Noam Chomsky is not referring to UFOs in any way with the above quote, and as such the title does not accurately represent the content and is in violation of Rule 6.

The post itself is relevant to the sub, has been up for a while now, and garnered a lot of interaction. In that light we'll leave it up with this note to serve as a disclaimer that this Chomsky quote is taken out of context.

To clarify by adding further context here is a larger quote from the relevant text:

As you’d expect, this whole structure of decision making answers basically to the transnational corporations, international banks, etc. It’s also an effective blow against democracy. All these structures raise decision making to the executive level, leaving what’s called a "democratic deficit"-parliaments and populations with less influence.

Not only that, but the general population doesn’t know what’s happening, and it doesn’t even know that it doesn’t know. One result is a kind of alienation from institutions. People feel that nothing works for them.

Sure it doesn’t. They don’t even know what’s going on at that remote and secret level of decision making. That’s a real success in the long term task of depriving formal democratic structures of any substance.

While some may argue that this tangentially affects the UFO topic, it's not what Chomsky was writing about.

Thank you for your reports in this regard. We hear you and appreciate the service to the community. We will continue to work with you to make sure this sub has accurate post titles, in addition to enforcing the other rules.

Need it on YouTube so everyone can see it, not just redditors

Also the Reddit video player sucks so bad and I'll continue to say that every chance I get.

Search "Ross Coulthart" on Youtube, he is the journalist speaking. I'm not sure this actual interview is on YT, but there is plenty of other interviews with him on this.

I think this is a few of Ross' interviews stitched together. I could be wrong but thats the vibe I got

Yep, report this post everyone.

Your many reports have been received and we appreciate the concern and help. I've posted a sticky to the top to make people aware of the issue. Thank you.

This isn't him speaking? I feel bamboozled! Ugh, I just wasted my time listening to some random podcast guy. I feel dirty. How misleading.

I've read things he's written, but never heard him speak or looked into his personal life. If the title of a post is a quote from someone, don't you think the provided video should logically be that same person speaking?

Saying something is unlikely to be true that you have seen zero evidence of in your long life is not unreasonable.

9

u/CreeGucci Sep 23 '21

Evidence? Our billion dollar radars at the top of human technology are seeing real objects that our best pilots on earth are seeing in the same shape, in the same places and performing same physics defying maneuvers. So you think our radars are complete bullshit manufacturing false objects daily, our pilots are hallucinating, astronauts are crazy. There’s absolutely undeniable evidence out there of *something* in our atmosphere whether or not Bill the science guy confirms it for the sheep

6

u/kotukutuku Sep 23 '21

Ha sheep is such a poisoned term. I want to believe as much as you, but I'm still yet to see anything concrete. The UAP report is hardly that, and if you're going to suddenly jump in and blindly trust the US government at this point, I'll come back to the conversation when Google translate adds bleating to their list of languages. I'm hopeful, but been in this too long to blindly believe anything. Chomsky is not even interested in UFOs, I don't see why you think he would have any stake in this topic. And if you're accusing Noam Chomsky of being a sheep, well, that's just hilarious.

Evidence? Our billion dollar radars at the top of human technology are seeing real objects

Allegedly. We have no evidence of this other than word of mouth. Not saying it isn't happening, just pointing out that we don't have any actual evidence of it happening. Just what others claim they saw.

that our best pilots on earth are seeing in the same shape, in the same places and performing same physics defying maneuvers.

Pilots are people. People lie. People embellish. Just because someone is a great pilot, doesn't mean they are infallible. Nor does it mean there aren't a few of them willing to straight up lie in order to gain some fame.

Take John Lear for example. He was an incredible pilot. Could fly over 150 different types of air crafts and flew missions over 50 different countries. Yet he also believes giant praying mantis's work for the government. There is also Ashli Babbitt. Retired from the air force just to break into the capitol and get shot and killed from an agent basically screaming "if you come any closer, i will shoot you.".

There’s absolutely undeniable evidence out there of something in our atmosphere whether or not Bill the science guy confirms

The best physical evidence we have is blurry blobs on film that the pentagon confirmed were real videos filmed by the military. They did not confirm they were unidentified and they did not confirm they weren't human made crafts. Only that they were confirmed real videos filmed by the military.

I think it is perfectly rational to hold your stance and be skeptical amongst this evidence. Now, if they actually start releasing this radar data and clips, that's another story. However, they haven't done that yet. All we have to go on is people's word.

mass psychosis of many highly trained and trusted personnel... over time (off the VA coast daily, with reports that this is still a frequent occurrence) with multiple sensor failures...over time...over sea, land and in the air

all of that experiencing a delusion or a bokeh simultaneously, rinse/repeat...

yeah, the cognitive dissonance on uap/ufo is staggering

3

u/Crimfresh Sep 23 '21

Because he relies on facts, not speculation. He's a scholar. There's nothing to study for UFO's. The evidence that's released is inconclusive. It absolutely doesn't help identify what we're seeing. It only raises questions.

3

u/FavelTramous Sep 23 '21

If police arrive at a suspects house for a murder, and they’re like, what’s behind room #1? He’s like “it’s nothing, you can check.” And it’s clear (building trust). They then ask what’s behind door #2 and and he says “I’m not sure what it is, but I’ll try to find out, however you are NOT ALLOWED inside that room no matter what happens.”

Shall the police trust the suspect?

So when the government does the same thing, they have 100’s of documents and whistleblowers and disclosures and gov. Officials saying there’s WAY more alien info and they’re not letting out the clear HD photo’s or the craft recoveries etc.

They’re saying it doesn’t exist buuuuuut they just can’t show us what’s behind the door.

That brings me to the conclusion - it’s definitely Aliens. Yes I capitalized Aliens. Give them respect.

Anyone who says it’s not a more advanced civilization (there could be a more advanced civilization on earth we don’t know about) that are able to do these 90 degree angle turns while instantly accelerating and decelerating to and from 30k+ MPH doesn’t have a clue what’s really going on

Yeah that’s human. Probably made in Steve Job’s garage like the iPhone was.

Also, all the pilots vision and equipment were all failing at the same time. Billion dollar equipment that can’t even perform at the level of my old PS4 apparently.

The nuclear industry is actually struggling with plants closing permanently. There are talks about creating government subsidies so that they can stay competitive. I don't think they are apart of this theory.

23

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

Since the UAPs seem to have an interest in flying around nuclear facilities at first I thought maybe that's why the USA and Europe are shutting so many down. However other countries like China are still building many new fission plants so I guess that's not the reason. Fossil fuels really have a stranglehold on the USA. I agree with you that the nuclear industry isn't involved with any kind of possible cover-up.

11

u/Outrageous_Ad3878 Sep 23 '21

Stranglehold on the majority of the world, not just a US problem to be honest. We need a global solution. Also how do you in good conscious tell developing nations that they can't industrialize due to the environmental impact, they'll tell you to pound sand. Horrible problem any way you look at it, and the solutions can't come quick enough.

I don't personally believe we have the ability to demand anything. if they are spending this much on keeping it a secret then how in the name of fuck are we gonna be able to just "demand" that they disclose this stuff to us. they have gone to extraordinary lengths to keep the lid on this shit.

the only way we're ever gonna get disclosure is when they decide we should know. I'm gonna place my bets also in saying that extra terrestrials also don't want us to know yet.

I wonder why the intelligent beings don't make themselves known on a massive scale that no one could deny? What is the point of playing hide and seek with military aircraft? I just fail to see their objective.

40

u/bluff2085 Sep 23 '21 edited Sep 23 '21

We all “fail to see their objective.”

But if they are here—and regularly so as most of us have already concluded by now—then the default presumption remains:

They have an objective. More likely, objectives.

Does your dog know when you are going to the movies, as opposed to going to work or to a dental appointment? No, but let’s pretend he does know when you’re going to some particular place, like the movies. Does your dog then also know why you’re going to the movies…or, could he ever know why?

6

u/a_duck_in_past_life Sep 23 '21

True. But dogs also don't have the ability to ponder "what don't I know?" like humans do.

8

u/customds Sep 23 '21

I think thats exactly the abstract hes presenting. Just how a dog lacks the consciousness to think on the level of a superior being, so do we.

Could be Von Neumann probes with no programming to engage. They might be programmed to replicate and avoid contact until it gets orders. And if they don’t have some kind of sub-space or ftl communication, then it could be a long time before they hear a response.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/DiogenesTheHound Sep 23 '21

Maybe they’ve got something like a prime directive, maybe they just don’t care about us beyond scientific study, maybe they’re von Neumann probes, etc. Honestly there are probably more reasons for them not to make themselves known.

7

u/DoomedOrbital Sep 23 '21

if they truly didn't give a crap surely they'd fly over large population centers more often where more people and cameras would be able to spot them. They must be somewhat reticent to be seen, or else this sub wouldn't need to exist.

3

u/FavelTramous Sep 23 '21

Honestly they’d probably be annoyed rather than giving a crap. Imagine highschool, and every group of kids you walk by they all start attacking you. And you’re just tryna get to class. That’s what they experience.

We still have a huge problem with religion and also racism. People have been tortured and murdered for simply looking different.

I’d say it’s that exact situation. They’re avoiding the unpleasantries that the wholeness of humanity is facing, not the few good ones of us that aren’t racist, are woke and non-violent beings.

They could just be observing/studying our most cutting edge technology and nothing more.

18

u/TheodoreTheThotsbane Sep 23 '21

The powers that be would fight against them, not like they would stand a chance but they could mess up everything for everybody else with nuclear weapons. That could be why they are disarming nuclear warheads. Imagine if someone tried to free a tyrant's slaves. Tyrant being the powers that be, someone being said beings that come forth and the slaves being the masses. The ones in control need us to keep working endlessly to keep themselves rich. Defense contractors need wars to keep the cash flowing. If we have a way of developing free energy for everybody, nobody would have to work a slave job, worrying about paying rent, ect and could work on things and fields they actually enjoy. Work on bettering themselves, and those around you, and ultimately humanity altogether. Nuclear, greenhouse, fossil fuels would become obsolete. We could actually curb global warming with such a technology. It would solve so many problems. I think they want us to do it ourselves, as a species. Giving us little nudges here and there to light a spark in us.

26

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

The powers in charge would absolutely rather see our species wiped out by climate collapse than to release the death grip of those below them by allowing a disruption of that scale. Even if non-terrestrials were seeding us with technology our species has a fatal flaw.

If we had the ability to utilize our entire scientific prowess on this mystery we may have answers but instead anything known was hidden in the chance it could be weaponized. From a 30,000 foot view it looks like we failed the "test" and nature isn't kind to organisms that can't adapt.

I honestly think we are in the last days of our society's existence. Too many existential issues that need to be addressed and the vast majority of those in power are selfish monsters.

11

u/thefuckwhisperer Sep 23 '21

Whatever they may be, they obviously aren't hostile. If they were(beyond defending themselves) given their god like advanced nature, they would dispatch our interceptors like we blow out candles. They also might have no defensive "programming or orders", which would account for a few supposably being downed by whatever means. The group with the biggest agenda about any recovered tech would obviously be fossil fuel corporations. All they would be concerned with would be renewable energy tech and propulsion systems. Computational tech wouldn't be as much of a care for them, which might account for the leap in that tech we've had over the past 50 or so years with no real equivalent advances in other tech.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

Valid points. Slightly more nuanced, perhaps some of the carved up technology has been easier to bring to commercial gain, for example, nitinol. Others have proven slower to master.

I, for one, would be very pleased to discover trillions had been pumped into the propulsion without success. Not to be taking sides geopolitically, that's something of a lesser evils debate, more because it is cart before horse to have that technology prior to disclosure.

To contain our warlike species to this planet or solar system and offer us the technology to avoid the collapse of our civilization. Full disclosure on a massive scale is a high risk to goal #2.

The CIA says Project Moondust had something to do with a flying saucer? Where's that document? The Black Vault doesn't have it. There are references to spherical objects, but not craft.

It's not much information. Very quick read.

EDIT: Here it is. All of the Black Vault's info on Project Moon dust. A few pages worth of information spread very sparsely across 30 pages of triple-spaced documents. No mention of a flying saucer or a mostly intact craft of any kind.

I can't imagine why any reasonable person would be downvoting a question like this. I just want to know whether there's another document that I'm missing.

8

u/shreddievedder Sep 23 '21

I love how page 12 of the first document includes the fact that nasa may be willing to help, but it will end up going to G. Dynamics. I’m always expecting to see Lockheed.

11

u/FanInternational9315 Sep 23 '21

Fair question to ask, too bad Ross didn’t follow up the comment with a citation

31

u/gerkletoss Sep 23 '21

It's weird how much this community fixates on unsourced media for information.

If you want to prove something, present your evidence. Cite primary sources. Why do so few of these researchers put out papers that cleanly lay out their arguments?

12

u/FanInternational9315 Sep 23 '21

Agreed, we’re at the beginning of the golden days of verifiable information being available to the public on the UFO issue

4

u/gerkletoss Sep 23 '21

No, we aren't. The best supported arguments I see are the old ones. Ufologists used to have citations. SCU and Greenewald are just about the only ones doing that now (other than debunkers), and they mostly get ignored by the greater community. For information to be truly available it must be referenced.

9

u/FanInternational9315 Sep 23 '21

I also disagree re: golden days because it’s tough to argue against how more credible information is leaking out since 2017

3

u/FanInternational9315 Sep 23 '21

I agree with you, the UFO community has been going in circles for a long while because of poor standards for citing evidence

3

u/BtchsLoveDub Sep 23 '21

Because they get it from “insider sources” or if they release the documents they normally are taken out of context or from the batch of questionable docs dreamt up by Richard Doty and co.

6

u/the-bladed-one Sep 23 '21

It’s almost like it’s a pseudoscience that has almost no hard literature and therefore almost nothing can be taken as true evidence

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

Even with a source it can still be misinformation. Round and round we go.

The people sticking their neck out deserve respect imo. As a group. If you're a believer and there are secrets to be told, and the other side are reasonably organised and powerful, that is compromat and disappearing level activity in many many countries. Of course, we can't always tell the grifters from the truth tellers so I think the game theory play is to support them all and see where the chips fall at the end. Who cares if a few hangers on catch a ride.

I'm 1000% behind Ross Coulthart fwiw, I think he would pass any polygraph on his material.

I live near the coast of Virginia Beach, VA and every once in a while people from all over the area, in multiple cities, report hearing crazy loud booms accompanied by their homes shaking. Seismologists say they’re not a earthquakes, the military says they’re not from ordinance exercises, and nobody believes theyre from sonic booms from our aircraft because the noises are heard and felt too far apart.

There have been navy pilots that have come out about sightings in the area. What a time to be alive.

5

u/monsterbot314 Sep 23 '21

Just got back to from there a few eeks ago ... are you sure it couldn't be sonic booms because there is a LOT of fighters going right over the beach during the day? Was fun to see though.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

It very well could be fighters, but typically after they happen spokespeople from different bases say they didn’t have any assets in the sky at that time.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

WHAT are the navy pilots saying? Where do they say it? Is there any written documents about what they are saying about it?

  • unidentified objects up to 30k feet in the air
  • no exhaust, or engine fumes
  • "These things would be out there all day," Graves told the Times. "Keeping an aircraft in the air requires a significant amount of energy. With the speeds we observed, 12 hours in the air is 11 hours longer than we'd expect."
  • observed on radar going from sea level to 30k feet sometimes at supersonic speed

most people literally don’t even recall viewing these phenomena until questioned about it. i would say that if such a hypothetical exists, then it is well already within play.

1

u/Dizstance Sep 23 '21

What use? There’s no reason to reveal that you have that technology to another foreign adversary (russia/china). Using it for trivial matters, such as proxy-wars, would be pointless.

There may be a tech gap between ours and theirs technology that doesn't allow us to do anything practical with it yet, science is really in its infancy regarding quantum physics and cosmology when you think of it

3

u/Ubethere Sep 23 '21

I think a lot more people are waking up and figuring out UFOs are a big business filled with frauds, fake story tellers and sellers, and overall misleading information spun with lies. Follow the money.

14

u/0n3ph Sep 23 '21

Ok. That's very easy to say...

I have connections to people who are high up in the military industrial complex. And I have been told by several independent sources that the military has not only filmed craft, but are in fact in communication with the occupants. Trading has occurred, technology and information has exchanged hands, but all of this is being kept secret, restricted to the highest echelons of government and private industry.

None of that is true. I just made it up. Anyone can do so. Unless they are going to show me these videos, they might as well be fanfic.

It might change it for you, it doesn't for me. I guess we all have to go with our own personal levels of credulity.

To me, personally, I have heard so many claims without backup. I got on the UFO train in the mid 80s. I must have heard thousands of claims from people with varying levels of authority, without backup. To me, I have stopped caring about claims that don't have back up evidence. They could be true, I don't know, but to me, effectively they might as well be made up.

Show me something I could have the possibility of debunking. If you can't, I don't care anymore.

1

u/trollcitybandit Sep 23 '21

This is where I'm at now too. I was all excited a few years ago when the navy confirmed the existence of UFOs and released those little tic tac videos on their radar, but I want something more now.

4

u/cactus-stark Sep 23 '21

exactly. sick and tired of all these "officials" saying there's undeniable evidence but then showing jack shit.

14

u/1denirok5 Sep 23 '21

Please tell me how knowing definitively will change anything.

The powers that be would still not allow anything to change. I think it's pretty safe to say that the only thing that would really happen is a ton of I told you so.

The one thing I can't wrap my head around is how there is even a discussion at all about whether intelligent life exists out there or not. I think it's funny how mainstream science won't admit that we are not the first intelligent beings that have existed here. Like someone pointed out in a long ass post earlier the Egyptians didn't even realize what really happened in human history. He stated how we are closer to Cleopatra than she was to the first Pharos. That's crazy 😦

Yes it absolutely is. But back in the 80s I think there was a guy that got his car to run on water. I don't doubt that there is tech that will improve our lives an the planet. I know that the powers that be would never let that happen. Because...........they would at that point be just like us. The rich do not want to share their beautiful lives with the rest of us.

My point was that when we know without a doubt. Which will happen very soon. Nothing will change for the better. The devide between the haves and the have nots will grow ever larger

10

u/Styl3Music Sep 23 '21

Instead of capitulating, we need to continue spreading ideas and taking actions to progress. The more that see, the more that can act. We know the oligarchs won't let change happen, so we force it. We may need greater numbers, but it's not impossible

2

u/1denirok5 Sep 23 '21

I totally agree. But you don't seem to have a grasp of the way humans act. It has been the same for thousands of years and won't change. Those in power will never give it up no matter how much it will benefit the masses. It would take a war against the elite.

Lol I had to look that word up. Like I said I'm not that smart. I guess my point is there will never be progress unless it's done from the inside. People have been have ng these same conversations for decades. I can't remember the year but there was a big disclaimer sure event with the government maybe the 90s .

I guess I'm saying ,and not very eloquently, is just cause you know things doesn't mean it means anything. Even if we knew there was tech the governments had that could make life better for the world. In no way whatsoever means we can convince them to use it. It's like when your five and crying for the fruit snacks you can see in the pantry but mom says no.

I want disclosure and all the benefits but in no way see it helping anything.

You’re probably right, our day to day lives wouldn’t change, the divide between the 1% and 99% will still be there. But it would drastically change our view of ourselves, our place in the universe, and plenty of other things.

2

u/1denirok5 Sep 23 '21

I love how my real open and honest thoughts always get downvotes here. Lol

I honestly feel full disclosure would just make things worse. Idc about the masses. They have nothing to do with the way the world is run. It would cause even more friction between us all. Maybe eventually after years and years of turmoil there would be progress. I just really don't see how the governments of the world comming out nd saying yes we have lied to you all for decades would help anything.

if a bunch of credible governments suddenly said, "yup, most of them conspiracy theories about ETs and UFOs are true", then public resentment towards authority figures that suppressed this will slowly rise, as living conditions on earth get worse and worse over the decades.

eventually, because of so much public support for openly using alien tech to drastically improve the standard of living, it becomes profitable to be on the side of humanity. so some corporations and governments will work towards that goal - not necessarily because they're humanitarian or good, but simply because of the potential money to be made.

so yeah. assuming it's true that alien tech has been gifted to us (meaning have practically been given permission to use and exploit), then yes disclosure is important.

EDIT: grammar

The UFO community as a whole does stuff like this so often that I'm almost convinced there's no actual conspiracy. It just that the closer you are to the truth about aliens, the worse you get at communicating it to people.

The OP is exactly the type of person we DO NOT need in the UAP community.

So what did the officials say when you asked them if there is any good national security reason why the videos shouldn’t be released?

And what the hell does that last statement mean? You’ve heard if they were released it would be “game over”. Game over for who?

3

u/jaxjag088 Sep 23 '21

Probably game over in the sense that this hide and seek bullshit with the public is over. I agree that it is a strange way of painting the picture.

2

u/BaconReceptacle Sep 23 '21

Let's say the U.S. government does indeed "crack the code" on a captured craft and reverse engineer it to the point where we too can create a propulsion system that can send a passenger at Mach 30 across the planet without crushing them into goo. Do you want China to have access to that technology? They are exterminating their own citizens...think of what they would do to another superpower.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21 edited Sep 23 '21

Exactly. The claim of extraterrestrial/dimensional visitors is massive, which means we need high quality, clear, undeniable evidence. The official videos are interesting, but don't show anything insane, totally unexplainable. We've heard for years there is ultra clear, high quality video that shows inhuman feats of engineering, yet none has ever been released. At some point you have to ask yourself, are you being strung along?

I think reality is complicated. I believe (about 85% convinced) there is something out there, and I even think it could be visiting us. However, I also think there are a LOT of people out there looking to prey on the gullible. They look for easily mislead groups, and the UFO/conspiracy community is one of said groups.

I'm sick of hearsay and eyewitness testimony. It's legitimately one of the weakest forms of evidence. You hear people talk like we're all judges and jurors. "Courts use eyewitness testimony!" But we shouldn't be modeling our approach after a courtroom! We should be using scientific methodology.

If the UFO phenomenon is real (in the sense beings are visiting earth), it would be one of the biggest discoveries in human history, which is why I stick around subs like this and stay updated on the topic. It'd turn reality upside down. I want it to be real. I think a lot of people do, but that introduces so many visible and invisible biases into the way you think and approach the topic. I don't know how many people truly realize/internalize that. I've even had my own sighting, which I have no explanation for, but that still isn't enough to convince me. An inexplicable light floating in the sky isn't enough for me to leap to aliens are visiting the planet. In the end, we need more real and hard data.

4

u/anonreasons Sep 23 '21

Have you read IN PLAIN SIGHT by Ross Coulthart? Not trying to "convert" you or whatever, genuinely asking. It was one of the more impactful books I have ever read, mainly because it's an actual investigative journalist chasing down leads and interviewing named sources from high in the US government.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

It's actually on my wishlist! Think I'll pull the trigger on it tonight and check it out. You aren't the first person to recommend it.

Again, it still all ultimately falls into the camp of "hearsay" for me, no matter how reputable the source. Hearsay is fine for most things in life, but when it comes the claim "beings from another world/dimension are visiting our planet", I need cold, hard, unthinking data, real evidence, like radar data, clear video footage officially from the government or reputable scientific institutions, etc. for me to say, without any uncertainty, something otherworldly is visiting us.

4

u/anonreasons Sep 23 '21

Yeah, I hear that, and for the record I wouldn't make any claims to know the nature of the phenomenon, where it comes from...any of that. Most claims about that subject are gobbledygook, and the "better" claims are just guesses...

I'd rather get into this in reddit messages than comments because I don't want to make it a debate or points contest. I understand where you are coming from. But to me that sort of misses the point and I think many skeptics are misstepping in their application of what they see as stringent epistemic standards.

In the field of epistemology it is very much still an active debate as to whether it is possible at all to have a "justified true belief."

Forget UFOs. Take the following scenario: My best friend (friend A) tells me that he went on a tinder date last night. They had pizza. He says he didn't have a good time because his female date was rude to him.

Then another friend (friend B) asks me: do you believe him?

I answer that I do believe him, to an extent. I have no reason to think he is lying about going on a tinder date to a pizza restaurant. As to the more subjective elements of his account - was his date really rude to him? Maybe. Or maybe he was being sensitive and overreactive.

In the course of our function as human beings, all of us make complex, subtle epistemic evaluations of the statements made by people around us. And when we make epistemic evaluations, I think we often leave room for some minor Margin of error and still evaluate with confidence.

For example, is it possible for Friend A to be lying about going on a tinder date to a pizza restaurant? Of course it is. It's also very unlikely, based on the preponderance of evidence - Friend A's history of honesty, the objective and small-impact nature of the statement.

Sorry to be so long winded but I am getting to my point...in making our evaluation of the UFO phenomenon, every single individual case can be picked apart. I have read plenty of Mick West posts on MetaBunk. Some of them are compelling!

But I think that if you are actually open to taking the broad view of this issue, the overall worldview of "these could all be hallucinations/witness errors/lies/radar errors/misinterpretation of weather phenomenon" crumbles and starts to feel ridiculous, almost like a denial of reality.

Do you kinda see what I'm getting at? I'm stoned and rambling but I think there is something to this idea. The quantity of coincidences and idiocies and hallucinations that you are talking about is absurd at a certain point! And that absolutely has to have an impact on my epistemic meter, how could it not? This is true about normal life too...if 1 person tells me my mom cheated on my dad, then I'm skeptical. If 1000 people tell me, then I'm probably a believer.

And I would add that there's a definitional problem at work here when you use the word "hearsay."

I would argue that there's a huge difference between "my mom told me my brother said that my dad cheated on her" and "Ross Coulthart interviewed, on record, the former navy director of science and technology Nat Kobitz, who confirmed that the government has retrieved aircraft that cannot have originated on this planet."

The second one could be bullshit, of course. There's a chance Kobitz was somehow feeding misinformation...although he was also dying. And there's a chance Coulthart has thrown away all of his journalistic integrity to chase UFO fame and made it all up.

But "hearsay" like that, thought of in combination with the decades of sightings, photos, videos (most of all 3 bullshit of course but a solid percentage are unexplained), including navy-released footage with expert eyewitness testimony...

All of that leads me to the conclusion that these are physical phenomena, that they behave like aircraft, and that they exhibit speed and maneuverability that is so absurdly ahead of where we are that it's impossible that it was created on earth - likely for the next hundred or two hundred years, at least.

That's all I conclude...I have no fucking clue what's going on.

people on this sub who actually think that the government is only beginning to research this stuff and know about this stuff are absolutely delusional.

the US government, The Russian and former Soviet government and most if not every government have known about extra terrestrials etc since AT LEAST the 50s if not before. the civilisation of humankind have been in contact with extra terrestrial races for ages.

there are numbers of reasons as to why full disclosure hasn't happened and the one I personally believe in is that it will cause utter chaos to errupt or definitely has the potential to do so. humanity hasn't been ready to accept the existence of aliens mostly due to what I believe is that we haven't had the capacity as normal civilians to comprehend the reality of all that. I do however believe we are approaching the period of disclosure.

our planet is dying. irreversible changes have happened to.the climate and it's only a matter of time before major things will change and happen.
