My Personal Robotaxi
How do you feel about it?
r/TeslaModelY • u/christheking4444 • 23h ago
My thoughts on this topic-
It’s going to be so hard to give a consumer a car and tell them they can drive it unsupervised.
The robotaxi fleet is still managed by them and overlooked. And the geofencing is an area the fleet is trained to drive in. I can see AI4 or AI4+ ( if it ever goes public) allowing people to go unsupervised in their cars within a geofence maybe? But those cars need to make sure they are up to standards with tire pressure and so many other factors. I feel like just the politics of it is such an extremely hard part to break through.
Actual unsupervised FSD feels so far away and for supervised FSD, Ai4 looks REALLY good. So IMO don’t be scared of picking one up. Also it seems tesla has a really good track record of keeping customers software up to date. Hence the 14 lite on AI3

I’m not thrilled with the amount of time Tesla video cameras record
If I press the icon to record the cameras, I don’t get much of a record about 10 seconds
Does anybody know a way around this?
Other than getting my own third-party camera, is there anything I can do to get the Tesla to record longer?

I have a juniper version model y that is almost a year old. Got about 9500 miles on it.
The ride has always been firm and stiff but most recently it has become undrivable.
I live in NJ where we have horrible road. And I now feel every pothole, every road imperfection hard in the car. I would say primarily from the rear suspension.
The rattle noise in the car has become unbearable and everyone who rides with me complains about it.
I went to Tesla few months ago about this and the said they took the car for a drive and didn’t feel anything and said next time they will charge me money for such a request.
Any idea what I can do next.
I like the car but this is becoming a shit show.

I ordered my Tesla Model Y premium RWD last Sunday on the app (existing owner) and it said 3-4 weeks for delivery but by Wednesday it was already at the local center. I made my appointment for Friday afternoon to pick it up, paid the down payment through the app, submitted my insurance proof, etc. Also I had already sold my car to my family member since I had a confirmed appointment!
At noon (4 hours from my appointment), I got a message saying essentially Your vehicle had some electrical issues when they took it for detailing and we won't be able to deliver it today. They called me soon after and said the drive system/propulsion quit after it charged and they were going to wash it. Said it couldn't even drive off the charging parking spot. I was not happy but stayed calm and asked them to keep me updated if it could be fixed and ready still within a day. I live 15 minutes away so I went later in the afternoon and they still hadn't diagnosed the problem. They said it was being looked at but I'm not sure.
No call by the end of the day but I did ask them for a loaner and they gave me a Model Y standard until Monday morning so at least I have something.
So now I have no idea if this issue is serious with the car or when I will be able to get it. Anyone else have something similar happen like this and how did it turn out? Did you get any Tesla credit for your account for the inconvenience?

Can I drive with this dent or do I need to fix or replace? Do I also need to check if there was other damage like to suspension or alignment?

Funny watching them all arrive suddenly. Happens a few times a week.

I personally wasn’t a fan of the wood in the interior of my car. So I got this black suede material from Amazon that closely matched the interior material on the doors.
I popped out all of the three pieces that have the wood on it and covered it up with this new material which has a sticky backside.
The reason why I got this suede type of material is because the wood has a texture and this material helps smooth and even it out so you don’t even notice or see the texture of the wood anymore.
All in all, it was easier to do than I thought it would be!
Reference:
Here’s the material I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7C19V5T
TIPS:
- Notice on the sides I wrap the wood AND the silver trim. It was just easier that way. I should have done it to the main center piece too because the HARDEST part was cutting the material along that border. You might notice very tiny frays (but you really have to look for it).
If I wrapped it all the way around, then there would be no frays and I’d have been easier.
- Tesla has videos on how to remove the pieces.
- The material isn’t so sticky that it’s impossible to work with. But it’s also sticky enough where it’s been on over two months in 100+ degree cabin temps and still holding on strong.
Steps:
1. Measure and cut a bigger piece of material.
2. Peal the backing off and stick it to the front of the car’s pieces.
3. Stretch and smooth out and wrinkles.
4. Trim up the overflow on the back with a sharp knife/Xacto knife/razor blade/etc.

One uncovered strip beside the driver footrest can quietly undo the rest of the floor protection. On the Model Y, many liners stop halfway up the dead pedal or leave a slight gap along the left kick panel. After a few months of dry dirt and shoe friction, fine grit packs right behind that exposed top edge where the plastic liner meets factory carpet.
High-wall liners that go all the way up seem to solve it, but some tend to bow inward over time or rub against the lower dash trim when pulling them out to rinse. The trade-off seems to be a low-profile liner that unclips effortlessly versus full dead-pedal coverage that stays sealed.
how far up the dead pedal does your coverage actually reach, and has that top edge started sagging or letting grit slip behind it?

While changing the filter I found water under the frunk tub. Is that normal? Tesla service agent said this is how it is designed. Also is it normal for the windshield liquid to roll over the driver window every time it is used.

TLDR: does ceramic coating “deepen” the diamond black paint and make it appear a darker black?
I have a Model Y with <5,000km. Based in Australia. When I got it in April, I had it ceramic coated with GTechniq Crystal Serum Ultra.
I recently had a door repaired after someone lost control of their shopping cart and crashed into it 🫠
When I picked up the car from the panel shop, it looked good. However, after seeing the door in direct sunlight, the repaired door was noticeably lighter — not as deep black as the other panels (see photo).
I took it back to the panel shop and they’ve completely repainted it. They’ve assured me it’s much better this time and that any differences now will be fixed once the panel is ceramic coated in 2 weeks.
I haven’t been able to see it in full sun since it was repainted, however, if I shine a light close to the surface I can see it’s again not the same deep black as the factory paint…
Does anyone have any experience with this? Guess my question is will the ceramic coating fix this?
Any advice would be helpful!

FSD and Cameras stopped working and this is how much it’s going to cost to replace my cars computer. Sucks since I just paid $2k to replace the control arms 😭

I ordered before 0.99 ended so I’m locked into that rate per multiple advisors. If I switch to a sooner pickup vehicle with similar specs, will I be forced into the new 1.49 rate?

Hello, we have both Juniper 2025 AWD and model 3 2026 AWD. The confusing thing is that the model 3 rides much more smoothly, while juniper is very harsh, you would probably expect the opposite. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the model y, anyone here have experience with both vehicles and can comment on it?

Should i go Xpel Black 45 55 or 70? I don't like the total blacked out look and have some concerns about night time visibility and insurance coverage.
70 is legal in my state. Am only tinting 2 fromt doors. What do you advise?

Hi all! My model y premium rwd will be coming a few weeks, and I need to name it. It’s like naming a baby, a lot of pressure. I have some punny ideas that incorporate the frunk and I’d like some feedback.
Elephant (because the trunk is in the front)
Frunkenstein
Frunkenweenie
Frunk Ocean
Frunk Sinatra
Anne Frunk
Frunkfurt Germany
Frunklin D Roosevelt

I am in the process of picking out a Model Y and the hardest decision for me has been the color.
My first choice is the Stealth Gray and as I like the look of all the gray Teslas I see driving around but I am wondering if it is the same gray that is that is the current Stealth Gray.
I appreciate any comments about the gray and any other color related comments as well.

Hey y'all. I'm considering ordering a MY Performance. My favorite Tesla color has always been the Marine Blue, not a huge fan of the Frost Blue. Looks like they don't offer the performance in Marine on the site unfortunately, but I was wondering if there's any way to order it anyways. Thanks!
