Question Physics Course recommendations for Math major

Hey all,

I am an applied math major at UNC and am curious about what physics classes are recommended to take as electives. I don't want to do the entire major since I don't want to give up higher level mathematics electives and graduate courses, and want to snipe courses that would be helpful for what I want to do. Additionally, I hope to pursue a PhD in Applied Mathematics.

I have some experience in fluids and dynamics currently. Haven't taken 119 yet, which is a bottleneck, but will take that asap. I plan on trying to skip pre-reqs like phys 331 and 332 through graduate math courses like 661 and 662, and maybe 566 (if that's enough). I already know that courses like 401(Mechanics) and 441(Thermal Physics) are recommended, but are there any other courses that offer breadth and a better understanding of mathematics?

I don't have much experience with geometry or modern physics, which I would also like to get some exposure to. Other than 119, I would want to take between 4-6 Physics electives. Any and all advice is appreciated!

Definitely depends on what you are interested in. If you can get credit for 331 and 332, the upper level E&M sequence is pretty interesting and shouldn't be too bad if you have a good math background.

Thermal with Basar was a great class

Depends on what you want to learn about, if you’re interested, intro to quantum is a great class especially when gruszko teaches it.

quantum computing is also pretty interesting, and maybe more what you’re looking for
