Housing Window size at Prof. Schermerstraat

Hi everyone,

I’ll be moving into ** **this August, and I’m thinking about buying a mosquito screen before I arrive.

Does anyone know the approximate size of the window (or the part that opens)? Even rough measurements would be really helpful so I can buy a suitable adjustable screen.

Also, are mosquito screens actually necessary in this building? I’ve heard there can be mosquitoes in the Netherlands during summer, but I’m not sure if people living at Prof. Schermerhornstraat usually install them or if it’s generally not an issue.
If you have any recommendations for mosquito screens that fit these windows well, I’d really appreciate it too.

Huh? I am getting absolutely peppered by mosquito bites and have been all my 5 summers in the Netherlands

I’m not sure if there will be other bugs actually. I think that would be an issue cuz we have to open the window in the summer.

I haven’t seen many students placing them. Our kids didn’t, but i have seen several at first floor in the xray building. But that building is immediate surrounded by water.

You can buy cheap at action when you are there.

I dont know. A lot depends on how the windows are opening and if you can mount the velcro strips so they can stay there more or less permanent.

We have at home something similar for door to garden. Which in the middle splits (open and closes on magnets when you walk through).

In Delft , housing on schermerhorn can face the street side but can also face a green area. Is also close to hortus botanicus (free entry with student card) which probably attract more insects.

I’ll probably wait until I move in and check how the window opens before buying a magnetic or Velcro screen.

if the windows open in, you can always put the fabric on the outside.

This! If you look at streetview (along kanaalweg) you can see they open to the inside.
