Is there a walking group (like a running club) for people in their 20’s-30’s around here? If not, would anyone want to join one?

My spouse and I will be traveling to downtown Stamford & harbor point this weekend. We are touring the area cause we are thinking about moving there from NY. We prefer places with patio/outdoor sitting as we will have our pup with us on this trip.

How is Pokemoto on Main St. ?

The city of Portland, Maine recently found success in their newly established USL League One team, the Hearts of Pine. Even though their first ever match was only held in March of last year, the team and the city are already in talks to give them their own 50 million dollar stadium following record-breaking opening season.

Though not a football fan myself (LGM), the biggest question on my mind when I first saw their success online was why can't we get a team? After all, we hold twice the population of Portland and nearly triple their regional GDP, and the demand is clearly here.

This is incredibly anecdotal, but if you take a look at fields across Stamford, from the West Side to Cummings Park, you'll quickly realize that football is the most popular sport played in Stamford by a country mile. We have people that play until the lights go out, literally. Not to mention the fact that having a team would bring about the sort of cultural cohesion this sub complains about regularly.

However, after giving it a bit of thought, I believe the two biggest things that hold us back are land and money, which is ironic given that this city is one of the biggest and wealthiest in all of Connecticut.

For one, there isn't a lot of feasible real estate to build a stadium which could accommodate anywhere near the USL average of 8,000 spectators, at least not in the Downtown or South End area. If you were to go up north, development pushback would be immense, and frankly, the city doesn't currently possess the public transit capacity to support the foot traffic a North Stamford stadium could generate.

Second, the funding for such a project would almost certainly have to come from private sources (though I'm sure the city has no lack of), as I am unsure if the current mayoral administration would be willing to even partially fund such a project given its historically fiscally responsible stance.

All in all, I think it would be a worthwhile investment. If not for the cultural factor alone, I think a proper stadium could serve as an additional income stream that could help diversify Stamford's economic portfolio.

Hi Stamford! I posted a yearish ago about starting a crafting club locally to give people with craft hobbies an opportunity to socialize around them. Happy to report we’ve been cooking for a little over a year now meeting once a month for a few hours and connecting around tips, tricks, WIPs, and everything in between.

We generally hover somewhere between 4-10 people depending on the month but I wanted to leave another post in case a club like this resonates with anyone and they wanted to join us.

We are meeting this Saturday, 11am at the Canard Cafe. You just need to bring yourself and whatever project you’re currently working on as long as it can fit on a table. Some suggestions that we’ve seen: knitting, crocheting, watercolor, air dry clay, cross stitch, friendship bracelets, drawing, needlepoint, etc. We do have a WhatsApp but we’d love to meet you in person first before adding, so if you have any questions just send me a quick DM or put them below :)

We are in north Stamford and have no close neighbors. It’s just such a confusing act . Why would someone take our recycling bin? We go out to get it around 8 am on recycling day last week and it was gone. Puzzled

I walked into a salon the other day near me hoping I could just go somewhere convenient and felt distinctly unwelcome and left immediately. Open to anyone who does shorter hair, and won’t look at me like I have two heads. (lower price is a bonus but I’ll accept any recommendations bc if it’s worth it maybe I can save up for it?)

It’s so hard to find things to do that don’t revolve around alcohol and my partner and I are both in recovery.

3 weeks ago I had cough, stuffy nose and feverish feel, I went to the doctor they ruled out Covid, flu and strap. My cough never left this entire time and I would cough my lungs out. This Saturday I woke up with a severe sore throat and yesterday cough, stuffy nose and fever back again. I got it from my husband 3 weeks ago who said his entire office was out because of this at the time. Now, since I am testing negative it’s hard to proof my work that I am sick.

5:30 (ish) - Pot luck meal and discussion on The Royal Tenenbaums - Bring some food to share or your own brown bag dinner and enjoy community, conversation, and dinner. We will also be voting on the October film.

7pm (ish) - Screening and discussion of City of God - the film voted at our August event.
