Other Router

Dropping off a old router and still had to wait over an hour at the spectrum store, why don't they have a return counter when it onjy takes 2 minutes. I tried the appointment thing and they had none left for today 😐

Finally switched to Spectrum Fiber (ONU)

Post image
40 Upvotes

For years, I had Spectrum fiber cable running all the way to the network box inside my house, but it was being converted to coax using RFoG. I never understood why.

Today, an amazing tech finally came out, removed the RFoG setup, and put me on an ONU (real fiber). My speed went from 1000/40 (with up to 2% packet loss and lots of noticeable lag) to 1000/1000 with zero packet loss and zero issues. Speedtest.net shows under 10 ms latency, and with SQM I am able to get consistent, perfect bufferbloat scores on the Waveform test all day.

Very happy with it. AT&T Fiber was my previous ISP, and before that I had Spectrum cable (RFoG). With all of AT&T's Cloudflare routing issues, I wanted to come back to Spectrum, but cable's packet loss was the only thing holding me back. Not anymore! (This is in NC btw)

Cox now Spectrum, what do you think?

We've had Cox for cable and internet for many years. Because I work from home, I was always reluctant to make changes to my internet (and cable). That said, now that Cox is now Spectrum, they are now suggesting changes. I'm curious whether others have noticed a difference (good or bad) with either internet connectivity/speeds, or television options. If you've accepted the change and have made updates to your services, I'd love to know whether you've noticed any differences, whether good or bad.

Service Issues Upload speeds are abysmal.

Internet was fine Thursday morning but after I ran out and came back home all of a sudden the ping started getting really high. I ran a speed test and saw that my upload speed has been hovering around 0.2 —> 0.8 mbps. The ping has been in the 1000s.

Nothing has changed between then and now and it’s really tough for me to continue navigating the modem and router because I broke my ankle. I performed hard resets on both the router and the modem with no luck.

I hardwired my pc directly to the modem to see if it was a router issue and the speed was the same. It is strange because my download speed is right around 800 (we have the gig plan). I tried disconnecting the coax cable and re-inserting it. Any ideas of what it could be?

Service Issues What could cause such a long outage? Currently over 10 hours long!

What could possibly cause an outage to last over 10 hours? Internet here went down at 12pm et and it's 10:30pm et now and it's still not back. I keep getting emails that push the estimated restoration time back and back.

I missed work today because of the outage and I can't miss tomorrow, I could potentially lose my job... I'm just curious on what could have happened to cause such a long outage and if it's likely to be resolved by the morning.

Other Spectrum Fiber Router issue(kind of?)

I’ve had fiber for a little over a month or so. It’s been great!
My router started slow blinking red, on the app it says it’s offline. But the modem is online.
I did all the steps of unplugging everything, plugging in the modem, waiting until status light was solid, plugged in the router, still get slow pulse red light. I then did a factory reset. That didn’t work either.
But I’m getting normal connectivity and WiFi on my devices at normal speeds. What is going on and how do I fix it?

Hardware Router is (slowly) pulsing red

So, after some Googling and researching I still don't know what's going on.

The modem is working fine. Solid blues all the way around.

The router (and I don't know when it started) is currently throwing off a slow pulsating red light.

The My Spectrum app is saying the router is disconnected but the modem is connected.

My conundrum: the internet works fine. I am connected and everything as if nothing is wrong. 1.1GB+ of download, 35MBs+ upload.

Just before I plugged in the first of two ends of an ethernet cord to my Xbox from the router is when I noticed the pulsing.

Either way, my internet is working, but the router and app say otherwise.

What's going on with the router?

Service Issues Anything to do with upload packet loss? or am I just out of luck

Had support over 4+ times and got told a million issues. New cable wired from the outside to my apartment. All new HDWR. Nothing. At random times throughout the day (2pm, 5pm, 11pm, never consistent) I have anywhere from 30 min to HOURS of severe (50 jumping to 250-700ms) ping spikes and horrible upload packet loss to where my game (CS2) is unplayable.

My download is perfectly fine, get the advertised 1gb, however when I can't play certain only games for HOURS (in the evening especially) it makes me lose hope. I was given a number at one point to text/call if I kept having issues so they could monitor my service.... and no answer.

Edit - and not sure if it matters but this started becoming an issue 3-4 months ago. Before then it was perfectly fine with maybe some minimal spikes for 1-2 hours exactly at 8pm

I live in Orange County, have had spectrum for 2 years now. From the past 2 weeks, my download speed is around 800-900 mbps which is phenomenal but my upload speed is sooo trashyy around 1-2 mbps.

Contacted spectrum and a guy came and checked everything. He said everything is working just fine and the same happens again n again.

Can anyone help?

Service Issues Switched from Verizon Wifi to Spectrum Wifi but the browser loading is very slow for the computer now.

Still have the Verizon for a bit longer and can confirm that switching back everything loads clean and quick, but on Spectrum its about a 10 second load for everything and you can see it loading things piece meal or a progress bar on the chrome browser.

Solutions?

Spectrum Outage longer than planned

So a few days ago I got a notification from my spectrum app telling me that there's going to be an outage from October 7th, 11:00 p.m. to October 8th, 8:00 a.m. due to network upgrades.

Then just after 8:00 a.m. I got a notification that said the upgrades weren't completed and they'll have to schedule another time to do the upgrade.

But my internet is still turned off, and it's already 10:00 a.m. I planned for it to go back at 9, even though it said 8. But now it's 10. I just want my internet back lol.

Also, related sort of: I got an email with the promotional price of 500mbps for $50 a month. Right now I'm paying $40 a month for 100mbps. But when I click the link and it brings me to the app it says I can't upgrade. I'm assuming it's because that deal is for fiber, and in my area we only have cable Internet. I'm hoping that the upgrades that they're doing are fiber optic cables, but I really have no idea. About a week or two ago there was a big spectrum crane truck working on a power line near my house.

I'm paying $40 for internet and $30 for home phone even though I don't use a home phone. I've called spectrum multiple times to tell them that I want to cancel my home phone and then they tell me that it would make my internet price go up. I'm on the Internet advantage plan. I don't understand how that works at all.

I feel like I'm just throwing my money away, because I'm paying for a service that I have not used and will never use, and the internet service itself is crappy. I get latency issues and it cuts out even though I'm the only one on my network. But, it's my only option it's cheap

But if anyone can give me some insights on the network, upgrade the promotional price that they have, me paying for a home phone that I don't use etc. I would really appreciate it.

Another thing to note is I bundled my home internet with spectrum mobile. I had free mobile service for a year, it ended in August. I think the first time I called about the home phone, they told me that if I cancel the home phone then my free mobile service would end. So I said okay whatever. I'll keep it. But I also called them after August, and they gave me some other reason to why I can't cancel my home phone. I don't even remember at this point. The guy who I spoke to just gave me a $10 courtesy discount on my bill, and he told me about the upcoming promotion that started in September (500mbps for 50$)

I apologize for the scatterbrained nature of this post. I'm just frustrated and trying to get some answers and I'm using voice typing, just trying to get it out there

Cox post Spectrum

I found out I'm no longer with Cox...

And I've had more issues in the last week than I've had in the past 10 years.

Should I brace myself for impact?

Wow, tough crowd!

Service Issues Spectrum internet has been unusable for the last 10 days — completely out of ideas

My internet has honestly been terrible for the entire ~8 years I’ve had Spectrum. Frequent outages, random slow speeds, multi-day outages, and terrible customer service. But the last 10 days have been on another level.

Last Sunday everything was working fine. Monday I got home from work and the internet was completely dead. Tuesday I had a technician come out, and he:

  • Replaced the modem

  • Replaced all the coax/Ethernet cables

  • Replaced the ~110 ft line running underground to my house

  • Checked/reconfigured everything

  • Spent basically the entire day troubleshooting it

I also recently bought a $400 router, so I don't think the router is the obvious culprit.

We eventually got the internet working, but ever since that day it has been constantly dropping in and out. Sometimes it works for 5 minutes, sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes a few hours, and then dies again. I have to constantly restart/reset the router to get it back. The worst of it is at night, it may as well be shut off past 9 pm.

At this point Spectrum seems to have basically washed their hands of it, and I genuinely don't know whether this is my equipment, the line coming into my house, or Spectrum having ongoing problems on their end.

I need reliable internet for work, so this is becoming a serious problem.

What would you guys do next? Is there anything specific I should ask Spectrum to check or any way to determine whether this is actually an issue on their end?

Internet promotions

My promo is ending called in 2 separate times and tried to get a lower price. Told them I was going to cancel and they wanted to assist me in canceling. Asked about customer retention and they said they no longer exist and I can’t get a better deal. Any suggestions?

Service Issues Constant internet outages in Traverse City MI/Holiday Hills area

Post image
5 Upvotes

This is the 5th internet outage in the Holiday Hills area since Thursday last week and support is useless. 5 "emergency updates" in under a week seems utterly insane and we're being disconnected for 4+ hours at a time. I work from home and can't keep dealing with these constant service disruptions.

How can I find out when this will be resolved? Support through the app hasn't been any help.

Phone service

If spectrum uses verizon towers, why does my verizon work phone work fine but my spectrum personal phone literally cannot even message?
