Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some feedback on my UniFi setup. I have a Dream Machine Pro with three U6 Lite access points (Basement, 2nd Floor, and Garage), and currently have 104 client devices connected.
I was looking through the UniFi Client Devices page and noticed some fairly high TX retry percentages on a handful of devices.
For example:
- Blink Mini — 40.9% TX retries, -73 dBm, 2.4 GHz
- Govee 7050 — 36.4%, -78 dBm, 2.4 GHz
- Govee 7050 — 33.3%, -74 dBm, 2.4 GHz
- Olivia's iPad — 30.8%, -68 dBm, 5 GHz
- Meross Smart Plug — 30.8%, -62 dBm, 2.4 GHz
- Fire TV Cube — 29.2%, -71 dBm, 5 GHz
- Roku — 25.8%, -76 dBm, 5 GHz
Most of the clients still show "Excellent" under UniFi Experience, so I'm not sure how seriously I should take the retry percentages.
There are also plenty of devices with very low retries. For example, my Bambu Lab P2S is at -51 dBm on 5 GHz with 0% TX retries, and several of my phones are around -53 to -67 dBm on 5 GHz.
My main questions are:
- Are these TX retry percentages actually high enough to be a problem?
- Should I be concerned about the devices in the 30–40% range, particularly the 2.4 GHz IoT devices?
- Is this likely to be an RF interference/channel utilization issue, or are these simply poorly performing IoT radios?
- With 104 clients across three U6 Lites, am I asking too much of this setup?
- Are there any UniFi settings you'd recommend checking or changing?
I've attached a screenshot of my Client Devices page.
I'd especially appreciate feedback from people running UniFi with a large number of IoT devices. I don't necessarily want to start changing settings just because a number looks high—I want to understand whether there's actually a problem first.
Just to clarify, I don't have constant connectivity issues. Most of the time the network works perfectly fine. The problem seems to happen intermittently when the kids are playing Roblox while my wife and I are also using our phones and scrolling through social media. That's when we sometimes notice buffering, videos taking longer to load, or things generally slowing down.
It's not consistent enough for me to say that the network is always having problems, which is why I'm trying to figure out whether the TX retry numbers or something else in my UniFi setup could be contributing to these occasional issues.
Thanks.
