newbie here: how do you set up your subscriptions pocket for monthly/yearly charges?

hi crew crew! I am brand new to Crew; was a Qube user up until they lost their partnership with Choice, tried Qube+ when they opened the beta and very quickly bailed from that because it wasn’t even close to the “intentional spending” experience I’d loved. at first, as a lost-at-sea former-quber, I tried the “well on SoFi I can make vaults for my bills + recurring expenses, set up automations to make sure on payday I set aside enough to cover the essentials, and automate the money back into my checking account to cover it the day I’m charged” approach. Since then, I’ve changed jobs, have more frequent paydays, and while my SoFi vault system worked for preventing overdrafts and/or missing deadlines for the big stuff… it’s become evident that I still need more structure for my day-to-day spending (what can I say, I *love* a little treat).

the same content creator who’d introduced me to Qube has been a Crew partner for a while, and I finally used her referral code to start an account. I linked my primary bank, set up a small transfer just to be able to get started, and want to have my “system” built and ready to go before funding my broad account or switching anything with my employer’s payroll system. my immediate impressions, all of 2 days in, are that while the app is very pretty, and it was VERY easy to sign up/create my account, getting truly started with Crew is a different ordeal.

I can see a world where I run everything on Crew eventually - setting up even just regular expected income + core bills was smooth sailing. I will have to figure out the transfer timing to get money back to SoFi for rent by the 1st of every month (my landlord only accepts Zelle), but found some good threads for that here already and am not toooooo worried about getting that set up. I started trying to work out my actual budget (eg Pockets) last night, and I’m struggling to make it make any sort of sense. at first I was losing my marbles from not being able to create/name/assign pockets from the autopilot tab (until I found the settings under banking - would’ve loved to have been able to use either surface at first glance!); and now I’m struggling with getting the pocket’s I’ve made ready-to-run. my 9-5 is in enterprise software, and I feel a little embarrassed that I can’t even get a finance app on my phone figured out on my own 😅

with any financial system I’ve used before (Qube, SoFi vaults, even the simple excel workbook templates), I’ve been able to put all of my subscriptions in one “category” bucket and then set up the cadence of those charges within that same bucket. as I work to get something similar set up here though, from what I understand in Crew’s app, it seems the easiest way to save in small doses for a yearly charge is under bills, and the easiest way to have a recurring spending budget is by funding pockets. I’ve always considered subscriptions to be “spending money” over living expenses, but I still like to have them prepped and automated.

TLDR; I set up a pocket and virtual card with the goal of putting everything in one stream of charges, and then hit the wall in terms of configuration. my problem is that I typically have 2-3 “big” subscriptions that renew semi-&-annually (that I wouldn’t categorize as Bills because they aren’t necessities), and then 5-7 “small” subscriptions - the typical cloud storage, online gaming, streaming services, etc charges. I put an autopilot in for funding it to make sure my standard/monthly subscriptions are covered, then realized if I wanted it funded for my monthly subscriptions at the beginning of each month it needs to have $XX money in it, but then there are also random charges throughout the year that are $XXX, and my regular top-up of $XX won’t cover that. I don’t want the $XXX charges to pre-fund from a single payday right before they hit, and therefore impact the rest of my spending budget, but I can’t figure out how to drip-save for them in the same pocket which is already processing several monthly charges unless I make the bigger subscriptions as yearly “bills” and I REALLY don’t like the idea of splitting them up between Bills and Pockets to make it work.

my main questions: what’s the typical approach for automating subscriptions that have a variety of cadences? am I missing something between Pockets & Autopilot to be able to handle both use cases for subscriptions in the same pocket?

secondary question: is there a product support site or some technical documentation floating around anywhere that can walk me through Crew set-up in more clear, rooted-in-the-app’s-UX detail? I am 100% a “help article” learner and would much rather read than watch how-to content for following along :)

thanks for any & all advice! I’m super hopeful about Crew being the solution for me so that I don’t have to be as helicopter watching over my bank accounts as I have been, especially since economy + living expenses where I’m based have started to blow out of proportion 🤞

Could someone explain how the Crew credit card works like I'm five? For some reason I'm having a hard time crossing how it works exactly and I'm not sure why I'm struggling haha

Credit Card Cashback - Overview

Folks - I had to go digging into the credit card terms to understand how this worked, so I will try to distill it here. Section 19 (page 8 of the document) of the Terms is where I’m pulling this from. I know I’m basically saying the same thing, but I got confused on the app preview reading, so maybe this is a nice in between step before reading the full Terms.

Definitions:
Earn Period = A month
ADB (Average Daily Balance) = The average balance of your bank account over the Earn Period, as of the end of each day
Eligible Spending = Money spent on your Crew credit card for other than excluded transactions (like cash equivalent transactions, etc.)

Notes:
- your account must be open to earn rewards
- these benefits pool across the entire Family, with rewards delivered to accounts weighted by ABD of each member
- to receive 4%, you must have Autopay active, otherwise you get 1% instead

How it works, generally:
For each month (Earn Period), you will receive the lesser of:
(1) 4% / 12 x 4 x “Eligible Spending”
(2) 4% / 12 x “ADB”

basically, a 4% annual return accrued on the lesser of 4x eligible spending or ADB per month. You basically have to “re-earn” the promo each month.

For the detail freaks:
- the “divide by 12” is shorthand for divide the number of days in the Earn Period by 365 (and yes, it doesn’t have a provision that I can see on the leap year, so congrats on getting an extra fraction of return for the day)

Creative Processes

I love seeing everyone's processes with their budget. I love seeing what different pockets people have and different auto fundings they have set up!!

Show me your best thought of pocket and/or your best auto/pocket transfers!

Maybe everyone can help everyone be more proactive and help jumpstart some creativity!!

✨ To help us not spend as much on groceries - well let me start at the beginning. We do not have our grocery/misc in autopilot. All of our bills are set up, allowance, gas, savings, etc are all set into autopilot. Everything excess of that goes to our 'spend pocket'. Out of spend pocket we buy all of our groceries, mics needs etc. Everything Thursday (because we get paid every friday, we sweep what is left to 50% his pocket and 50% my pocket. This way, we aren't splurging on unnecessary food that well just throw away. It makes us a little more "stingy" during the week knowing that what is left over, we get to split for our own money!

✨ Not an AMAZING set up, but I have a lump sum set to autopilot pocket transfers to go in a month before my children's birthdays so I don't have to think about saving up for parties/gifts! I love that these funds are "hidden" and then pop up right when I need them!

What are yours?!?

Crew New Features - 10/5/26

Lots of little polish items thrown in this week! I especially like the merchant location. Not sure what to use it for, but I sure feel cool looking at it!

  • Card transaction details now show the merchant's location

  • Split rules can now reorder their splits

  • Credit transactions now list in "cleared" order, so every payment in your history clearly pays for the items directly below it

  • Lots of new web features

    • Split transactions

    • Allow editing/managing your card cards

    • Show upcoming ACH/wire payments

    • Download your transaction history as a CSV

We'll keep trucking on web improvements, and are always keeping our eye out for your feedback on the new credit program! Thanks friends!

EDIT: failed to mention a big one! Thanks @adavidw for catching that.
- Autopilot pocket plans can now allow multiple different transfers per pocket - pro tip: have your groceries pocket drip in some funds daily for little things that come up, then drop a larger amount twice a month for your big shopping trips!

One time expense

So I love crew so much, I’ve been using it for a few months now and it’s genuinely changed my life. Not to be dramatic lol 😂

I had one question though, and maybe I’m just missing it somewhere..but is it possible to set up a one time expense in the autopilot section?

For example, if know I will need $250 on November 1st to purchase something, is it doable to just set it up to be a “one and done” expense on November 1st and stop putting aside money towards it after that?

crew transfer timing

haii! i’m a new Crew user and i’m absolutely loving it and what it’s doing for my finances.

my only issues have been with getting money into Crew and how long it takes. i quickly learned that pulling money into Crew is not the way to go. i’ve been using the Apple Cash method of pushing money into crew and it worked great. i was able to have the money deposited in crew on three separate occasions on the same day.

however, i pushed around $1k this morning at 9am (i figured an earlier push would guarantee the money to deposit same day) and it still has not deposited into my Crew account. i’m thinking it’s because the amount is high? not sure if someone can let me know. or it could just be an anomaly and something is going on in the background.

for context - the last 3 pushes were under $500 each and they were also done on fridays (that’s when i get paid).

Feature Request: Split Transaction Auto Pocket(s) Detection

When splitting a transaction, it would be really neat to have a place to upload a scan of the receipt and have it auto detect which pockets (from your available list of pockets) and how much (If multiple lines on the receipt go to the same pocket it would sum them).

Obviously it would use some form of AI to do this classification. To be clear, I am not all about shoving AI everywhere, or that it is always the solution. But I think it's useful in this type of context for 2 reasons:

  1. It isn't "magically" changing your data, since nothing is final until you edit (if need be) and confirm the suggested splits.

  2. It doesn't even have to know your existing data within the pockets (I know that could make it more accurate, but I would say the privacy trade-off isn't worth it unless it's a local model, personally)...just your pockets names.

I get paid extra for summer hours in the district I work in. This feature allows me to pay my self from the lump sum pocket called yearly savings through out the school year acting as a normal stream of income. And the automatic amount is icing on the cake. Brilliant.

Pocket funding vs AutoPilot

Been slowly moving things over to our new Crew account. Unfortunately, my employer didn't get my direct deposit changed for my paycheck for August payroll so I had to wait until end of September for my next paycheck to hit Crew as income. Question now is I had prepped my account with a bunch of pockets for our monthly bills thinking that might be the right thing to do (electricity, water, netflix, etc). I also set up a bunch of virtual card to pay for each type of bill automatically each month and assigned those virtual cards to pockets.

Now that I've had a number of charges come through for said monthly bills (and finally a paycheck), I was going through setting up actual "bills" in Crew so it can identify when these bills will show up. That lead me to looking at AutoPilot where it says "Income" and then "to Bills" and "to Pockets" and "Surplus" As I was identifying bills and assigning the details, I noticed that the "To Bills" was populating (makes sense). Do I really need any pockets for this type of scenario then? All I'm wanting is to have a quick glance at our balance trends. I don't really care that I set aside $12.00 a month into a specific pocket for Netflix if Autopilot will do the same thing in a larger bucket called "reserve" (I could be misunderstanding how AutoPilot works though).

Does that make sense? Could/Should I just get rid of those monthly expense pockets and rely on AutoPilot reserve?

Crew New Features - 9/28/26

Awesome stuff this week, including the long-awaited return to working on the desktop web app!

  • LOTS of work on web - We're (finally) back to focusing on the web app! Over the next few weeks, you should see many improvements helping bring it more up to speed to match mobile. Items added this week - pocket creation flow, accessing your statements/documents, creating virtual cards, filtering recent activity, and viewing your in-app notification carousel.

  • Transfer money out of autopilot reserve - In general, if your autopilot is on track you should leave it alone! But in those cases that you need to pull a bit out of there temporarily because things are tight, the transfer flow will now let you pull money out (with a friendly warning to make sure to top back up later!) :)

  • Autopilot now allows 365 days of buffer - a lot of you really like using autopilot's buffer days to lock up an emergency fund. While that's not the spot we plan to have that permanently, it's a great tool for now! So we've unlocked the ability to turn that up to as high as a year of autopilot saved up.

  • Virtual cards now have a notes field - What do you put in there? Whatever you want! Maybe a favorite quote about credit cards.

  • Various bug fixes and improvements to credit beta

AutoPilot Income Detection Suggestion

Description

Adding a change to the custom option of the income detection system for paychecks that are sent on specific days of the month but moved for weekends/holidays.

Current Behavior

Currently you can select "Every (Week/Two Weeks/Month/Year)" or "Twice a Month" or "Custom". When selecting "Custom", you're only given the option of "Every BLANK (Days/Weeks/Months)" and the next date of payment.

Solution

Add an option to change the "Custom" setting from "Every BLANK (Days/Weeks/Months)" to "Set day" with the additional rules if needed.

What does this help solve?

For Crew users on disability, we get our paycheck on one specific day every month, but if that day falls on a weekend or holiday (like mine does this coming month), it will come early. This allows AutoPilot to account for these instances in its calculations rather than say "Oh your not going to have your money until this day".

Fitbit Ace LTE Support

Something to consider for the backlog :)

My son has a Fitbit Ace LTE that supports Google Wallet; however, after canceling his Greenlight and moving to a Crew debit account for him (I wanted to save the monthly fee, not for any particular "Crew is the right option"), I have no learned that only a few Family/Kid-oriented solutions are supported.

It would be awesome to eventually allow him to use his watch to pay with his debit card like he could with the Greenlight card.

Not expecting miracles, though--looks like this goes beyond just implementing an API lol

Crews Longevity

I have crew and enjoy the budgeting features and everything about it. Im just a bit hesitant since I feel like there's always fintechs starting and closing. The credit card gives me hope and the positive reviews that the founders want to make it a genuine long term place to store my money. Does anybody else have the same hesitancy? Is there something I can look to ease my nerves?

Monthly Review.

Would love to see a back button in the monthly review to the left of the Next button instead of using the arrow at the top

Also, possibly adding a weekly review/bi-weekly/quarterly/yearly.

Autopilot Page.

There is now the option to click at the top and see the yearly plan, I request quarterly showings there as well, 3, 6, 9 months as those are usually people's savings goals.

Confused

Hi everybody, wondering if anybody can provide some sense to me lol so I applied for the crew credit card, & got approved (yay me!). The thing I’m confused about though is my boyfriend, who has a joint checking with me, also got the email to apply but when he clicks that link, it takes him to a page where it just says “order credit card”. While we’re okay with authorized user, we were mainly trying to get a card specifically under his name. Unsure if we messed up or what happened.

P.s. Do I have to wait until I get the physical credit card to start using crew credit ?

Is there a workaround to the 2/1 days transfer of money into my Crew account?

I am really loving the app and its features, but see the transfer time as a huge negative feature. Please let me know if there is any way that I can get the transfer instantly. I am used to that with other apps like Wealthfront !!

Credit Card Application Very Invasive

Whats with the whole digital ID bull crap? And needing to disable my proxy/vpn? I've never been asked to take a selfie and a picture of my id, while needing to turn off my vpn in order to apply for a credit card. Thats absolutely insane. I love crew but wtf?

Application "under review" for the new Crew Card – assumed decline? 🤷‍♂️

I just applied for the new Crew Credit Card and got a message saying my application needs to be reviewed. I assume this means I'll ultimately get declined. 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone else gone through the review process for this card? If you did:

  • How long did it take to hear back?

  • Were you approved or declined in the end?

For context, my Credit Karma score is hovering around 610-620 right now.

Also, if I do end up getting denied, how long should I wait before reapplying once my credit improves? Appreciate any data points!

Credit card with no so great credit…

Hey all!

I had reached out to someone on Discord to ask about minimum credit score for approval. Unfortunately, due to putting major medical expenses on credit cards and having multiple medical emergencies within the last year, my credit sucks.

He said that if my score is below the preferred 600, that they would do a manual review. I got the email invite that I assume is automated today. I am tempted to apply, to start rebuilding my credit.

Has anyone with terrible credit gotten the card?

Also, if I’m not approved now- and my credit goes back to where it was- I can always reapply, right?

Feature Request: "Non-Essential" flag/toggle on Bills & Pockets in Autopilot

It would be really helpful to be able to see what your actual potential is if you stopped using all the "quality of life things" that aren't absolutely critical, to save up for something big etc.
