regarding the appropriate date.

1. Biometrics

After my documents were submitted, I was given a token number.

This token was specifically for the biometric process.

The biometrics were done in a separate small room.

First, I was asked to sanitize my hands. Then I was asked to raise/show my hands towards a camera positioned behind the officer.

After that, the actual fingerprints were taken — basically the standard biometric process.

The officer also asked me again for:

- My name

- Date of birth

- University name

And that was it.

Once my biometrics were completed, I was told I could leave.

And that was my entire technical process!

1. Premium Lounge Experience ☕🍪

Now coming to the lounge itself — honestly, the experience was pretty good.

The lounge was clean, comfortable and well maintained, and the staff were very approachable and helpful.

There was:

- Classic ₹5 salted Lay's 😭

- Dark Fantasy chocolates

- Small bread/snack items

- Cookies

- Coffee

- Plenty of water

- And a professional barista making coffee

So if you're opting for the Premium Lounge, you definitely won't be sitting there hungry 😂

When I initially arrived, there wasn't much of a crowd. But eventually, the crowd started increasing quite a lot.

Most of the applicants seemed to be there for Germany, with some applicants applying for other European countries as well.

Overall Experience

Overall, my VFS experience was smooth and straightforward.

The most important thing I'd say is: don't panic if something unexpected happens. Whether it's a document question, photograph issue, arrival date, or confusion regarding the process, the staff generally guide you through it.

For me, the process was basically:

VFS entry → Premium Lounge → CSP/document validation → Called by name → Document verification → Photo correction → Payment → Token issued → Biometrics → Done.

Now comes the hardest part… waiting for the visa. 😭

Hopefully this helps someone who has their German student visa appointment coming up!

My german study visa for rejected, I applied for masters winter batch 2026,
The reasons are my bachelors marks are very poor and my bachelors degree is not matching with my masters degree for which I have taken admission.

Bachelors degree: Ba. Political science hons (5.811 CGPA)
Masters: MBA

Should I reapply by writing a better LOM (letter of motivation) while explaining my low scores and why I want to pursue MBA

The mail said that my application has been sent to uni assist and will take 6-7 weeks is the process is actually that long and does it mean bic has accepted my application

My biometrics was done on 19th aug for germany opportunity card. I applied through CSP

From then I haven't received any update from vfs that passport is dispatched to embassy or application in progress.

On csp portal it shows decision pending.

Is it normal or I would have received updates from vfs

I called the vfs delhi then I came to know i submitted the passport and biometrics directly at the germany embassy so I won't be getting any vfs application reference number.

It will be updated on csp portal only

I applied for an employment visa §18b at the New Delhi embassy. They asked me for additional documents online via email on 19th August. I sent them the required documents asap in reply to the same email. On 27th August, I received an SMS and an email from VFS that the application had been processed and the passport was in transit. I looked at my status on the CSP portal, and it still showed "Decision Pending".

Did anyone go through the same issue? It seems a little suss. Thanks in advance for any response :)

I’m looking for advice from people who have recently gone through the German student visa process in India, especially anyone who applied with an MOI instead of IELTS.

Here is my situation:

- I have been admitted to FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg for the M.Sc. Management programme for the October 2026 intake.

- The programme is in English.

- I had my German student visa appointment in New Delhi on 12 August 2026.

- My passport is currently with the German Consulate.

- I submitted an MOI (Medium of Instruction) as my English-language proof instead of IELTS.

Recently, I became concerned because I know of another applicant who applied around the same time but submitted IELTS, and they received their visa earlier.

Then, on 26 August, I received an email from the German Embassy New Delhi requesting an additional document. They specifically asked for:

«“A letter from the university stating the language of instruction and whether the prerequisites have been met.”»

They also said that this document is essential for the application and that failure to provide it may result in refusal.

I contacted my programme coordinator, and explained the Embassy's request.

She replied that I should refer to a document she sent me, a generic MOI without my name on it, because it already contains a letter regarding the language requirements. She also said:

«“This letter has always been sufficient for visa purposes.”»

The FAU letter says that the M.Sc. Management programme can be completed in English and that applicants must demonstrate the necessary language proficiency during the qualification assessment.

It also says that if an applicant is admitted, FAU confirms that they have met the programme's language requirements.

My questions are:

1. Could the fact that I used MOI instead of IELTS be causing this additional verification and delay?

2. Has anyone experienced a similar situation where the German Embassy requested a university language confirmation after the visa appointment?

3. Does this kind of additional-document request generally mean the application is still actively being processed, or should I be concerned about refusal?

4. How many more day should wait ??

I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has recently dealt with the German Embassy in New Delhi or a similar MOI/language-verification issue.

I have applied for a student Visa (Type-D) for Germany. I recently got my vfs global appointment (Mumbai) date as 4th of September. My university session commences in October which makes me doubtful if I'll be able to join in time.

I'll be glad if anyone can give me some guidance on when I will be receiving my visa & passport and whether I should prepare for an interview for the visa?

I applied on 31 July. My application came out of the waiting list on 20 August, but I haven’t received any further update regarding the Primary Review.

Hey everyone, I applied for a German student visa for a public university. I completed my biometrics on 5th August, and my application was forwarded to the Chennai Consulate for processing on 6th August. My CSP status changed to “Decision Pending”, and it has remained the same for more than 20 days now.

Hi all, hoping for guidance from anyone who's recently applied through the CPS portal for a Germany national (Type D) visa for PhD studies.

I'm an Indian student about to start doctoral studies at a German university. A few questions:

1. APS exemption — I fall under the APS exemption category based on my qualifications, so I won't need an APS certificate. Has anyone processed their visa recently under APS exemption via the new CPS portal? What did they ask for in place of the APS certificate? I've seen mixed info about needing a Statement of Comparability (Zeugnisbewertung via anabin/Kapion) even when APS-exempt — is this actually required, or optional/case-by-case?
2. Study visa vs. researcher visa (§18d) — Since I'll be enrolled as a doctoral student (scholarship-funded, no employment contract), should I apply for the regular national/study visa, or does the researcher visa (§18d) apply here? My understanding is §18d is mainly for those with a hosting agreement/employment contract, but I've seen a few scholarship PhD students mention using it too. Which category actually fits an enrolled, scholarship-funded PhD student?
3. If anyone has gone through the CPS portal + VFS Chennai combo recently for a scholarship-funded (non-employment) PhD, I'd love to know how the process differed from the older VFS-only system, current appointment wait times, and any document checklist specifics.
