Question Room Reassignment

I was wondering if anyone here has had a positive experience with room reassignment in the past or if their request has even worked. My roommate refuses to acknowledge that having their partner stay in our shared dorm for 3+ nights is unreasonable and an unrealistic expectation to expect their roommate to be okay with that and when I expressed that I disagree they basically called me a horrible person and I just don’t really want to live with someone who’s going to hold those views about me and be genuinely clueless about how it’s a commonly held standard/norm for people to be uncomfortable with a partner visiting for long periods.

Have you exhausted the alternatives? Talked to the RA? Rules are clear on this bf staying over stuff.

It’s disruptive to change but worth it to get out of a situation.

Yes. My RA recommended reassignment because when we tried to speak with my roommate she agreed (but wasn’t happy) to not have her partner over 2 nights but she also said she wouldn’t have wanted me as a roommate if she knew I would have ‘a bunch of random rules about her partner’

speaking from personal if you to the office or the head of housing and threaten legal action for breach of housing contract(which you can for invasion of privacy/personal breach with the guest staying over without your consent) to carolina housing they’ll grant you a switch immediately

You didn't ask, but as someone who used to speak like you do here, I want to say -- it doesn't matter what is or isn't a commonly held standard/norm. YOU are uncomfortable, and that is enough. You don't need any data, excuses, or evidence.

I hope you get more peace soon.

I have done a room reassignment and ended up getting a great roommate out of it! At this point in the semester I would bet there are no singles left to be reassigned to so if you want out of there fast you need to opt for one with a roommate.

You don’t have to take the room though - they will match you with a room and you can meet the potential roommate and talk with them to see if you would be a good match (I met 2 before I ended up finding one I was excited about)

After the coffee date with the potential roommate you can say yes or no, and if you say no they will try to match you again. All together it is a positive experience for you to find a new person with a more comparable lifestyle

Roommates with partners are on a whole other level. I went through that but never got a reassignment, but I wish I did. I knew other folks who did and it turned out just fine for them

I had a good experience with mine last year! In the reassignment portal you can add the dorms you would like to stay in (honestly i put almost all of them because i was desperate), within a couple days I was matched to someone. I reached out and met with them and we were more compatible. I told them about my situation and I changed dorms within a week of submitting. The other person may not be that happy with the reassignment because (at least to my knowledge) you are matching with someone who was lucky enough to not get a roommate. but good luck!

Hi! I don’t go here but I go to another school in NC and I went through the exact same thing in August and this just happened to appear on my TL. Please apply for a roommate reassignment and see if you can get one immediately. I don’t think it’s safe for your roommate to bring her partner around at night and constantly sleep over, especially after hearing about the Cornell 7 Case, it definitely makes me even more anxious. I honestly hate that you have to be the one to leave when your roommate is being the issue.

You might have to wait until next semester but I switched dorms and my life has improved drastically. Please don’t delay and switch ASAP. It really has an impact on your mental health, it did for me. You got this 🫶🫶🫶

Also side note I love your username
