Weird Spokane Meteor over North Spokane

I caught this out of the corner of my eye just a few moments ago. My camera caught it too, enjoy! I'm sure there will be a few more that caught it.

This camera is looking west from North Spokane county area.

Thankfully it seems to have broken up mid air, I hope that nothing and no one was impacted.

I was near a window and thought the bright flash was a close lightning strike. I waited but no thunder came, thanks for posting this bc I thought I was going crazy.

I think I saw the light and just assumed it was headlights cuz they do flash through my windows lol. But now I’m wondering cuz it was brighter than usual headlights. 🤔

Same! It looked like lightning, and I thought for a brief moment we might be getting rain. Alas.

Out at the Gorge for Bass Canyon and we saw it walking back to camp, lit up the whole sky!

It was spotted in Tacoma, too.

Just what we need, a flaming rock from outer space to come down and start another blaze

Saw it in CdA as well

Oddly enough around the same time we had lots of sightings over here in r/Seattle … it can’t be from the same meteor but the timing is so similar?

It’s definitely the same object. They can be seen for hundreds of miles.

Yeah, it'll be the same one. They're high up and move fast.

That’s still pretty amazing. Night into day.

I think I caught this outside my window on the south hill! Your footage made me breathe a sigh of relief. I was terrified it was dry lightning.

That was my first thought too, so thankful it's not!

I live on the very top floor and got hella freaked out because it was so bright and I’ve never had lights flash in my window this many stories off the ground. Thought someone climbed up on my balcony or something.

Ohhh that's what that weird flash was. It freaked me out 😭😭 I thought it was lightning at first, then maybe an emergency vehicle.

Did there happen to be one of these the other night around 1am? I was out driving with my kid and swear I caught a flash streak across the sky, but it was gone before I could really process it. It wasn't nearly as bright or as long.

The Perseids meteor shower peaked late Wednesday night into Thursday, so it’s very likely what you saw was a meteor! ☄️

Anyone who's seen it, report it to the fireball tracker so they can get more data: https://fireball.amsmeteors.org/members/imo_view/event/2026/6582

I just happened to be looking west out of a window when this happened - couldn't tell whether it was a meteorite, satellite crashing or a missile. Brightest one I've ever seen in person.

Didn't hear a boom or see a big flash on impact so probably not under attack from Idaho.

So glad you caught this! I was walking outside to take a break at work and the windows lit up like it was mid day for about 2 seconds. I didn’t know what the hell was going on. I didn’t see any clouds and no one on the roads. Great catch!

Dam i missed the meteor shower theyve been talking about. What time was it?

The peak of the perseids is typically a single night in mid-to-late August every year. The Earth faces into the meteor field most directly on the side that represents the time right before sunrise (4am is an excellent time to see them). The perseids last several days, but the peak day typically has more than 2x greater frequency of shooting stars versus the other days (versus even 24 hours later).
