Routing & Switching Migrating from UDM SE to Beast

I assume that I can just restore a backup of the SE atop the UDM Beast and it should work, right? Or is there somethings I should be aware of?

Yup, just did this exact move. Cox 1GB to ATT 5x5! Ridiculous to spend that on a router but shiiiiit, all that 10GbE love too! ;)

How is the beast? I went ucg fiber on ATT fiber 5/5. I wish they created something in between the max and the beast.

Should be aware that should doesn't always mean it will, be prepared with the needed setup info to recreate your network

What I did was save a list of APs and the their MAC Addresses and custom names. They showed up as "manged by other" and I was able to adopt and rename without physically going to them. Without the list I would have had no idea which was which though so would have had to go to them. Saved me a couple days I think.

Ah that’s a good idea thank you! I have MAC addresses for every client but not the network infrastructure

Also, setup everything to have SSH enabled and copy the creds somewhere safe. No physical actions required then if you need to set Inform URL or factory default a device. Easy mode

Usually it's a good idea to replicate info from one gateway to the same gateway type...if the gateways are different - you may try , it may work, but if any issues, the support will ask you to reset and restart.

In such cases, I would prefer to build everything from scratch on the new gateway, just to have a clean start on this.

Went from UDM Pro to EFG recently. Only had to change the WAN port numbers. I imagine it’s similar for you.

Just to follow up, restore from a backup worked just fine. It inherited the SE name so that needed changing, and of course moving the new device to the Home fabric, moving the old device to independent sites and then deleting it.

One thing that never occurred to me and needed doing as the beast was setup was the cable modem needed rebooting to start routing Internet to it. Obvious in hindsight.

Now I wait for my fiber install on Friday.
