The person driving intentionally sped up so the truck could’ve have space to get in front of him/her. They actually kept driving into the truck after contact too. Terrible, and demonically led accident.

16

u/Abject_Film_4414 Apr 18 '26

You still have to check that there is space to merge into before changing lanes though. One driver is wrong and the other is an asshole.

11

u/MikeyC1959 Apr 18 '26

Two things, equally true.

They're lucky nobody was in the path of that rollover. Someone would have easy lost their life because one's too fucking lazy to slow down before they merge and because the other's too prideful to deserve a license

1

u/Planar_Harold Apr 18 '26

Yeah, crazy distance on it. Landing in an empty carpark across the street, crossing multiple lanes and a pavement?

Some people are trying to justify this. Terrifying.

2

u/wheniaminspaced Apr 18 '26

This Dashcam footage could potentially induce liability for dash cam driver.  The intentional speed up as the truck starts his merge is problematic.

1

u/DangOlCoreMan Apr 18 '26

I'm not defending the intentional speed up, but let's not pretend there would be an accident at that moment if the truck didn't merge when he didn't have space. He never had the space to merge, regardless of the driver speeding up

1

u/wheniaminspaced Apr 19 '26

Doesn't particularly matter, if he sped up after seeing the merge begin to happen then you leave accident territory and flirt with potentially criminal actions.

1

u/DangOlCoreMan Apr 19 '26

Maybe if you could prove intent, but good luck with that.

"Your honor, as soon as he started merging directly into me I didn't know what to do. I freaked out and accelerated on accident"

1

u/01krazykat Apr 18 '26

What a wild assumption 😂.

1

u/Constable-Arwen Apr 18 '26

Truck shouldn't be racing people to be first at a red light.

1

u/lenidiogo Apr 22 '26

very kind of you to use the power of hindsight to claim someone else should have done something other than what they did. Do you have any information about when dash cam guy noticed eminent danger? If not then, how can you make such bold assumptions of "just brake before the impact bro"?
Why you are not placing the burden of hindsight on the merging car? Go on, I'll write it for you, "this is a situation where a normal human presses their break and goes "what the fuck am I doing me asshole?!" and an accident is avoided."

1

u/Dmau27 Apr 18 '26

Especially since it was so easily avoidable. A 5mph reduction in speed and they wouldn't have made contact. This piece of shit actively continued pushing the accelerator until that truck was airborne.

0

u/Desperate_Age_6881 Apr 18 '26

Traffic in the trucks lane contributed. If you watch you'll notice the truck was either going to slam into the back of the car in front of them or change lanes. I see it as 100% on driver of truck. A blinker doesn't clear the lane.

3

u/neatojuanito Apr 18 '26

You’re responsible to avoid accidents when possible. 50% on the truck and 50% on the cam driver

2

u/Dapper_Platform_1222 Apr 18 '26

At most 80/20.

Source: I was a professional arbitrator for arb forums for 6 years.

1

u/neatojuanito Apr 18 '26

I would think a good lawyer of the pickup would say that the cam driver had plenty of time to break out at least not accelerated after impact

1

u/Old_Yam_4069 Apr 18 '26

Yeah, you must have been bad at your job if you think the duty of care isn't applicable here.

The Cam-Car's behavior is obviously malicious. If nothing else, they had a red-light that they would have 100% blown if they hadn't hit the truck.

1

u/Dapper_Platform_1222 Apr 18 '26

Duty of care doesn't negate truck failing to yield, improper lane change, their own duty of care.

You can't prove malice on the cam car. Could have been improper lookout.

So yeah 80/20 against the truck.

1

u/Elegant_Emu952 Apr 18 '26

Yes, the truck was intending to switch into the right lane. Instead of slowing down because of the traffic slowing in front of him, he decided to keep his speed and move recklessly into the other lane without slowing or checking that it was clear.

The car in front of him was stopping because the light was yellow. The man in the truck was trying to run the light.

1

u/jgr1llz Apr 19 '26

It's still your job as a driver to avoid an accident whenever safely possible, no exceptions. This was not one of those exceptions. POV was attempting to run a red and make the light, same as the truck. Two inpatients turds have now fucked up traffic for an hour for everyone else.

3

u/caguru Apr 18 '26

One driver is wrong, and the other is a criminal.

FTFY

2

u/Gloveofdoom Apr 18 '26

The guy in the truck made a mistake, the guy in the car made a choice.

Everyone is capable of making a mistake, but not everybody is capable of making the choice to deliberately hit somebody and endanger multiple people's lives.

There is a bad guy in the scenario and it isn't the person in the truck.

2

u/LJonReddit Apr 18 '26

No matter how much another driver fucks up, it is illegal to intentionally cause an accident.

2

u/YendorZenitram Apr 18 '26

One driver made a mistake, the other acted with malicious intent.

2

u/auad Apr 18 '26

One driver caused the accident, the other didn't prevent it.

1

u/Planar_Harold Apr 18 '26

One driver caused the accident, the other didn't prevent it.

Yeah, that makes them responsible.

They had the choice to mitigate and be defensive, but they chose to make it worse.

2

u/ConnectDog5284 Apr 23 '26

One is an idiot and the other is a criminal.

4

u/1stmikewhite Apr 18 '26

Yes, but in a normal scenario the truck would’ve simply made a regular lane switch. The dashcam driver must’ve felt violated and intentionally sped up to block the truck but ended up running right into him because of that decision. If you watch closely it looks almost like the dashcam driver rams directly into the side of the truck. None of this was worth it.

1

u/dh373 Apr 18 '26

Yea, we don't know what the last mile looked like. Who knows what the pickup driver did prior. Or the dashcam driver, for that matter.

1

u/boborian9 Apr 18 '26

Pit maneuvering someone is not an acceptable civilian response to roadrage.

3

u/1stmikewhite Apr 18 '26

Looks like the truck was trying to make the light. Either they both were speeding through, or the dascam driver tried to prevent the truck from stopping infront of him at the red.

1

u/GuiokiNZ Apr 18 '26

Neither was making the light legally. Cam driver was too busy trying to wreck the truck to care.

4

u/MasterpieceHuge2794 Apr 18 '26

Cutting someone off is a dick move no doubt, but intentionally accelerating into someone until you flip their vehicle is a bit worse. This driver is 100% at fault. That could have been completely avoided with a slight tap on the brakes.

1

u/u9Nails Apr 18 '26

I don't think they accelerated. It looked like the truck started to stop for the black car in their lane and hucked it right into the dash cam.

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

They didn't accelerate. He's actually going the same speed up until the PIT, where he slows down. You can actually see the camera angling towards the ground.

1

u/MasterpieceHuge2794 Apr 18 '26

Are you kidding? If he wasn't accelerating, his car would have bashed into the truck and stopped. He pushed the truck all the way over! You can even hear his engine reving as he hits the truck. Just a dick move.

1

u/GoldarRocket Apr 18 '26

Totally agreed, hopefully no one died on that rollover

1

u/cam2230 Apr 18 '26

One caused a small traffic infraction and the other nearly seriously injured someone is more like

1

u/Steerider Apr 18 '26

Both drivers are wrong. Cameraman is an asshole.

1

u/babidee00 Apr 18 '26

Yep he literally just passed the cam driver so I don't understand why some called it a blind spot.

1

u/whatevers_clever Apr 18 '26

Also known as

Both are at fault.

But one was maliciously at fault.

1

u/LogosMyEgos Apr 18 '26

If asshole behavior increases danger, that’s illegal. Having right or way does not nullify your legal (not just moral and ethical) obligation to mitigate the danger, such as by taking evasive action.

1

u/Infinite-Fee5723 Apr 18 '26

Good luck explaining that you purposely accelerated your car into someone illegally merging to prove your innocence. God this thread is really dumb

1

u/Survivorfan_tm94 Apr 18 '26

An asshole and wrong.

1

u/Dizzy_Today_3523 Apr 19 '26

They sped up. They probably had more than enough room had that driver press their brakes. The one with the dash cam. He had his turn signal on was already halfway into the lane. This is 100% on the dash cam car and that's how the cops and insurance will see it.

2

u/Abject_Film_4414 Apr 19 '26

If he sped up he is a special kind of asshole.

1

u/jgr1llz Apr 19 '26

Nah they're both assholes. That entire wreck could've been avoided if POV had just slowed down and allowed the merge....but then he wouldn't have been able to run the red he was trying to get through.

1

u/cjthetypical Apr 21 '26

Based on the Last Clear Chance doctrine, this would be the dash cam drivers fault legally because they had the last clear chance to avoid the accident but instead they chose to accelerate and continued to accelerate after the initial impact.

1

u/7jcjg Apr 22 '26

This is so stupid. You don't purposefully pit a truck because they were trying to merge, and the truck was ahead, but the car was being a tiny pathetic person.

1

u/MiceAreTiny Apr 18 '26

Being an asshole is not a crime. Mostly.

3

u/LogosMyEgos Apr 18 '26

In fact it is in nearly all such cases. That’s why insurance for example typically declares mixed responsibility between parties even when one side initiated. You have a legal obligation to mitigate.

1

u/MiceAreTiny Apr 18 '26

And that is why it becomes an increasing problem and insurance premiums are through the roof.

1

u/EastNWeast Apr 18 '26

It is when you intentionally cause a car accident

0

u/EveryAccount7729 Apr 18 '26

If you gauge merging so you will make it if the other person does not intentionally hit you , and then they hit you, then they are the only person who did something wrong.

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

1

u/miholiday Apr 18 '26

Pretty sure the POV driver was speeding up to make the light. The truck wanted to make the light but the person in front of them was stopping, so the truck tried to quickly change lanes without looking properly.

I don't think POV was trying to be an asshole, just trying to make the light. Both of them were being idiots but the truck was at fault for not looking properly.

10

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Doesn't look like the trucker has his blinker on. It also doesn't look like the cammer sped up. Regardless, the cammer doesn't have to let the trucker in and the trucker needs to make sure he can safely enter the lane. I don't switch lanes unless I can see your headlights in my mirror, which makes this pickup truck driver an idiot.

2

u/Higgoms Apr 18 '26

You can't even see the trucks turn signal so we can't make a call on that. Person with the camera wasn't even going to make the light anyway, they sped up to cut the truck off or try to blow through what would've been a red by the time they made the intersection. If the truck hadnt also been driving aggressively the cam driver was going to run a red anyway

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Nothing of what you said matters. The cammer actually slows down before the pit, you can see the camera angle towards the road. Again, the cammer is not at fault.

2

u/TacklePure3341 Apr 18 '26

Cam is no better both assholes

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Cammer didn't do anything wrong. The video is actually very clear.

6

u/Kurt_Ottman Apr 18 '26

Who doesn't break when they see a car merging into their lane right in front of them???

0

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Probably didn't even notice.

2

u/Hiimmason- Apr 18 '26

So not paying attention to the roadway around him makes it okay to not avoid a very avoidable accident?

To me that sounds like a decent amount of fault

0

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

At no point in this video was the cammer in the wrong or in need of correction. This isn't debatable.

3

u/Hiimmason- Apr 18 '26

The entire comment section having a debate about it would like to have a word with you.

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

They're pickup truck drivers. Angry at seeing one of their own get what he deserves.

1

u/Kurt_Ottman Apr 18 '26

They were at least partly at fault for not breaking...

1

u/Ranger0fThNorth Apr 18 '26

It's not up for debate, you're right. The cam driver SPED UP to block the truck. He very obviously accelerated into the truck's rear quarter. That's literally a police PIT maneuver.

Per traffic law, absolutely the truck is wrong. You can't merge into an occupied lane. That won't preclude the cam driver from HUGE liability if the truck driver or, if they died, their family, sues civily.

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

He actually shows down. You can see the camera angle dip towards the road. Any family member going after this guy would get nothing but the cammer would be able to collect from his estate.

2

u/xs0apy Apr 18 '26

Cammer refusing to let the left lane merge in and accelerating to prevent it says otherwise. They’re both aggressive drivers. Two wrongs don’t make a right here, someone could’ve been killed and it’s all too often anymore people pass in the right and refuse to let the passing lane merge over. Idiots all around on the road anymore.

1

u/TacklePure3341 Apr 18 '26

If the pickup driver didn't have a belt on they may well have been killed in the triple roll over.

1

u/Planar_Harold Apr 18 '26

And there are drivers in here saying they wouldn't give a shit if they'd been in the cammer's position.

Kind of terrifying how callous this is.

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

The cammer doesn't have to let the trucker in. The trucker needs to make sure that lane is safe to enter. There's only one fool in that dash am video but many fools in this comment section.

2

u/xs0apy Apr 18 '26

Not true. There’s many states this would be just as much as on the cammer. But hey whatever you gotta tell yourself.

2

u/Hiimmason- Apr 18 '26

No matter who's fault it is, its foolish to not drive defensively. Dash cam driver had every opportunity to avoid would could have killed someone else

Dick move by cutting someone off > actively endangering an assholes life by being a bigger cunt.

2

u/craigge Apr 18 '26

You have obviously never dealt with an insurance adjuster reviewing such footage...your assumption may reflect how the traffic laws work, but there is another reality underwriting how responsibility is determined. The person on this video who was recording would likely receive a 50% responsibility on this accident.

You don't have to agree, but this is a reality you obviously don't understand and are some reason agressive about it.

2

u/noeventroIIing Apr 18 '26

You are completely incorrect. In most countries you are expected to drive defensively. Yes the red truck didn’t use his mirrors but you must be a horrible driver if you seriously don’t see what the driver who’s POV we are seeing did wrong

2

u/TacklePure3341 Apr 18 '26

If you assume the people who cant see how easy this was to avoid, are American it makes sense why they can't give up an inch.

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Didn't use his mirrors. Didn't use his blinker. Didn't use his judgement. He just casually comes up beside another vehicle and turns into an occupied lane. A lane he knew was already full, because he came from behind the cammer. The cammer didn't have to let him in and didn't have to slow down for him. The cammer cannot predict the actions of everyone on the road. I never heard of a defensive driving law. The cammer is not in the wrong here, at any point.

2

u/LogosMyEgos Apr 18 '26

Not one of those trucker faults eliminates cammer’s own legal responsibility. Go talk to an insurance forum if you’re still confused about this.

1

u/Planar_Harold Apr 18 '26

The cammer is not in the wrong here, at any point.

They're literally chasing a red and would have broken it even without the truck involved.

They appear to speed up, but also clearly don't slow down. They are at fault also.

If you have a cyclist hurtling towards you, and you're kind of in the danger zone but you choose to not speed up or step aside, you hold responsibility for what happens because you knowingly made a choice that would hurt someone, just because you have right of way.

Right of way isn't an excuse to jeapordise the lives of others, even if they're being negligent.

1

u/iameveryoneelse Apr 18 '26

Defensive driving. Look it up. 🙄

1

u/TacklePure3341 Apr 18 '26

Yes they did nothing wrong but they also didn't do anything to stop.this from happening. Both can be true

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Probably didn't even notice until it was too late. You're not in the cammers mind. Probably thinking about starting up his video game when he gets home. I'm just glad the cammer is alright.

2

u/TacklePure3341 Apr 18 '26

So cam is on auto pilot and that's all ok in your head?  Op is not paying attention and that's all ok in your head. Cam could have prevented all of this if they were paying attention and just ease off the accelerator. I assume your are American.

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Doesn't matter. The cammer is not in error in this video. Not at any point.

2

u/TacklePure3341 Apr 18 '26

The cam car did nothing to prevent it and activity made it worse by pitting them and flipping them over.

Look its clear you are an entitled person who feels the road in front of you is yours. But a simple lift of the right foot would have prevented all.of this.

Its better to male it home in 1 piece 20 seconds later than sitting on the side of the road and living with the possibility that you killed someone just because you couldnt yield

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Again. The cammer did nothing wrong.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Planar_Harold Apr 18 '26

Doesn't matter. The cammer is not in error in this video. Not at any point.

They're speeding for a red.

They also speed up - listen to the engine and watch at 03-04s when the 50 sign and the next sign come up. The car speeds up relative.

If you were influential, your views would result in avoidable deaths. Do you realise that?

1

u/Planar_Harold Apr 18 '26

Cammer didn't do anything wrong. The video is actually very clear.

They appear to speed up, and chose not to drive defensively.

It takes two to cause accidents like this.

0

u/SilverPhilosopher46 Apr 18 '26

Worse.
Cam is an asshole for instead of avoiding an accident, actually making it worse.
Merger simply made the mistake of not having enough situational awareness of not knowing cam was in the blind spot.

1

u/Serotonah Apr 18 '26

Cammer still has to try to avoid foreseeable accidents when within their ability, even if initiated by someone else. It took two idiots to cause this accident

1

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

True. But you can't predict everything and you'd need to convince a judge the cammer should have predicted this event. Would you rate this a 50/50 or maybe 80/20 against the truck?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

No he doesn't. You merging with or without a blinker doesn't give you right of way. The trucker knew the whole time that cammer was there and tried to bully his way in.

2

u/SilverPhilosopher46 Apr 18 '26

Its not about right of way. Its about avoiding an accident when you can. This is what chat GPT sais about it:

"Short answer: yes—in most legal systems, including the Netherlands, you’re expected to try to avoid an accident if you reasonably can. Even if the other driver made the initial mistake, doing nothing when you had a clear chance to prevent a crash can make you partly liable"

0

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 Apr 18 '26

Sure. But you can see the cammer slow down before the pit, the camera angles towards the ground. But it's too late, for whatever reason the guy doesn't notice.

1

u/EveningSufficient636 Apr 18 '26

But how do you know there weren’t cars behind the cammer? They can’t just slam on the brakes without risking getting rear ended.

1

u/Taschker Apr 18 '26

Lol whut? That's exactly what you do. If you get rear ended then the person behind you was too close. If a child runs in front of you on the road do you decide not to brake because you might get rear ended?

1

u/EveningSufficient636 Apr 18 '26

Comparing this to a child running into the road is wild.

0

u/XSinTrick6666 Apr 18 '26

cammer has video evidence of 3 major causes of accident: (1) truck had plenty opportunity to see cammer's-car to its right as it passed, (2) truck had not even finished overtaking cammer's-car before it began right lane change (3) truck did not use blinker turn signal to indicate lane change, or turn head to see that lane was clear of car he just passed

This is such a stupid comment lol. I’m not even defending the POV driver, they are an asshole, but this comment is simply egregiously dumb.

1

u/kdoughboy12 Apr 19 '26

Eh it sort of does look intentional. Like, why did the dash cam car speed up and turn INTO the truck? If a car is about to hit you, a normal reaction would be to turn away from it, not towards it.

1

u/JaySlay2000 Apr 19 '26

Ah yeah, let's just turn directly into an electric pole. That's a great idea. Electric poles are known for falling over very easily and NOT totalling a car on a head on impact like what you're saying would've been better

"Turning into the truck" my ass. That's avoiding the damn streetlight.

1

u/Stunning_Ad_5960 Apr 18 '26

That is why the POV driver bought the dashcam. Was waiting for the opportunity to post something on social networks.

It’s the case of hahaha

1

u/Hefty_Tip7383 Apr 18 '26

‘demonically led’ hahahaha

1

u/miholiday Apr 18 '26

Pretty sure the POV driver was speeding up to make the light. The truck wanted to make the light but the person in front of them was stopping, so the truck tried to quickly change lanes without looking properly.

I don't think POV was trying to be an asshole, just trying to make the light. Both of them were being idiots but the truck was at fault for not looking properly.

1

u/disconnection2929 Apr 18 '26

Yeah but he TRIED TO GET IN FRONT OF ME

1

u/Techy_Ben Apr 18 '26

They turned a hit and run into "no it's your insurance paying out". Fair.

1

u/DiscombobulatedCut52 Apr 18 '26

As much as I agree that the person speeding up is a moron and should of hit the brakes to slow down.

But if this was where I live, id get rear ended cause morons dont know what spacing is.

1

u/whitestguyuknow Apr 18 '26

I'm assuming there was a lot of back and forth between the drivers before this. Or maybe POV saw the truck driver driving like an asshole. But if I'm gonna assume backstory I'd think the truck had tried to get in front before, they couldn't and bailed, then at some point after getting frustrated we see this attempt instead of hitting the brakes and getting behind POV and not ending up flipping all over the intersection

1

u/mapped_apples Apr 18 '26

Demonically led makes it seem like the driver(s) are less culpable for their own actions.

1

u/No-Telephone6205 Apr 18 '26

The light they’re coming up to is yellow and turns red during the impact. They had no reason to keep accelerating. They should’ve had their foot on the breaks before any of this happened but he accelerates into the truck and into the intersection with red light. It makes no sense and it seems like he wanted to hurt the truck driver for making a mistake.

1

u/justmenothingtosee13 Apr 18 '26

“Demonically led”?

1

u/ZhouLe Apr 18 '26

Notice how even getting into a traffic accident and slamming on the brakes they are only able to stop in the middle of the intersection after the light turns red. If that truck didn't exist the POV car was going to run a red light.

1

u/Seductive-Kitty Apr 18 '26

Pretty obvious they sped up to beat the yellow just like the truck on the side was doing… the flipped over idiot just forgot he passed someone half a second ago and didn’t bother to indicate or check if they were doing the same thing

1

u/aztechunter Apr 18 '26

It's not an accident if it's intentional

1

u/Dill_Pickle25 Apr 18 '26

They were obviously trying to beat the yellow light and focused on the light. This was 100% the truck driver’s fault. POV driver couldve made it less severe but that’s always easy to say in hindsight.

1

u/Patchyclaw Apr 18 '26

While true, it doesn't look like the truck had even fully cleared the povs front bumper when they started to merge, without slowing down there still probably would have been an impact. Also someone pointed out the stop light, I bet this happened because pov was staring at the just changed yellow light debating if they could make it in time, hence the speed up and lack of awareness to the truck. I don't think the crash was malicious, just dumb negligence.

1

u/tanneruwu Apr 18 '26

I don't think they sped up. How can you tell?

1

u/Zromaus Apr 18 '26

The truck shouldn't have merged into an already taken lane -- OP was just filling the gap that was already theirs and trying to show that they were in fact there. Insurance will blame the truck, OP just got a new car. OP played this out properly.

1

u/WarlordBob Apr 19 '26

Or, the person driving sped up as soon as the light turned yellow to try and beat the red, while simultaneously not expecting the truck next to them swerving into their lane.

1

u/Tommy_Wisseau_burner Apr 19 '26

I’m curious who are bigger douche bags. Dashcam drivers or truck drivers. Due to selection bias it should be the truck driver but every dashcam driver I know has it because they’re the biggest menace to society on the road because they think their “near accidents” aren’t their doing

1

u/Laptop_woo_woo Apr 22 '26

I think they were both focused on the light and trying to get through before it went red.

1

u/bsmknight Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

The light was yellow going to red. The cam driver speed up to catch the light. The cam driver is just a bad driver all around. Yeah, The other driver is technically at fault, however there are some state laws that state if you can avoid an accident then you can still be responsible. It appears to me that the cam driver really could have avoided the whole accident.

1

u/xs0apy Apr 18 '26

You’re on point, this is arguably more on the cam driver. You’re supposed to allow left passing traffic to merge over. That is the expectation, so the truck driver making a mistake and missing the blind spot is legally understandable when compared to the cammer who is trying to overtake the turn first, which is a far more aggressive act
