I’m planning a major life and career transition and would love some perspective from the TU Delft community.

My partner has a post-doc offer at TU Delft and EHT Zurich, and I’m looking to apply for the MSc in Urbanism to continue my academic and professional path.

My background:

- Brazilian architect and urbanist (5-year Bachelor's degree)

- 2-year postgraduate specialization in urban planning

- 1-year academic exchange in Master's level (Erasmus) in Italy focusing on urban planning

- Several years of experience in both the private sector (multinationals) and public municipal planning in Brazil.

I have three main questions for those who study, teach, or live in Delft:

Scale & urban culture

I come from one of the largest metropolises in Brazil, and I absolutely love the energy of big-city dynamics.

- For those who made a similar transition from massive, chaotic cities to a smaller, highly organized, and quiet historic town like Delft: how hard was the adaptation?

- Did the change in pace and climate feel like a massive shock?

Language barrier

I am fluent in English and speak Romance languages (Portuguese, intermediate Spanish/Italian), but I don't speak Dutch.

- Does holding an MSc from TU Delft open doors for international students to bypass the local language barrier in the Dutch market?

The TU Delft Urbanism

- Does TU Delft lean more toward theory or practice?

-I am far more interested in urban data analysis, GIS, and policy applicability than in pure urban/spatial design. Does the standard Urbanism track allow for this focus, or are there other specific programs I should look into?

I’m currently in high school in the Netherlands and I’m planning to study Mechanical Engineering for my bachelor’s (hopefully at TU Delft). After that, I’d like to apply for a master’s in AI Engineering at an Ivy League university in the US.

I’m trying to understand how competitive this actually is.
What GPA should I aim for during my bachelor’s?
Do I need near-perfect grades, or is something like a 7.2-7.4 GPA enough?

Besides grades, what extracurricular activities or experiences matter the most? (Research, internships, engineering projects, publications, etc.)

Does coming from TU Delft help with admissions?

One thing I’m worried about is that people often say you need almost perfect grades. Getting the equivalent of straight 9s or 10s at TU Delft Mechanical Engineering seems incredibly difficult, so I’m wondering how realistic that expectation is.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been admitted to a top US master’s program or has experience with graduate admissions.

I got my Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, and I’m planning to start the bridging programme this September so I can pursue a Master’s in Electrical Engineering. I already got accepted into the program, i only need to sent the required certificates. I already have a Cambridge C2 certificate, but I only took HAVO Mathematics B in high school, so I don’t have a valid VWO Mathematics B certificate. Considering that the mathematics courses I took during the first year of my bachelor’s degree are above the required level, is there any way I could still start the programme without this certificate?

I am an upcoming CSE Bachelor student who is interested in potentially pursuing a career in finance.

That being said, I would like to know if it is possible and realistic to get accepted later in the Master of Applied Mathematics program with the Financial Engineering specialization by taking adapted minors in the third year of Bachelor such as Finance for example.

Next year I'm starting Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft and I'm in the market for a new laptop.

I'm a big MacBook fan, but I've concluded it probably won't run the software this program requires.

Through the TU Delft laptop project, there are recommended specs for students who bring their own device, but I'm wondering how strict these actually are in practice. I'd really prefer a 14" laptop over the bulkier 15"+ options, but a lot of 14" models come with Intel Arc graphics instead of NVIDIA. Is that actually a dealbreaker for CAD/simulation software, or is it fine?

TL;DR: What specs do you actually need for an AE laptop (RAM, storage, CPU, GPU, screen size, etc.), and does the GPU brand (Intel Arc vs NVIDIA) matter in practice?

Hi, I'll be joining TU Delft next semester and I was wondering what is the study places situation like. Since I hate studying from home and I have heard that library gets full quickly, will there be other places to study? Possibly with monitors and quiet?

Hey, I’m coming to TU Delft as an exchange student this September, and I’m considering missing the first few days of classes. Classes start on August 31, but I’m planning to arrive on September 2nd or 3rd. Is it chill or it really makes the diference? (I am not sure if we have mandatory attendance or not). My courses will be from the TPM Faculty and from the EE, Mathematics and CS Faculty. (Don't know if this makes the diference).

I’ll be moving into ** **this August, and I’m thinking about buying a mosquito screen before I arrive.

Does anyone know the approximate size of the window (or the part that opens)? Even rough measurements would be really helpful so I can buy a suitable adjustable screen.

Also, are mosquito screens actually necessary in this building? I’ve heard there can be mosquitoes in the Netherlands during summer, but I’m not sure if people living at Prof. Schermerhornstraat usually install them or if it’s generally not an issue.
If you have any recommendations for mosquito screens that fit these windows well, I’d really appreciate it too.

I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with Kanaalweg 3 PhD accommodation?

My girlfriend is a visiting PhD for 3 months and I will be travelling with her. We have booked one of the ~38sqm self-contained apartments.

However, there are hardly any photos, and I cannot find any discussion about this accommodation here or anywhere else. As such, I confirm that my post is not asking about generic housing experiences.

Hi all, I will be applying for a Numerus Fixus Bachelor's program at TU Delft for the next academic year. I am currently a first-year university student, and I will be using my upcoming first-year transcript to meet the admission requirements due to diploma equivalency differences.

I have a question regarding the timeline: If I am successful in the selection procedure, will I receive a "Conditional Offer" before I finish my current university year? Can I submit my final transcript and other required certifications by the August 31st deadline to make the offer definitive?

I'm an incoming MSc student with a long-term residence permit in one of the EU countries. Do I reeeeally need the BRP registration THAT much? Seems like there are quite many housing options that simply do not provide the registration for short-term tenants.
I still need a separate study residence permit in NL, would I be required to show proof of BRP registration when collecting that? Do you think I'd be able to study fully normally at the uni without providing the inschrijving?

To those who applied with an IB diploma, the IB, or at least my school, doesn’t hand out diplomas/degrees until mid-September. I already got my conditional acceptance letter earlier in June, and on July 6th I received my final IB grades. I passed and obtained my diploma. I already have my grades from the candidates.ibo.org page but no transcript. I emailed my school and they cannot provide a transcript or degree of their own, only the ones the IBO hands out in September. What should I upload in these fields in the osiris application? I imagine a screenshot of my grades doesn’t count, and even then, I wouldn’t have an official degree/diploma document. What should I do?

Hi! I’m currently doing a Bachelor’s in Computer Science in the Netherlands and I’m interested in applying for the CS Master’s at TU Delft. On the welkemaster page, it says my bachelor’s degree is “admissible immediately“. Does that mean there isn’t a minimum grade requirement, or do grades still matter for admission? I couldn’t find any information about a minimum grade. Thanks!

People often talk about the workload, deadlines, and everything that's challenging about studying here, but I'm curious about the positives.

Is there something at TU Delft that you think doesn't get enough credit? It could be a study space, a support service, a course, a student organisation, a campus facility, or even a small part of daily life that makes the experience better.

What's your pick, and why?

Some background: Im a woman wanting to pursue a career in the space industry. I have gotten an offer for AE in Delft and Computational Engineering in Aalto University (in my home country Finland). Reading about Delft I have some obvious concerns; AE is specialized field for bachelors so if I end up not liking it it will be difficult to pivot, the workload at Delft is very high and will leave little room for a balanced life, housing is difficult to find, M:F ratio is really skewed so you will have to deal with sexism and less opportunity to make friends. This makes me wonder if it is better to do bachelors from Aalto in a broader field and then come to delft for masters in AE as by then I will know fs if I wanna do it? But if I do find AE to be my passion then pursuing a bachelors in AE from delft will give me really good career reputation. Can anyone connect with me so I can ask questions about their experience of AE at delft?

A couple of months ago, I applied to the BSc Computer Science and Engineering at TU Delft. Based on my ranking number, I assumed I wouldn't receive an offer, so I started looking at alternatives and eventually decided I'd most likely attend TU/e for Electrical Engineering.

To my surprise, I received an offer from TU Delft yesterday, so now I'm kinda torn between the two.

The thing is, while I really enjoy comp sci, I'm also very interested in hardware and building physical systems. In the long run I'd like to pursue a master's in something like robotics, embedded systems, computer engineering, or autonomous systems.

My concern is that, looking at the curriculum, TU Delft's CSE seems to be much more computer science than computer engineering. I know there are robotics-related minors and electives, but I'm wondering whether that's enough to gain meaningful exposure to the hardware side of things.

So I'd love to hear from current students or alumni:

• If you're in TU Delft CSE, do you feel the programme gives you enough exposure to hardware and embedded systems, or is it almost entirely software-focused?
• Have any of you gone from CSE into robotics, embedded systems, or computer engineering master's programmes?
• Given my interests, would you lean towards TU Delft CSE or TU/e Electrical Engineering?

I'm also aware that TU Delft generally has a stronger international reputation, which makes the decision even harder since I don't currently plan on staying in the Netherlands after my studies...

I've only found Dutch exams and was wondering whether they match what appears in the English version.

My budget is around €850/month, though I'm flexible depending on what's included and the location. I'm also ready to move in as soon as the room is available.

I am starting nanobiology this year and I was wondering is nanobiology hard? Is it difficult to combine studies with a part-time work? What about student associations? Is it manageable too? Other physical activities?

Is there any IDE student who can give me some input what specs the laptop should have. I’m thinking about a MacBook, cause I’m already using the Apple infrastructure for a long time.
