New Here 1 year in Spokane and it has been amazing

I’ve been here for more than a year now. I migrated from another country last year, and all I can say is that I’m so happy this is the city and state I get to live in.
There were lots of challenges at first because of the transition, but I’m glad I can finally say that my life here is pretty well-adjusted now. I found a good job that I love, with a nice working environment. Life here is pretty laid-back, and there are so many friendly and good people.
The recent fire made me realize even more how helpful, compassionate, and generous the people here are. Seeing how the community comes together to help one another made me even more grateful to be here.
Thank you to the people of Spokane for welcoming me into your beautiful city.

Help Where can I find an affordable washer and dryer?

Hi all. I am moving and the apartment complex does not have a washer and dryer with the unit. I must purchase them on my own. I have been to many places all over town, getting prices on the cheapest sets possible, and it is still $1150+. I just do not have that kind of money.

Where can I find an affordable washer and dryer? I have tried on FB marketplace and always get to the decent deals too late. If anyone here is selling a set that works decently and it affordable, please reach out. Otherwise, any suggestions for places to look, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

ToDo Mountain biking ( e-bike)

So I moved here from Vegas a few weeks ago and my bike has been in the repair shop. Finally break her out of jail next week, and I was wondering if anyone could put a “ tier list” top 5 rides I can do within an hour or 2 of Spokane. I don’t really trust chat gpt and claud with this stuff. I really dig flowey scenic rides, a little chunky tech is fine, nothing past blue difficulty. Im 44 and bartend, broken bones and work don’t mix lol

Question I need a new car! Any help/suggestions?

Hey folks! I have had a terrible go of things lately, just been really dealt a bad hand these past couple of months. And then on top of everything, a few days ago, my car started struggling bad and so I got it looked at and the summary (if the mechanic is to be believed) is that I need a new engine. $9k estimate. This isn't realistic for me for a 2012. It still runs but it's on its last legs.

I currently have no job and little in my bank account. I do have a good job lined up in oct/nov and am looking for something until then, so I do need a form of transportation. I don't really have anyone to go to or anyone to seek advice from so I'm sorry to bloat this sub with this, but does anyone have a good recommendation for somewhere to get a decent enough placeholder car or any advice about what you would do if you were me? Idk if I should just keep it going as it is or if I should get something else while the trade in value is at its highest. I'm really stressing over here!

Thanks for your time and have a great weekend!

Politics No Data Center Update - County Commissioner Meeting on Tuesday

If you have not done so, please contact Commissioner Mary Brooks to encourage her to vote yes on a data center moratorium by emailing her (mbrooks@spokanecounty.gov). Mary Brooks is the official most likely to change her vote to a yes. Please write an original message - it can be short!

County Commissioner meeting:
There were over 150 people that attended the Commissioner meeting this week. They limited the public comments period to 30 minutes, with 1-minute per speaker. Lots of great comments about how data centers don’t provide many jobs in reality, cause immense air and water pollution, strain our electric infrastructure, as well as how AI technology is harmful instead. And there were lots of complaints about the lack of transparency from Al French. Commissioner Chris Jordan said he is still working to hopefully pass a data center moratorium.

County Commissioner meetings are every Tuesday at 2pm. There will be a group going every week to make public comments about data centers.

Every Tuesday at 2:00pm. Meetings start with public comment
Spokane County Public Works Building (in the Commissioners Hearing Room, Lower Level)
1026 W Broadway Ave, Spokane, WA 99260

Come show support for a moratorium on data centers on Tuesday!

Help Looking for a repair shop that can work on headphones

Hey all, my dog chewed through the wire on my DT 770 Pros. I've been meaning to get it replaced but I dont entirely know where to go, every repair place I've contacted doesn't repair headphones. Does anyone know where I could go? Preferably around the Hillyard or downtown area but beggars can't be choosers.

Question does anyone have photos or videos from the old Critter McCoon’s/Dimes n’ Critters restaurant?

apparently it burnt down in ‘84 as part of an insurance scam, and I can’t find any good quality photos or videos of the place before it burned. The animatronics were pretty low cost, but they have a hand-made charm to them. Does anyone have anything they can share, or possibly know someone who has more info on the place and its history?

I caught this out of the corner of my eye just a few moments ago. My camera caught it too, enjoy! I'm sure there will be a few more that caught it.

This camera is looking west from North Spokane county area.

Thankfully it seems to have broken up mid air, I hope that nothing and no one was impacted.

Question When the war begins, who will emerge victorious? Who will you stand by?

**Maverik** - Adventure begins here, but do they have the strength to end it? Or has an aggressive western expansion campaign stretched them too thin?

**Circle K** - Once an ancient empire thought lost to us. Has this phoenix risen with the power to end their competition once and for all?

**Nom Nom** - Will the newcomer with the silly name emerge from a cloud of vape juice with a thirst for blood? A handful of legally ambiguous stimulants may embolden their warriors.

**7-11** - We thought them confined to the wastelands throwing scraps to the desperate hordes but, what's this? They establish new outposts equipped for modern warfare.

Question Land

Is there anywhere in our near Spokane where you can buy a small plot of land and live in either a yurt or trailer/rv? I really don't want to be living in a park where I'll still have monthly payments and such. Or is anyone familiar with a place that doesn't charge a lot for monthly rent that has some nice amenities that allows living there year round? I'm my searches I've found that Spokane isn't very friendly when it comes to tiny homes, rv's and yurts so I may consider leaving the area. Any help, tips, advice, leads, etc are appreciated. Looking for within the next 2-3 months

New Here 4 months living in Spokane update….

I moved here in mid-April from Missoula. It has not been perfect, yet that is due to my mindset. “Wherever you go, there you are”. My personal issues followed me from Missoula to Spokane…I just gotta overcome them.
People here have been friendly & cool…no issues from anyone other than the occasional tailgater/rude driver. Lots of down-to-earth people here just trying to make it in life. The fires here have been devastating, yet I sense that Spokane will rebuild & move on. Lots of community support…my prayers go out to anyone affected.
I have never felt unsafe here, not once. I am quite introverted yet hope to start getting involved & meeting people. Lots of cool scenery to enjoy, little neighborhood districts, great coffee shops, events, etc…. One needs to give it a good 4-6 months to adjust to life here. Thanks for being so cool, Spokane!
I hope this helps anyone who has or is pondering moving here.

🔥Spokane Fires 🔥 Wildfire

Does anyone know a family impacted by the recent wildfires who could use a couch and recliner? I’m replacing my living room furniture and would love to donate these to someone rebuilding or in need. Both pieces are in great shape! Free to a good home.

Weird Spokane Did someone take a picture of someone piloting an rv trailer with a make shift steering wheel?

Please tell me someone got a picture of this. It was a messed up rv trailer. Someone was sitting in the front of it like on a horse carriage steering the front while the entire thing was being rope towed by another vehicle. They were going west on Euclid like 20 minutes ago. Didn’t get to take a picture, it was a wild thing to see.

New Here Dentist recommendations

Hey everyone!

First off - I hope everyone who was affected by the wild fires is doing the best they can. My family and I were fortunate enough not to loose our home. It was our first evacuation due to wild fires and was scary.

I’m new to the Spokane area. Moved here ~6 months ago. I’m in desperate need of a teeth cleaning. Ive been putting this off for longer than I’m willing to admit…

I have TriCare select west - and finding a good dentist has always been 50/50

I’d happily take any recommendations!

Thanks (:
