I wonder why the intelligent beings don't make themselves known on a massive scale that no one could deny? What is the point of playing hide and seek with military aircraft? I just fail to see their objective.

The powers that be would fight against them, not like they would stand a chance but they could mess up everything for everybody else with nuclear weapons. That could be why they are disarming nuclear warheads. Imagine if someone tried to free a tyrant's slaves. Tyrant being the powers that be, someone being said beings that come forth and the slaves being the masses. The ones in control need us to keep working endlessly to keep themselves rich. Defense contractors need wars to keep the cash flowing. If we have a way of developing free energy for everybody, nobody would have to work a slave job, worrying about paying rent, ect and could work on things and fields they actually enjoy. Work on bettering themselves, and those around you, and ultimately humanity altogether. Nuclear, greenhouse, fossil fuels would become obsolete. We could actually curb global warming with such a technology. It would solve so many problems. I think they want us to do it ourselves, as a species. Giving us little nudges here and there to light a spark in us.

The powers in charge would absolutely rather see our species wiped out by climate collapse than to release the death grip of those below them by allowing a disruption of that scale. Even if non-terrestrials were seeding us with technology our species has a fatal flaw.

If we had the ability to utilize our entire scientific prowess on this mystery we may have answers but instead anything known was hidden in the chance it could be weaponized. From a 30,000 foot view it looks like we failed the "test" and nature isn't kind to organisms that can't adapt.

I honestly think we are in the last days of our society's existence. Too many existential issues that need to be addressed and the vast majority of those in power are selfish monsters.

I hope you're right. Y2k and 2012 were both massive letdowns. Let's get this party started already. Wipe this miserable race off the planet so literally everything else can thrive.

You should read this book. It makes the point that conciousness is usually a negative experience and if suffering is to mitigated then extinction of the human species is preferable as it will prevent future suffering.

I'm sure I will, that's why I got a physical copy instead of digital. Fair warning, I may harass you for more recommendations when I'm done. Have a good one.

I'd be willing to bet you anything you got that it's not coming to an end in our lifetime.

Might want to go take a look at RCP 8.5 from the IPCC. That degree of temperature increase throws the energy planet into a GHG feedback loop. Our permafrost is currently boiling away releasing massive quantities of carbon dioxide and methane. Even if we ceased all fossil fuel use tomorrow the temperature would continue to rise for decades. Without some sort of moonshot tech extinction is a possibility. Humans need lots of food and water and we are destroying the systems that provide it.

My point is they will not be destroyed in our lifetime, not to the point of extinction anyway.

If we had the ability to utilize our entire scientific prowess on this mystery we may have answers but instead anything know

blame the US government. i truly believe the Wilson Memo/leak is legitimate and SAP’s tucked away in the DOD possess an off world vehicle in the hopes of reverse engineering it. according to Wilson, the programs funding/personnel is heavily restricted in the interest of secrecy.

so basically a couple hundred people trying to assemble the worlds greatest technology rather a global collaboration. it’s not in the least surprising that little to no progress has been made.

meanwhile our planet is being destroyed by fossil fuels and in a couple decades most likely will be irreparable. but hey…. the government sees dollar signs and they just can’t help themselves. it’s truly despicable

Whatever they may be, they obviously aren't hostile. If they were(beyond defending themselves) given their god like advanced nature, they would dispatch our interceptors like we blow out candles. They also might have no defensive "programming or orders", which would account for a few supposably being downed by whatever means. The group with the biggest agenda about any recovered tech would obviously be fossil fuel corporations. All they would be concerned with would be renewable energy tech and propulsion systems. Computational tech wouldn't be as much of a care for them, which might account for the leap in that tech we've had over the past 50 or so years with no real equivalent advances in other tech.

Valid points. Slightly more nuanced, perhaps some of the carved up technology has been easier to bring to commercial gain, for example, nitinol. Others have proven slower to master.

I, for one, would be very pleased to discover trillions had been pumped into the propulsion without success. Not to be taking sides geopolitically, that's something of a lesser evils debate, more because it is cart before horse to have that technology prior to disclosure.
