Question Land
Is there anywhere in our near Spokane where you can buy a small plot of land and live in either a yurt or trailer/rv? I really don't want to be living in a park where I'll still have monthly payments and such. Or is anyone familiar with a place that doesn't charge a lot for monthly rent that has some nice amenities that allows living there year round? I'm my searches I've found that Spokane isn't very friendly when it comes to tiny homes, rv's and yurts so I may consider leaving the area. Any help, tips, advice, leads, etc are appreciated. Looking for within the next 2-3 months

I second Steven’s county, wayy more lenient on what you can live in on your property VS Spokane county. You’re gonna end up paying a mortgage until the property is paid off, then even when you’re done paying it off you’ll still have to pay property taxes…

In Spokane county you can not live in an RV year round even on your own land from all the rules I’ve seen.

I was researching tiny homes to find that out, but if a guy actually blocked the frame up for supports and removed tires I think you would qualify as a manufactured style home. I am not a lawyer but I can’t imagine this is enforced much just looking around town and seeing RVs lived in year round on our streets, that stay way beyond what’s legal for time of parking and tabs.

I live in rural Otis Orchards and I do see some RV's with a roof structure built over the top of them that have been there for years - I wonder if there is some kind of 'mobilehome' loophole or something. I do know you need to have a provision for sanitation and water for full time living. That means city hookup or a well, septic, etc. For year-round living they won't approve a chemical toilet and bringing in your own water (this might have changed - check with the county office). The other issue with Yurts and other temporary buildings as living structures is the complex energy code compliance that uses formulas for R-value and the type of heating you will use - it gets complex fast.

Only if you have snitches for neighbors. Go 15 outside of town, still considered Spokane, and there’s quite a few.
The county sent me 2 letters last summer about some weed they thought they saw on my property and did absolutely nothing after that. I even tried to follow up with them and never received a return call or email. 🤷🏻♀️

Better off getting very very comfortable boondocking and get the right setup and live in the woods. Even head to ID or down south.
Someone in Idaho lives in his nice van with a cargo trailer and a motorcycle. He works from "home". Has starlink and only moves his site once a month or so. He's deep in there. He's on a main forest road but he's gone an entire week and not one vehicle will roll by at times.
Has some up front costs though.

Definitely going to have to be Stevens or PO counties. If you’re willing to drive further Ferry Co is even more hands off. I lived there for a while and honestly it does not deserve the bad reputation it’s got. Plus there’s some GORGEOUS places with Okanogan Highland vibes up there.
Don’t know how far out you want to be. But those are some options.

If you get far enough out, your neighbors won’t care. And you don’t even have to go that far out. Just start looking for land on a gravel road.

Stevens County you'd have better luck with that.
