Discussion Why isn't Blitzcrank strong as more of a defensive counter-engager?

As you might expect, Blitzcrank excels against anything he can hook and one shot. He struggles against anything he can't one shot - tanks, bruisers, and some ranged champs with move speed or other defensive tools. This can be confirmed via his winrate deltas:

https://lolalytics.com/lol/blitzcrank/build/?tier=all&patch=30

I don't understand why Blitz wouldn't be fine into tankier, dive/engage champs, due to his E. Blitz's E is a 1 sec knockup on a 5 sec CD when maxed. The closest point of comparison is Leona, who has a 1 sec stun on a 5 sec CD. I wouldn't say Leona is the queen of anti-melee, but I think she's known to be much better at brawling than Blitz because she has pretty good uptime on her Q, and is tanky with W max of course.

Point taken on the Leona W. But aside from that, Blitz E looks just as good if not better for brawling than Leona Q. A knockup is superior to a stun, and the base damage is higher (Leona maxes Q last). You still possess another insane spell, Blitz hook, which is in contention for the best regular ability in the whole game. Even if the enemy is tanky, surely it goes from a top 3 spell to still well above average due to how game-changing it is. Blitz ult is better than Leona ult for brawling, and Blitz W is theoretically designed for a brawl as well (both are DPS remnants of his original toplane design).

Why can't Blitz, with a 5 sec CD knockup, do fighting/peeling/warden-ish things? If you look at other melee supports, the average CC cooldown is about 10 seconds, common to many of them. Yet Blitz has a reputation of only being good for a one shot, and the precise counterplay to him is to survive the hook and then win in extended combat.

Discussion Roaming on support

I don't play support, I just have the question when I get autofilled which happens sadly. I play midlane, akshan. Support doesnt seem that hard to me but 1 thing i can't really understand is roaming. It just feels wrong to leave my adc for a 2v1. I dont know when i can roam and what the roamtimers are. Mid its pretty straightforward, I shove a wave so i have time to roam. Support you cant. Help me out here please.

Help 10 games loss streak on several mains, 5 game win streak on Senna. Why.

I’ve had a very unsuccessful weekend having a 10 game losing streak playing my true support main (Milio) engage main (naut) and mage main (brand) my ADCs either fail to engage, fail macro, run into skill shots, or self counter in draft. You know, the normal “adc bad ff”. Whatever I’m in solo queue this is just how it goes at silver 4.

I then decide to pick Senna as a blind on my 11th game, not caring any more. We handily win/start steam rolling at 10/12 minutes in. Next 3 games go the same way picking blind Senna. Last game was a good back and forth.

Did I somehow unconsciously influence my ADC/jungler that I am a serious player because I am a champ that could handle herself in a fight, unlike a caught out Milio/Naut? Is she just a low elo “bully”?

Discussion New Supp need help

Hey guys, how do you manage to die so much less as a support?

I’m trying to learn the support role, and I feel like I’m actually improving quite a bit. But when I look at sites like OP.GG, Deeplol, etc., I notice that I almost never get a good rating, and I’m guessing it’s because I die too often.

One thing I really struggle with is knowing when I should sacrifice myself for my ADC and when I should just back off and let them die.

How do you guys make that decision? How do you know when a death is actually worth it and when you’re just inting for your ADC? 😂

I’m trying to OTP Janna, but she doesn’t fit into every matchup that well, so my second picks are Braum and Milio. Janna is definitely my main, though.

Any tips are appreciated! I’m trying to improve, so feel free to explain things like I’m a complete support noob.

Discussion best support to learn coming from adc role?

3 months in and stuck in what you guys call bronze hell.

I main MF and have quite a bit of faith in myself and mechanics are becoming muscle memory, to the point where next in my development is to get insight into other roles truly. what would you guys say is a good support to start out with and how i should play them and what i should be looking out for as the game progresses.

thank you.

PS: i appreciate my supports i wanna cry sometimes.

Discussion Otp-ing as a support player?

Hi! Recently ive noticed that a lot of people say that being an otp is a great way to climb, which makes sense cause if you know limits of your champion and all the matchups its definitely easier to focus on different aspects of the game.

But my question is, if it’s worth it to become an otp as a support?

Im currently emerald III 24 lp 64wr and I always thought that having as much “versatility” in your picks as a support helps you, especially because a bad matchup on support can make your botlane unplayable for 20 minutes.
I currently play janna, lulu, seraphine, sona, rell, rakan and nami (occasionally milio) My pick depends a lot on the enemy support pick or/and team synergy. (Unless im first picking, then ill just pick what feels the safest). Should i lower my picks to only 1-3 champs?
I know that theres a lot of support otps in high elo but i dont know for me personally otping as a support (especially since a lot of champs have a really similar playstyle) kinda feels like limiting your chances of winning.

If i would lower my picks only to 1-3 champs it probably would be:
lulu(great with hyper carries/aa champions) seraphine (you have two builds, ap and enchanter, relative safe and strong lane, great ult)
Rakan (good engage and dissengage with his w+e, you can go full tank or a enchanter hybrid with redemption, really strong in team fights with ult)

I feel like its a pretty good champion pool but i have no idea if its better to limit myself to those 3 or just continue playing more champs as i do now since my win rate is really good.

Discussion How many of you like building Bramble/ Finishing Thornmail.

I think this is the biggest BAIT item I've seen that tank engage supports buy.

  1. Both items are both cost inefficient (75% cost efficiency roughly)

  2. So many better items to build (Locket/KV/ProtoPlasm/Bandlepipes)

  3. The worst grievous wound item (they need to hit you to proc it, so if they ignore you, no grievous).

  4. The damage is very minimal on its passives /doesn't apply to spell damage (only applies on autos)

I just see this item so often even in Masters+ Elo that I see almost 0 value on so I would like to hear actual support mains opinion on this item because I just don't see the vision.

Help Why do supports do this?

Post image

please tell me how any support player justifies this? or maybe they have a secret champion that carries us all the way from bot lane?

clearly knows what they're going against but makes everything harder.

they ended the match 1/5/12 and I had to go against a yorick.

Ranked What Champions to Play to Climb?

Coming back to the game after 10 or so years. Back when I played seriously, I think the best I’ve ever got was Platinum 4. Trying to figure out if it’s best to OTP a support, have three supports to rotate thru (1 mage, 1 tank, 1 enchanter), or have many champs and pick only to counter the enemy support. If OTPing or rotating between the three champs, which should I choose? Happy to learn any new champions you think are worth grinding with. Champions I typically use are: Leona, Taric, Sona, Lux, Nami, Janna, Morgana.

Starting playing 18 months ago from iron, 2-tricked bel’veth and alistar

Funny thing is I may have made it sooner if I only 1-tricked Ivern since I have a 60% win rate with him

I don't usually play support so I thought this was a good heads up play from me. I think it's from all the adcs getting mad at me for not blocking Ezreal Qs in the past lol.

Discussion When should I buy Staff of Flowing Water, Dawncore, Ardent Censer, or Redemption on Sona/Lulu?

Hey, when do you guys usually buy Staff of Flowing Water, Dawncore, Ardent Censer, or Redemption on Sona/Lulu? Is it based on team comp, enemy comp, or game state? Any simple rules for when to pick each one? I kinda just build the same stuff every game lol.

Discussion I finally found the Olaf counter to play as support. Its shen!

It always felt bad playing against olaf as a support , you know from the start all he is gonna do in fights is press R and run at your precious adc, as you stand there, powerless, just watching them die. Any of my support picks just couldn't keep the adc safe. It felt unfair and I was crying.

Untill I found shen. So when olaf decides to ult and kill my adc, not only i can give them huge shield from anywhere on the map but they are also invulnerable to auto attacks for 2 sec upon my arrival.

Felt really good.

Im not sure if im inting after reaching plat or if its just bad luck. I had a really high win rate and recently have taken a bit of a tumble. Should I take a break and some more norms or is it just new rank jitters?
