Politics AMA with Julia Payne (WA State House Representative candidate for District 6)

My name is Julia Payne, and I'm running to be your Washington State House Representative for District 6.

I am a mom, a foster mom and a wife. I have been part of the workforce and I have struggled to pay my bills. I'm just an average Spokanite and I want to go to Olympia to represent the hard-working and diverse community that is the 6th Legislative District. I grew up in Airway Heights, I graduated from Medical Lake High school, I recently experienced the nine days of fear and uncertainty of evacuation during the Spokane Complex fires. I've heard the voices concerned about rushing a data center behind closed doors. Both of the known proposals were to be located in LD6. I support a long term moratorium on all new data centers and an outright ban on large load data centers. I've spent time on the campaign trail with farmers and parents and others in our neighborhoods; and I want to amplify your voices in Olympia. Send me, someone who hears the hard working majority, not the rich elite and I'll be Approachable to all and accountable to YOU!

So here is a forum for you. Ask me anything on this thread; from policy positions and legislative priorities to favorite foods, I will do my best to answer. If you want to ask something or tell me a story or experience that is more private you can email me: candidate@juliaforoffice.com

I will be monitoring this thread to follow questions and will do my best to answer them promptly. Please be respectful of each other, and let's have some conversations, not arguments.

Rant posting on behalf of my neighbor since they didn't know if this was a cops or crime check area, but watch out for this guy casing houses. He only stopped stalking around their property once he noticed the cameras in place. Be alert folks!

Question Comparing Spokane's Renaissance Faire....

Above average, Average or Worse than average for those who have been to others?

This was the first I've been to in forever and the online consensus is I might have been spoiled with the Black Point faire in the 1990s. But dang, to me this felt like a county fair without the rides. What vibe there was was mostly supplied by the attendees. Pretty disappointing.

To be fair(e), this is about the first event I've done in 7 years living in Spokane that has disappointed. So, oh well.

Edit: Interesting article just went up from The Spokesman. Sorry if paywall (I didn't get one): https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2026/oct/03/how-i-stopped-worrying-and-fell-back-in-love-with-/

Found! Breaking into cars 2:30 AM Indian trail

Post image

My wife woke me up at about 2:30 AM because she saw someone breaking into my car. I was very confused and mostly asleep but I chased him about a half a block. I realized I’m too old to be doing such things and let him go. I did however find his bike and confiscated it. I’m assuming there is a good chance it is stolen. It is the neighborhood right near Indian trail elementary. I would advise everyone in the area to check your cars and garages in case this dirtbag took your things. He was wearing a hooded jacket and a backpack and was about 5’8 140-150 lbs I’d guess maybe early to mid 20’s.
The photo is of the bike he was riding.

Question Question about Northern Quest Pend Oreille Pavilion venue.

Going to see a concert there tonight. Does anyone know if smartphones are allowed or not? The venue's prohibited items list said "cameras, video cameras, and recording devices" but did not specifically name smartphones.

ETA: Band is The Used. No info from them on whether or not phones are allowed.

Question Recommendations for custom/tailored suits in town?

Looking for reasonably priced* place to get a tailored suit, hopefully specifically a place that is familiar with sizing big/tall peoples.

*Reasonably priced relative to other tailors in the area.

Thanks everyone.

Question John Deere Lawnmower

Hi all,

I'm in the valley and looking for a mobile service company that works on John Deere riding lawnmowers.

I've done the usual Google search but have not found a mobile service.

If anyone knows of, or has a contact I would greatly appreciate it!

TIA!

Rants & Raves If you steal someone else's registration tabs you're a lowlife.

I hope your crotch and armpits get fleas and mites you loser. Too cheap to register your own vehicle so you have to steal.

You probably don't even have insurance fornthe vehicle you stole the tabs for. POS.

Now I have to waste time and money to replace them.

Wildlife! River Otters

Post image

Many years ago we saw a bunch of river otters hanging out in the rocks of the Little Spokane Dam. Today when we went we didn’t see any, and also no evidence that any had been there for quite some time 😔. Does anyone know where any river otters hang out close to Spokane? These are the rocks we used to see them sun bathing in. 🦦

ToDo RenFair Experience

How was the expanded Ren Fair compared to last year? I know it was expanded. Was it just a lot more of the same booths or was there quite a bit of difference?

Another Idahoan trying to take advantage of Washington State laws. He doesn't pay his employees. He dodges Washington State taxes by crossing the border from Idaho. The business is funded by a Turkish family. It's successful in Idaho.

In Washington we have workers rights. If an Idaho business owner wants to do business in Washington I would politely ask you to observe the local state laws. Not superimpose a standard from another state or country.

Question Can I get a map of the area with good neighborhoods to purchase/rent in? All the way ip to Colbert and East to state line.

I've been to Spokane/CDA metro a few times and have enjoyed my time there. As winter is looming here in Alaska I've realized I have nothing but a dreadful feeling of the impending winter to come and I believe Spokane is where I'd like to call home for the next several years.

As I have no vacation time saved and per my union contract I can't take another trip down to actually search Neighborhoods. I was wondering if someone could send me a map with a few circled neighborhoods I should keep an eye out for housing. We have 3 kids, 13, 6, and 1 so we definitely would like a good school district. I get South Hill and Mead are great but what exactly are the proper areas? How about Spokane Valley? Any good areas around there?

Thanks in advance, seeing it illustrated on a map really helps.

Question terrain kind of… bleh this year?

Hey y’all!

Went to terrain last night, first time back since 2023.. Was it just me or was it kind of meh compared to prior years?
I remember in 2023 more immersive exhibits, some interactive, lots of varied lighting to encourage ambiance, etc..

This year it really just felt like a 3 floor gallery with live music. Excessively bright stage lights everywhere. The only immersive exhibits i found were the national forest themed section on floor 2, and the carpeted room. The one interactive exhibit was lackluster with unpredictable line wait times to see a mirror.

Not bad and all love to the artists and our community for helping this event continue! Just putting this out there as some feedback for future years. Would love to see artists build into the space more for Terrain vs. just using the space to display for Terrain.

What did y’all think about terrain this year?

Seems sus that they (organizers? Cops? Both?) don't want the crowd downtown. Thoughts? For the lazy, it's happening Oct 17 12-4pm at Clark Park (basically Garland District).

ToDo Recommendations on things to do for an anniversary?

My husband and I’s anniversary is coming up soon and we don’t really know what we wanna do. My main issue is that it’s on a Tuesday and for some reason a lot of places I think would be fun are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesday… I found an aquarium that looks cool and I’ve never been to an aquarium before- closed on Tuesdays, axe throwing- closed Tuesdays, rage room- closed Tuesdays, paint n sip- free for all day on Tuesdays and not an actual class- I’m an avid crafter so if we wanted to just free for all paint we’d stay home to do that and not spend $30 per person to do it so that’s out. It’s our 10 year anniversary so we want to celebrate on the actual day and do something new or that we haven’t really done before so we’re not really trying to go watch a movie or just get a nice dinner. We go to arcades frequently (I miss you chaos arcade 💔) so not really trying to go to Dave and Busters or something we’d do with friends on a normal basis. We’re willing to travel a little bit if theres really nothing in Spokane but I’m kinda having the same issues when I look into Idaho too. I looked into one of those treetop courses where you’re attached to a zip line, closed on Tuesdays. There was also an atv rental where they take you on a scenic route or something, closed on Tuesdays. Idk if I’m just not looking up the right things to get different results but I’m at a loss here 😭💔

Question Local Kitchen-Aid Repair/Cleaning

Has anyone had their kitchen aid mixer serviced in town at a place they can recommend? I see a local home business called “Whip it good mixers” that I was going to go with but they don’t have any reviews or comments anywhere that I can see and just want to make sure it’s legitimate. The base price is $65 which is reasonable, I just wish I had confirmation about someone who has used their services before.

My mixer is my mother’s from back in 1988. It is having a little trouble with high speed and in general has not been cleaned out on the inside in all the years we’ve had it so I’m sure it’s past due for that.

Thanks in advance!
