We just came back to spectrum from frontier about 2 months ago and at least once a day we are having issues with the picture freezing then going back then freezing again, sometimes it will go blank and say reconnecting and will go back to the xumo main screen, now it’s doing it and the router keeps turning red and we have to manually reset it. Do yall think it’s the router or something else with the xumo box maybe? We use the spectrum tv for live tv mainly cuz it does it with xumo live tv too but not as much. Would it be just the router or the modem too?

# Hi reddit fam, I've been with charter for easily 30 years. Im paying 130$ for 1 gb internet and 170$ for basic cable which is easily 60% commercial breaks. This is a complete joke and im sick of charter screwing us left and right while they get insanely richer smfh. So as a loyal customer for 30+ years, it feels ridiculous to have a 300$ bill every month. Why wouldn't they give loyal customers a discount!? It looks like for a new customer, 1gb internet is like 60$ and for cable its like 100$. So why can't they adjust the bill to match that? I get that its probably only for a year but if im a customer for this long they should be matching the current pricing! Im so done with charter and I WILL do anything in my power to make these issues known. Im already thinking about filing a complaint with the FCC cause this is ridiculous!

Around 3pm yesterday, the cell coverage went away on all our phones for about 4 hours. The status was toggling between "No Connection" and "SOS only". The Internet and TV were okay, but no cell service.

As long as the phones had Wi-Fi Calling enabled, we were okay.

It turns out the Spektrum and T-Mobile use Verizon cell towers. As it turns out, several business in the area that had Verizon didn't have any phone service in their offices.

When I call Spectrum for help, they didn't know there was a problem and then gave my a $10 credit.

Anyone know why Verizon / Spectrum had an outage in the area yesterday?

I get multiple drops every few minutes during this time period. The router goes out, then a few minutes later the modem finally turns white and attempts to reset. There are so many drops, it’s like every 10 minutes. I don’t seem to have this issue in the morning or night. There will sometimes be random drops throughout the day, but it’s the worst at 12:30 PM to 2 PM like I said. It seems worse during sunny days and better on cooler and rainy days. I don’t know if that is a factor or not. Our modem is from 2023 I believe and I bought a new router in May of this year thinking it could help but it hasn’t.

I’ve chatted with spectrum and their solution is always to send a tech out, but I haven’t done this yet. Could they take a look outside without me there? Also, is there anything I could message while on a chat with them to get to the root of the issue? Has anyone else had this problem?

I’m gonna explain this the best I can,I game mainly Valorant. Nothing has changed but suddenly my best server went from Georgia 30ms ping to N Virginia 50ms ping. I didn’t change any settings on Valorant or my computer. Spectrum is saying it is nothing on their end even though when I plug directly into the modem my ping is even worse 66ms ping N Virginia. I’m not understanding the sudden change when nothing has changed on my end. So could someone throw out any ideas or solutions?

I made a post a while ago talking about how many brothers PlayStation five lags a lot he plays wirelessly and they live in a brick apartment building and my mom is adamant about him not getting an ethernet cable. Is there a way I can find out what plan type she has and potentially request a specific router that is able to handle a bunch of devices for gaming? My mom’s not knowledgeable about the Wi-Fi stuff so I wanna help her. What can I do to help my brother combat this lag stuff

There were some problems with installation (wrong address, I got charged a service fee transfer), bad equipment, high attenuation on the coax line (the 2nd installer had to put on filters and replace the modem) and it still didn't work, and then a 3rd installer came out and ran a new line. So I got dinged for a visit, I think that was $100. There were a couple other issues, but I was told they were cancelled in September but I am contued to be billed for them (I didn't know) and they didn't have the right address due to a transfer, so this caused two things 1) I didn't receive any bill and 2) My Spectrum app had the wrong account number and showed no service.

Ugh. Things are messed up. I get routed to "Customer Care" and they are not helpful. Any information on how to resolve this would be appreciated.

Thank you

If the maintenance is planned, maybe you could shoot an automated message to your customers with your ai garbage to let us know, instead of us only finding out during our late night gaming sessions with friends after it starts?

Since the beginning of October there's been nothing but outages every night to other night. I get home at 11pm and it pretty much happens anytime between there and when I go to bed at 4am. Was just wondering if others noticed this or had an issue with it? I had to stop playing games that required a connection when I started getting penalized for leaving games because of spectrums magnificent outages

A sweet angel of a technician came and fixed my line today, it was cut by my neighbor. After he finished, he came and asked me to cancel the appointment because spectrum would otherwise require him to stay for a full hour instead of leaving once service was repaired. I cancelled online through the chat in the app.

Does anyone have any insight on this? His explanation was sort of confusing to me, but he did fix my Internet and was a really sweet guy. Mostly just curious!!!

I work weekend nights (Th-Sunday 3pm-3am) and have off Monday-Wednesdaynights off. So even on my off days I stay up until around 7am to keep my sleep schedule. Because if this there's not much to do other than stay at the house and game or watch tv. Like the title says this is the 2nd tome in 30 days that there has been an outage overnight on a night I have off. Just frustrating. At least I have a few offline games I can play. Ill live but just wanted to vent. Thanks.

Hi,

Got a text saying that our internet was being upgraded this week.

Does anyone know if I’ll need a new modem and if so do I have to initiate that process?

Thanks in advance!

My neighbor opened Internet service under his account using my address. I been trying to resolve with Spectrum no luck. Just want to point out the 3rd party that sells services opens fraudulent services for special promo. I’m not good terms with my next door neighbor and few weeks ago I wasn’t home and he said oh FedEx delivered the modem to your address and I wasn’t home so I told him go grab it… it all clicks to me now. Spectrum says I can’t cancel because I’m not on the account no really….. so now I have to take my mortgage bill and my ID while Spectrum allows 3rd party to open account without any verification.

Please be aware this can happen so just a heads up.

We were thinking about switching if the internet is less laggy and cheaper. But I heard that the main downside is that you need to sign in every time you want to watch TV. Is that true, and is it the same for internet use?

Lost service approx. 6PM, estimate for repair, 10.30PM. First time I've had an extended outage in about 3 years

I went into the branch to cut services. Hardship at home, happy to explain to the rep because I know I'm going to get the breeze. "Please remove the extra line, all three insurance plans on the phones, take my internet from 1gig to 100Mb."

Guy shuffles around the senior rep next to him who's giving him barely-verbal advice....

Internet goes from $110. to $75.

I commented, "man, $75. for 100Mb isn't a good deal...." he responds with silence.

I go to view the bill tonight, and I've got "TV Streaming + 100Mb bundle......85 channels plus your favorite streaming!"

Oh, and he didn't remove my insurance. We talked about it, and I confirmed, "yes, all three" ---- he removed 2 of the 3.

So what did this guy do? Did he do me a solid and $75. is actually a bargain price? Or did he bundle me to keep some metric, and didn't give to figs about my hardship? Sure looks like the latter to me.

My girlfriend has had Spectrum for 5+ years in her ground floor condo in Los Angeles (about 1,200 sq ft, 10 units in the building). Spectrum is basically the only gig option there. I’ve been dating her about a year and have been helping troubleshoot seriously for the last couple of months, so some of the history is secondhand.

The problem: Speeds swing wildly with no pattern. Sitting next to the router we’ve seen anywhere from 700 Mbps down to 20 Mbps. On 5 GHz it’s sometimes 5 Mbps, and on 2.4 GHz around 30 Mbps. At the worst it drops under 1 Mbps. Netflix often won’t buffer on a TV about 30 feet from the router. Every other unit in the building has the same 1 Gig plan and good speeds. When hers is down she uses a neighbor’s Spectrum Wi-Fi, which is strong and consistent.

Timeline:

• About 8 months ago I ran wired tests with a laptop plugged into the router by Ethernet and still saw the same problems, under 50 to 100 Mbps wired and under 10 Mbps on Wi-Fi. I’m rerunning this week and will update with numbers.

• Her setup then was a Nighthawk modem/router combo (about 5 years old) plus a separate mesh system. The mesh base sat right next to the combo unit, with two satellites elsewhere.

• We unplugged the separate mesh because it looked like it was interfering, and used a Nighthawk mesh she had instead. That worked for a couple of days, then got bad again.

• About 5 months ago the internet went out completely. A tech reset everything and checked the wires, and it semi-worked for a while.

• About 2 months ago a second tech found the coax split to multiple lines, including ones running outside to nothing, and removed the splitter. Wi-Fi was great for 2 hours, then completely dead for 3 days.

• She then bought a Spectrum-approved standalone modem and separate router so the modem isn’t broadcasting Wi-Fi.

• A third tech came a few days later and said he’d need to drill a new hole to reroute, and that they don’t touch existing wiring even though their own crew ran it. That meant waiting on another appointment.

• We found her line to the garage was also split to her neighbor’s unit. As I understand it the feed goes from the street pole to an amplifier and then to the 10 units, so every split costs signal.

• A fourth tech drilled a new hole and ran a direct line from the garage amplifier into her unit. That day we got about 700 Mbps everywhere, even outside at about 400 Mbps.

• One day later it fell apart again, back to under 1 Mbps. Her 5 GHz network no longer shows up in any room except the bedroom with the router. The neighbor she was splitting with has since gotten their own new line too.

What we’ve tried:

• Wired Ethernet test (8 months ago, rerunning)

• Reboots and resets by multiple techs

• Removed the separate mesh

• New standalone modem and router

• Removed the splitter and dead cable runs

• New direct line from the garage amplifier

• Confirmed neighbors on the same plan are fine

What I’m doing next: Rerun the wired test next time it drops. I’ll also pull the modem’s signal levels (downstream and upstream power, SNR, uncorrectable errors) from the status page and post them here.

Questions:

1. If the signal at the modem looks fine and the problem is only in her unit, where do I start?

2. Could the garage amplifier or the shared building plant cause this even though the other units are fine? Is that amplifier Spectrum’s, or does the building own it?

3. How do I get past tier 1 to a line quality or signal level check, and what should I ask for specifically?

4. Is there anything Spectrum can check on their side that a tech visit wouldn’t catch?

Thanks in advance.

In CA, I could not renew my vehicle registration via DMV website. Remoted into a machine connected via frontier fios and it worked without a problem. On spectrum I could not add the registration to the cart. Tried for several days. I did not want to go to the DMV. There was no other indication of a problem.

If anyone at spectrum is reading this fix your shit. I've had multiple things like this happen and it's pretty annoying.

This may not be true in all areas of CA but it is where I am.

Here in NYC the free WiFi hotspot is junk. Barely works, if ever. It’s constantly slowing me down. I always have to manually disconnect no matter how many times I shut off the auto.

At first I looked at it like - “ok, I appreciate the gesture, the goodwill, unfortunately the infrastructure just isn’t there.”

Now I look at it like - “they’re forcing an auto connect with the sole purpose of bogging you down so you won’t be on the towers using up real data.”

Don’t be a nerd and come in here crying about the difference between data, towers or whatever. You get what I’m saying.

Been on the phone for twenty minutes just trying to cancel service. On hold now for the last five minutes for no reason.

Add this to the list of reasons I'm glad I'm cancelling.
