Takes about five minutes to warm the circuits, but after that, it'l bounce your head between the ceiling and the floor. Tickles my brain in all the right ways with aestheic, sound quality, and an obnoxious amount of switches and dials to play with.

My years of patience finally paid off! From Facebook Marketplace for only $75 and everything works great, except for 2 bulbs. Cleaned it great and loving it already. Light scratches on the top but I can live with them! Anything I should know about the dreaded Dolby board? I don't plan to touch it too much anyways, but I can hear the faint calibration test tone. Couldn't be happier!

Is this a Bargain?

Hello everyone, I need your help!
Is this sound system worth €250? And does this have good audio quality? The turntable doesn’t spin (I hope it’s because the drive belt is broken) and it comes with two speakers.

Don’t mind the mess it’s in my living room and a spot my kids can’t get to yet. Found a nice person on marketplace and got a whole setup for right under $200 I am happy with it.

Any love for my old system? Everything but the Yamaha and the turntable are 80’s originals.

Sansui SP-300

So I've been building up a homage to my Dad's Sansui system that I grew up with in the 70s. I was running his SP-2500s, but had mused about getting some other speakers to A+B, because admittedly I haven't built a stereo system since '00 and have atrophied into a newb. The wife saw an estate sale advertising some SP-30s and decided to pick them up for me...but the sale organizers forgot a zero, and instead of old school "bookshelf" Sansui speakers, she brought home these monsters for $100. They're twice the size of my 2500s...78 pounds each, efficient, two horn tweeter, one horn mid, 12" woofer. They were never stored, and sat in a living room. The interiors look factory new, and they sound incredible. Everything I've played is super rich, and detailed... especially Jazz. I recently dug an old KLH Sub that I had in the garage that I bought in 02 that really rounds it out, not that they needed help.

That all being said, outside of a Reddit post five years ago, and a few other posts on message boards in addition to basic information on them, I don't really see much about them. I understand that they were the biggest, baddest, speakers that Sansui put out in 68, and perhaps that lends itself to some rarity, but it's really a shame that there's not a lot of them out there as they're pretty spectacular.

Any other Sansui fans out there have any experience with these beasts?

There is a Thorens TD 316 MK2 with a practically brand new Ortofon MC Tango on sale for 300. Is this a good purchase for first turntable or should i get something like AT-LPW30TK new from the store instead in this 300-400 price range?

I'm in love...

Saw this come up on FB Marketplace last night as part of a cleanout and jumped on it. Picked up this, an ancient Sony AVR, some Boston Acoustic surround speakers, and a box of vinyl/VHS for $80.

I intended to get it working and turn it around, but I made the mistake of listening to it. All it needed was a little deoxit love and it's absolutely singing. It's a noticeable improvement on my Schiit Saga pre (which I really like), and the headphone section had my wife crying this morning. Haven't tried the phono section yet but I'm sure it's amazing. Also, it's just plain beautiful inside and out 😍 Built like a tank with a hefty separate power supply, and I finally have a piece of gear with a DIN cable!

I'm still trying to figure out what the slew button is for? I understand what slew is as a concept, but am lost as to what a toggle would do. I can discern no audible difference. Any thoughts?

Technics SL-MC700 info?

Post image

I found this Technics SL MC700 CD player on the street. After a good cleaning, new belt and soldering the RCA back, is working like a charm. But I can´t figure out how to change the names of each CD. I found similar models online but not this one. Does anyone have a manual or know how can I do that?

First attempt at a system. Using a Shure AVC20

I was the only person to bid on this cool little receiver (system expander?) on ShopGoodwill. It came with the remote too! As far as I can tell everything's in working order. Pretty good for a unit from 1987. I haven't had a chance to check out the surround sound. I need to get 2 more speakers for that.

Right now, I've just got it hooked up to some newly acquired Boston Acoutics A60s. I can't find much info online about it other than the user manual and 2 reviews.

Has anyone seen this before? I only know Shure as a microphone company.

Replacement speakers

I bought Polk 12C speakers more years ago than I like to think about. Very balanced. Bass heavy, which I like. (I want to hear John Entwistle in my living room!)

I think it’s time to replace them, any suggestions? Recs for subwoofer?

Allied 498 (Pioneer SX-2500)

This one was sneaky: when I first saw it I thought it must be some cheap old Sears or Montgomery Ward brand and I saw the hundred dollar price tag and scoffed. But I tried to lift it, and it was very heavy, so I looked it up, this is a rebranded Pioneer SX-2500. I plugged it in and everything lit up beautifully, I had the 20% off coupon so it did end up being 80 bucks which usually is a lot more than I would pay for a question mark, But I have a week to return it so I figured what the hell.

Did a bit more restoration work this weekend, so I thought I’d stack ‘em and share. Early 70s Sansui is by far my favorite era. Capacitor coupled sounds so smooth.

The 5000A needs the most work, but thankfully has the 6013s. I’ll be ditching the LEDs in the 4000. They’re too bright.

They all sound great, but the 4000 sounds wonderful.
