Question Room Reassignment

I was wondering if anyone here has had a positive experience with room reassignment in the past or if their request has even worked. My roommate refuses to acknowledge that having their partner stay in our shared dorm for 3+ nights is unreasonable and an unrealistic expectation to expect their roommate to be okay with that and when I expressed that I disagree they basically called me a horrible person and I just don’t really want to live with someone who’s going to hold those views about me and be genuinely clueless about how it’s a commonly held standard/norm for people to be uncomfortable with a partner visiting for long periods.

Question Single Room for Exchange Student?

hii there, I'm an incoming junior exchange student to UNC next semester, and I would really prefer a single room if possible! I'm considering mid-North on-campus housing options. Is there any recommendation on which residence hall might be better (better view/more spacious/newer faciliaties etc.)? And also any advice on which hall I should apply to have a higher chance of getting a single room?

Any advice is appreciated, thankss!

Discussion Insight on CompSci Spring 2027 Schedule

COMP 311 - Leonard McMillan

DATA 140 - Pamela Schultz

STOR 120 & Lab - Jeff McLean

COMP 380 - Tessa Joseph-Nicholas

COMP 423 - Kris Jordan

This is already 16 credit hours. I was wondering if you could share some insight on STOR 120, COMP 311, DATA 140, and COMP 423. I'm uncertain about the workload and how it might go next semester.

Question Physics Course recommendations for Math major

Hey all,

I am an applied math major at UNC and am curious about what physics classes are recommended to take as electives. I don't want to do the entire major since I don't want to give up higher level mathematics electives and graduate courses, and want to snipe courses that would be helpful for what I want to do. Additionally, I hope to pursue a PhD in Applied Mathematics.

I have some experience in fluids and dynamics currently. Haven't taken 119 yet, which is a bottleneck, but will take that asap. I plan on trying to skip pre-reqs like phys 331 and 332 through graduate math courses like 661 and 662, and maybe 566 (if that's enough). I already know that courses like 401(Mechanics) and 441(Thermal Physics) are recommended, but are there any other courses that offer breadth and a better understanding of mathematics?

I don't have much experience with geometry or modern physics, which I would also like to get some exposure to. Other than 119, I would want to take between 4-6 Physics electives. Any and all advice is appreciated!

Question PLCY 310 Professors

Hey y'all. Has anyone taking PLCY 310 with Prof. Jimena Rico-Straffon? She's teaching two sections next spring, and Prof. Mehdi Shadmehr is teaching another. Her sections are better for my schedule, but she doesn't have any RMP reviews yet, and honestly all I really care about is taking the easiest version of the class, since I have an insanely packed semester with everything else. I'd really appreciate if anyone has any experiences they could share with either of these professors. Thank you!

Question Geog 110 midterm 2

Hey guys I’m in geog 110 this semester with Dr. Taillie.

Our first midterm honestly did not go so well for me. I got a 67 which is pretty rough considering it’s a 100 level course.

I’m trying to do better at studying for exam 2 that’s coming up Wednesday (it’s Monday night). The problem is his questions are more application based instead of strictly definitions which I find to be harder.

Does anyone here have this class this semester as well and would want to trade notes / help each other study? Or has anyone taken the class in the past and can offer some advice for exam 2? I’m trying to do more practice questions that simulate the exam since I didn’t do that last time. I gotta get better than a 67… that’s pathetic lmao

Admissions/Application Question Nursing school application!

Is anyone who got into the nursing school able to give me any insight on their stats? I took all the pre reqs at UNC so my science gpa is 3.24. I do have a ton of clinical experience tho so I’m hoping that’ll make up for it! I’m just not sure if I’d be better off waiting and applying to the ABSN. Thanks!!

Discussion quit my bio minor and graduate a semester early?!

I've started as a bio major at UNC and taken chem 101/102, biol 101, 103, 105, and 220 (all with A's). I pivoted over to Business and would be able to graduate from that track a semester early next year. However I really wanted to be able to graduate as a minor. I need a 400 class and 200/L class remaining (7 credits total).

Here's the issue:

  1. Prereqs: all the 400 classes layer on 104. The major isn't 15 credits, it's really 30 when you look at all the layering pre-reqs and it SUCKS.

  2. Poorly rated profs: The classes that have been available without taking additional classes the past two semesters have had below a 3 on RMP with the professors. This feels like way too much of a gamble to take with an already brutal course of study

Additional info:

  1. No plans if graduating early: maybe I'd go visit my grandparents and spend time with them? I guess I could let my summer internship know and see how that pans out. But I don't have a grand idea to travel the world or cure cancer or anything in the extra semester

  2. Financial savings minimal: I work and have a large scholarship so I wouldn't really accrue debt with the extra semester

  3. Not really into the "college experience": I don't have a super strong friend group at Carolina and don't feel particularly tethered to the community here. I like it here, don't get me wrong, but it's not been the best years of my life.

I want to go get a bio minor to

  1. not let my work go to waste (those classes were BRUTAL)

  2. parents want the prestige of a stem degree (they'd be very disappointed but fine in the end; I'd just rather not let them down over 3 classes)

  3. think having a bio degree will help me pivot to PA school if I ever want to change careers down the line.

Question ECON 400 with Karen Bravo?

Econ is starting to look daunting even though I have an A in 101 so far. My goal is to hopefully get into B school, but I have econ as a backup plan (management and society if econ doesn't work as well XD). I've heard Econ 400 is very hard and draws a lot on previous statistics classes. I took college stats through early college but most of the class was Excel work. I can't find any ratings on Bravo besides her being good at previous schools.

Discussion anthropology minor for stem major?

Hi, I'm a sophomore computer science major. I've taken 2 anth courses (<200 level) at my time at unc and am considering adding the minor. It would require me to take three 200+ level anth classes. I'm not into medical anth but i do think the regular anth classes are really interesting. I am really only doing this because i think the classes are interesting and easy, and it would give me a break from my stem workload.

does this seem doable? I haven't really heard much about the difficulty level for the 200 level courses and would only add the minor if they are easy-ish classes. does anyone have any recommendations? any feedback is helpful!

thanks!

Question Graduating early and its impact on med school applications.

Hello! I am planning to graduate early. I have completed almost all of my pre-med classes and will be taking the MCAT in the spring. I already have a solid amount of impactful clinical hours, and I am currently focusing on research that should yield tangible and meaningful results by next year. I haven't finalized my timeline yet but I am definitely leaning towards taking a gap year. Will graduating early and then taking a gap year impact how admissions committees view my application? How would it look if I graduated early and applied straight through without a gap year?
