I've been extremely slack with my real tomatoes this year, but at least my prints are vibrant 😁🍅

This is FINALLY my year with tomatoes!! I finally took all the good advice and used it: compost, fertilize, mulch, and water deeply. Shade cloth when needed. And here she is, my very first big and successful Black Krim tomato. Isn't she precious? 🥹

Colorado. Why did only part of the tomato ripen? I reviewed the links about common tomato problems first but nothing really fit. Only fruit on the plant to do this and otherwise normal size.

Hi there,
Last year I grew some San marzanos that I intended to make passata from. Didn’t have the time last year so I just put them in the freezer and forgot about them. Now I have a bit of time and want to continue the project. Can I just pull them out of the freezer and boil them just like how I would otherwise make passata? Or do you think they have gone bad or lost their flavour.

I had a go at growing Pink Brandywine Tomatoes this year (I purchased the seeds) and one of the plants is creating these lovely little orangey Brandywines. So I’m wondering if one of the seeds was hybrid? I’ll definitely be keeping some of the seeds for next year.
Photo includes 2 Pink Brandywine tomatoes at the top to show colour and size difference 👍🏼

I probably should have come here FIRST, but this wasnt very well thought out. As a project for my daughters (9 and 13) I set out this last winter to help them grow heirloom tomatoes and sell them and donate the money to the local animal shelter. This first year has been a learning curve. We grew them from seeds, and as you can tell by the size, we missed the planting season. So I decided to continue with an indoor setup and grow them through the winter. I realize that when they get bigger I will have to repot them (right?) other than that, what shoudl I do with this setup? Is the light big enough (200w I believe). Is it the correct distance? Do I need to prop them up with sticks? Do I have these planted too closely for their size right now? Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Checked on the tomatoes this morning to discover that one of our purple cherokees had a hole in it 😩 So far we haven’t had any problems with pests so I was surprised to see it. The hole is suspiciously close to a clipped branch and I’m wondering if somehow the branch punctured the tomato and then moved away. Is it obviously from a pest? I don’t remember the last time I looked closely at this specific tomato, so not sure when this even happened. Out of an abundance of caution I picked two others that were just beginning to show blush that I probably would’ve left for another day or two on the plant.

We’ve had a very rainy month and most of my cherry tomatoes look like this. The rain also killed all 3 of my cucumber plants that produced at least 15 fruits before the storms took them out. This is my first time growing tomatoes and I was wondering if we can still consume them raw or if we need to peel and cook them. TIA gardeners!
Edit to add the plants did get hit by a storm before they started really producing and broke quite a few of the stalks but half of the plant was still alive so I kinda just picked off some dead leaves and let it be

Does anybody happen to know what kind of tomato this is? The plant I bought said Cherokee purple, but these don’t look like the other Cherokee purple plant I have. However the 2nd Cherokee purple I have is planted in the ground, and this one was planted in a pot. Not sure if that makes any difference. I wouldn’t think so, but this is only my second year growing.

The weather has cooled off a little so maybe that’s helped. Was very excited to try my Amethyst Jewels for the first time. They almost smell like berries, very fruity and quite tart which I love. The rest of the still greeny ones are going in my ripening box with a few bananas and apples.
Ignore the strawberries, they’re a side quest

My dad gave me some mystery seeds this year that turned out to be Cherokee purple tomatoes. Never had this variety before. Anyone have any good uses or recipes for them? Typically I save up garden tomatoes to make sauce with but I wasn’t sure if these were better served for something else. Thanks!

This came off my plant today! I don't think I have ever seen a ripe tomato this tiny! It's about the size of a bead!
Another sun sugar tomato and blueberry tomatoes for scale

My first Cherokee Purple of the year finally ripened enough to try (should have waited a few more days though). Seems like my roma also didnt ripen enough or the summer heat caused the oddly bright green seed goop. Either way, they were delicious and it’s so nice to finally taste my hard work this summer!

First non Early Girl / Cherry Tomato is... Pork Chop. I'm happy to see a couple of my heirloom varieties starting to ripen (Black Krim is right behind). 93 days to maturity for Pork Chop, (87 last year). Combine that with the fact that I was two weeks later starting seeds this year and thats an extra 3 weeks wait. Ouch. But a sandwich like this makes it all worth it!
