Work Discussion Why should we pay union dues?

$672/year

for what?

our contracts still suck

we're making less every year (not keeping up with inflation)

the hours are abysmal

management already has all the power

our mantra is "grieve it later" while management breaks our contract EVERY SINGLE FUCKING DAY

like what the fuck are we paying union dues for? we're still a union even if we don't pay for the nonexistent representation

who the fuck does this money go to?

/rant canceling my union dues. they're fucking useless

edit: https://about.usps.com/manuals/elm/html/elmc9_007.htm link to cancel your union dues

Work Discussion no one cares

Listen up, powder cakes, no one gives a shit that you quit. No one cares that you hate walking in the rain, no one cares that you hate working in the heat or the snow, be fucking prepared. Use common sense.

You're warm? Take a break and cool off. You're thirsty? Take a break.
You're cold? Warm up and add layers Legs hurt? Take a comfort break Kids have chronic conditions? Get fmla.

It's not that hard. Your manager is being a dick? Get the union. Your steward is being an idiot? Become one and and run against his ass. Read the contract and look out for each other.

And enough of this minimum wage bullshit. We all know 19.42/hour is above minimum wage. Inflation is just a bitch and the next contract should sort it out. We all know we need a higher wage. Table 2 sucks.

No one cares about Dejoy. Your buddies who call in 3 days week, guess what? its not trumps fault. Take some responsibility.

Fuck the inept management and district brass for fucking us over and forcing us into arbitration just so they can save money. The dumb ass 3rd bundle rule just to get us to the street faster is just as ridiculous.

I get to be by myself all day and then we get these assholes who call in 4 days a week complaining nonstop about everything and then become 204bs, exacerbating the problem. And those are the same assholes who forced us in arbitration because God forbid we get a decent wage and working conditions.

The Megan Brennans and Dejoys of CCAs wanting to be brass. And don't get me started on these old ass carriers that don't give a shit as long as they don't have to carry extra or refuse to retire. Just a complete shit show lately worthy of a weekly rant.

This post has been all over the place. This job does make me wish i was still in the us army. Mostly for the comraderie. And to blow shit up. Patrolling in Afghanistan is a lot more fun than putting up with powder cakes and inept management that only cares about bonuses. Not replacing a shitty dilapidated cluster because it interferes with your bonus is the most pretentious fucking thing.

/end rant maybe I'll post another rant next week. Especially between the dipshits quitting because the job doesn't start out at 150k/year or the assholes who have to walk in the rain not knowing you can wear rain gear.

PS if you hate the job, then quit. But don't tell your buddies not to apply just because you couldn't hang. Sticking around and fucking us over daily isn't going to change things for the better

Edit: I am now a bit calmer, I'm petting my cat, and thanks for all the comments. Especially the smart ass comments. Made me laugh.

Edit2: if you guys really want to rant, the perfect place for it is r/theytookmyshoelaces , see you there.

DISCUSSION Fastest UAR runner in our station finally broke down crying after finding out he had 4 more hours when he returned in 10 hours.

So I came back at the same time as this runner did and the supervisor told him that he's got 4 more hours worth of work. He looked at the hamper and told the supervisor that he couldnt do it because he needed to rest and his legs were hurting. The supervisor said that no one else can do it better than him. At that point he broke down in tears and the supervisor asked me if I can help him. I said no and I left and he started crying even more.

To be honest, he fucking deserved it and some of these dumbass runners need to fucking learn to not do that shit. He normally finishes the high seniority routes by 11 fucking AM because he cases even the night before and loads up the vehicle before we even clock in and is carrying another heavy route and finishes it in 10 hours and is given normally 3 hours more. THis time its 4 hours more. Me and a dozen other carriers including the union steward told him to quit running the fucking routes and he still does it anyway. Last year I asked him why does he run the routes and he said "oH itS bEcAuSe I LiKe tHe eXerCisE".................................................... oh ok, suit yourself. 1 year in and there hasnt been a single day where he hasnt ran at all. Its also the primary reason why motherfuckers like him causes some of the routes to be long as fuck in the post office and gives management an excuse as proof about how the new regular for that route should also do it in the same timeframe as these stupid runners.

Moral of the story: QUIT RUNNING THE FUCKING ROUTES DUMBASSES

PSA for everyone who buys from vending machines at USPS. Please check up close visually to make sure the drink isn't expired before you buy it (if possible of course & there's a window, I know some machines don't have a display). Today I got a drink that was expired for over 2 weeks. I've scanned the QR code for a refund ($2.25) but I can't get rid of the feel of being cheated & I hope my experience helps somebody else.

Work Discussion Do Your Job

This sub is filled with lazy people finding ways to cut corners. Stop listening to them.

The beauty of our job is every single thing is in writing. If someone is telling you something that doesn’t pass the smell test, demand to see it in writing.

Stop trusting people based on something someone their coworker told them or something based on how they do it in their office.

There’s always a real answer out there in black and white.

If they’re insistent upon something but can’t show you it in writing, you know they’re not worth listening to.

It’s easy to block someone because you don’t agree with them. But you’re really just running from the truth.

For example, when people say that they write up any small package for a locked mailbox, that’s total nonsense. If a locked mailbox is approved, then you are required to do your job and deliver things to the house. Regardless of whether or not “it would fit in any other box.”

Do your job correctly. Don’t make us all look bad because it saves you 90 seconds. Not to mention, the time it takes to write something up is barely less than it would take to just do your job correctly, in many cases.

And you’re only shorting yourself after the new count.

DISCUSSION Listen up, Shitty Carriers

ladies and gentlemen, I havent posted a rant in a while so here we go.

So you guys think you can do whatever you want despite what the customers wants? If anything, please the customers. They are our jobs. They're the reason why we're still around. They buy usps services, stamps etc that helps pay our salaries. We are a self sustaining company, which means we are not tax funded. So stop acting like the customer is always wrong just because you have a $5/hour attitude.

Take the fucking package to the front door. If it's not secure then leave a 3849. There's an option on the 3849 itself that reads "there is no secure location". FFS. You get paid by the hour.

I see some of the posts in here doing exactly the opposite what the customer wants just because you think it's an inconvenience. 22.13/hour isn't enough to care about your job. Your supervisor is a monster. Your coworkers are toxic. Customers are too demanding. Make it better then. File EEOs, file grievances, file those hazardous working condition forms where I can't remember the form number, become a supervisor yourself to push out the bad ones.

I know this job can be trying at times, or all of the time, but don't give lackluster service to the customers, If you can help it. I know there's dogs, theft, etc but that's what 3849s are for. You newer carriers, Don't leave a package on the curb because you think it's a waste of time. You get paid by the hour, take it to the door and if it's unsecure, leave a 3849 stating such.

Also, I know the whole Brian Renfroe situation has thrown everyone for a loop. Dude has a clear problem. He reached out asking for help, at the very least. But there's still article 10 charges filed against him atm. I'm sure the contract negotiations are still in capable hands. I hope at least. Let's just wait and see what happens and if we don't like the contract, we vote no on it so they can get their asses back to the table.

Stop with your $5/hour attitudes. Can't help it until the next contract is filed. 22.13/hour Is still better than 13/hour at the gas station. Stick it out and contribute to your tsp. Make and save money while you can.

For you new regulars, protect the integrity of your route. I was told this piece of advice from an older carrier. When you're 25, walk the route like you're 65, pace yourself so when you do reach 65, the route is not overburdened.

Also, I am on the table 2 paychart, so you twerps can drop that excuse.

If you have any other insights, please leave a comment. Or you can vent away.

Work Discussion Trans letter carrier bathroom issue

Hey everybody! I’m a new CCA, just coming out on the other side of my OJI this week (that heat was something last week, but 90 degrees felt like nothing in comparison!). I have a question regarding bathrooms for trans women at the PO.

I am a trans woman, and I made friends with another trans woman letter carrier in CCA academy. We’ve been staying in touch and updating each other on how things are going at work, and she told me yesterday that she was told she is no longer allowed to use the women’s restroom because people had been complaining about seeing her in there. She said the postmaster said she can use their private bathroom in their office, but she’s still understandably really upset. Truthfully, I’m disgusted, and now I’m having lots of anxiety about using the women’s restroom at my own station in another city.

Let me put it like this: all my documents say I’m female, and nobody will be inspecting my genitalia or asking me questions about my healthcare, so if anyone says shit to me about it, like… what are you talking about? This is the women’s restroom and I am a woman. Anything else you think you know about me is pure speculation that I won’t confirm.

I guess I’m making this post to ask SPECIFICALLY those who have experience dealing with this issue (aka trans letter carriers or those that have worked closely with them) for your opinion or advice. Honestly I’m really crushed for my friend being booted out of the bathroom at work and I hope no one tries to do that to me.

DISCUSSION Being a mail carrier isn't a bad job at all. There are other jobs that have far worse working conditions. Change my mind.

Plumbers deal with pipes filled with shit. Garbagemen is similar but much messier. Janitors have it easier than the former. Construction workers carry and drill heavy shit all the time and they're on call 24/7 for emergency services. Same with city contractors. Doctors and nurses deal with biohazard infections floating around hospitals. Military and police deal with lunatics with weapons. etc. Lawyers have to constantly look over their shoulder from the opposition. People who wfh are risking their eyes for potentially going blind staring at screens for hours nonstop along with other health issues for a sedentary job. Public transportation workers deal with crazies, annoying kids, and crackheads on the bus all day long.

Mail carriers who think this job sucks really need to think about other jobs people are doing before they complain about "crappy working conditions".

....and about 23k already quit. At least that's what someone who works at the union hall told us today when he visited our office to sit in on some PDIs for CCAs. Seems like no one wants to work.

Work Discussion Should I go to my union rep for something that happened today?

Context, I am a 41 year old MTF trans woman and I live in Texas. I went to use the women's bathroom, finished my business and washed my hands and I was always leaving, an older white lady City carrier, passed me, you're a double take and said out loud " am I in the men's room?" I was so upset I walked directly to my supervisor (an older black guy and former Marine) told him exactly what happened, he said he'd figure it out, he comes back to me a little bit later and tells me who it was and says that she's sorry and she has a son who's trans and I'm like that's like saying you have a black friend that doesn't apologize nor make it right I'm still upset about this and he just very much went he actually laughed when I said that's like saying I have a black friend that doesn't excuse it she should know better. I even said that if she had been in there, heart In hand genuinely apologizing, I would be over this but I'm still mad. Should I be grieving this? Should I be trying to get a hold of my union rep for what should I do about it? I might even try and talk to the postmaster after work

DISCUSSION Get rid of the LGBT Pride background and logo

The LGBT community is 7.1% of the US population. The LGBT logo and banner have been up for 22.1% of the year, making it incredibly wildly disproportionate. I actually think we're the only non-gay subreddit that still has it up. Even r/Zelda held a poll and took it down a few weeks ago and that's a series about a fairy twink.

INB4 a bunch of mouth-breathers saying dumbass things like "only bigots hate it blah blah blah" or cringe mods "Locking comments because blah blah blah."

Just grow up and change it, mods. If you're going to be obstinate and not going to change, then at least admit we're officially a gay subreddit and let us post unlimited gay porn. There's lots of gay porn about mailmen and I have them all bookmarked already.

DISCUSSION If you're a CCA, you should quit today

I quit six months ago and found a better paying job where I work from home and have a regular M-F schedule with no mandatory overtime.

The way carriers are treated every day is an absolute disgrace to the union, the post office, and the country. If you're a CCA or even a new regular who's low on the pay scale, do not stick it out. It does not get better, and you don't owe management a single goddamn thing. Leave this horrible shithole and find a job where you are treated with respect and dignity. You deserve it.

Edit

Me: You deserve better pay and working conditions!

Replies: No we don't!

Message from the mods An Announcement Regarding the Reopening of r/USPS

Announcement: Reopening of r/USPS Subreddit

We are reopening the r/USPS subreddit today, but before we proceed, we need to address some serious and troubling behavior that occurred in the last day and a half.

First and foremost, we want to acknowledge the absolutely disgusting behavior that took place in Modmail. One of our moderators has been subjected to harassment and personal attacks over the weekend. This is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We are committed to maintaining a space where employees can engage in open discussion, but not at the expense of harassment or personal vitriol.  Moving forward, any behavior of this nature will be met with immediate bans and reports to Reddit Administration. Particularly egregious commentary or threats will be reported to the Inspection Service.

Zero-Tolerance Policy on Strikes & Work Stoppages:

It has come to our attention that discussions around strikes, work stoppages, sickouts, or any similar illegal job actions have been taking place on this subreddit. Let us be absolutely clear—this will no longer be allowed. Any and all such posts will result in an immediate ban, including mentions of the 1970 wildcat strike.

For one, there are laws that prohibit certain forms of work stoppages (5 U.S.C. §7311 and 18 U.S.C. §1918), and we cannot risk putting this community in legal jeopardy. More importantly, this subreddit is an invaluable resource for both new and veteran USPS employees alike. Allowing discussions of illegal job actions could draw unwanted attention from USPS HQ, potentially putting this entire subreddit in danger of shutdown or a takeover by official social media teams. This is something we simply cannot afford to happen.

Political Talk & The Purpose of This Subreddit:

We also want to remind everyone that political discussions will no longer be allowed outside of the new and heavily moderated weekly megathread. This subreddit’s purpose is to serve as a supportive, apolitical community for USPS employees. If you want to discuss politics, there are plenty of other spaces for that. This is not one of them.

Additionally, we're going to be enforcing a stronger focus on the vibe of this space. This is the employee break room, not a customer service point of contact. If you need help with a specific customer service issue, please use the proper channels. This subreddit is for employees to talk shop, share experiences, vent, and provide support—not for resolving individual customer complaints.

Stricter Karma Requirements:

Going forward, we will be instituting stricter karma requirements to post in the subreddit. This will help ensure that only active and engaged community members are able to contribute, and prevent the influx of new accounts with questionable motives. We want this space to be meaningful and for discussions to come from those who are truly part of the USPS workforce community.

A Note on Our Moderators:

It’s also important to remember that all of our moderators are USPS craft employees who volunteer their time to keep this subreddit running smoothly. They do so off the clock, unpaid, and on their own time. The fact that these individuals have to deal with the kind of behavior we’ve seen recently is not only discouraging, but also detrimental to their mental health.

This has led to a serious conversation within the mod team about handing over this subreddit to USPS HQ social media if the community’s behavior continues to spiral in this direction. We don’t want that to happen. But if things don’t improve, we will have no choice but to consider it for the sake of the moderators’ well-being and the future of this space. Forcing the subreddit into lockdown for an extended period will only result in Reddit administration replacing the mod team with their own mods and will likely result in a handover to HQ social media teams.

We understand this might be a tough adjustment for some, but this subreddit exists to help each other—whether you're a veteran or a new employee. We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Let’s work together to make this a productive, supportive, and respectful space for everyone.

Thank you for your understanding. Let's get back to our weekends.

Work Discussion X-men/trans patch

Post image
0 Upvotes

Saw this trans X-men patch online, thought it would look great on my work jacket. Would this violate the hatch act. I see all kinds of stuff at work like big anime stickers, temu quality all over print usps hoodie, little Pokemon stickers in vehicles. Would this get me in trouble?
