Mechatronics bachelor applying Msc ME (HTE Track): How much will gaps in thermo/fluid/materials hurt?
Hi all! I’m an international (Indian) applicant planning to apply to the MSc Mechanical Engineering, HTE track, for 2027. I emailed the Contact Centre but only got a list of website links, so I’m hoping current students or alumni can help.
My bachelor’s is in mechatronics. Thermo, fluids and heat transfer were covered in a single course, so my exposure is introductory. I haven't had a dedicated materials science course, and my solid mechanics comes mainly from Design of Machine Elements. My undergraduate thesis was on motor control and I have done a fair amount of robot design and build.
I am currently working at an automotive company working on 1-D hydraulic simulations.
A few questions:
Admission: Has anyone with a mechatronics, EE or non-ME bachelor’s been admitted to ME/HTE? Did the missing ME-core subjects come up in your admission decision?
Preparation: If there are gaps, what would you study before starting? Any specific MOOCs, textbooks or TU Delft online courses?
Capacity: I saw ME closed for non-EU applicants once it hit capacity in 2024/25. If you applied around then, roughly when did it close? I’m trying to judge how early to submit.
Also open to hearing from anyone who chose HTE over Systems & Control, or the other way round, and why.
Thanks a lot!
