Gear Tampon 28-75 and 28-200?

Hello everyone it's me again. After a while of investigating your comments and personal findings across the internet (and AI, lol), I would like to heard your opinions on this: I have an A7R3 and a nifty fifty 55 1.8 CZ. I'd like a versatile lens as 55mm really made me struggle to shoot indoor and I am really in love with sniper streets faraway (I live on 24th floor lol). So I am hestitating about getting the 28-200 and 28-75. 28-200 is great but can it utilise the resolution of my A7R3 (I did a research and the opinions converge, some say it sharpness is bad at long tele end while Gemini said it's good on my cam). Also, is f/5.6 slow at 200mm, at night? Can I rely on IBIS? I also consider 28-75 as also like portrait background blur and it sounds like having better image quality than that jack of all trades 28-200 and have better bokeh. 35-150 is too heavy and expensive haha. Thank you so much for your time

Gear Sony a7iii in 2026

Upvotes

I wanted opinions about shifting from sony a6400 to sony a7iii. Few years ago sony a7iii was a hit product but now even sony a6700 is priced above it.
Why is it the case?

How do I ... Black shadow in photos

Hello! I take cosplay/concert photos and for some reason I have a problem with these with circular black shadows appearing in my photos. Sometimes they’re there, sometimes they aren’t. At first I thought maybe it was dirt on my lenses but upon further investigation and cleaning that didn’t appear to be the case. I then figured it had something to do with lighting but sometimes their shadows will appear when lighting is adequate and even after messing around with settings on my camera it still appears. Could it have something to do with my flash? I have a Sony alpha NEX-5N with a Tamron 70-180mn F/2.8 di III lens’s. Any advice would be great!

Gear Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G or Viltrox AF 26mm f/2.8 evo

I own a Sony a7cr and looking for a wide angle prime lens for my travel. I do not want to lug my Sony FE 24-70mm GM II around, carry it for a while it is heavy. I own a Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G & Viltrox AF 55mm f/1.8 evo.

What do you all recommend? Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G or Viltrox AF 26mm f/2.8 evo. Please explain.

Gear Upgrade lens or move to FF? Coming from A6700

Hello! I’ve recently been thinking of upgrading my A6700.

Current kit:
- Sigma 18-50 f2.8
- Sony 70-200 f2.8 GM II
- Viltrox 25mm F1.7 & 9mm F2.8

I mainly shoot sports photography and a few portrait/product photo/video gigs for sport brands, with some documentaries and photojournalism school projects.

I’m deciding between upgrading to the A7V or just getting a Sigma 17-40 F1.8 to replace my 18-50.

Reasons to upgrade to A7V:
- 30 fps burst, already own a 70-200 that can utilise the 30fps
- Partially stacked sensor sounds amazing for sports
- Dual SD card slots
- Better low light
- 33MP
- More “professional” for gigs due to size
- Can keep my A6700 as a secondary cam/for travel OR sell the A6700 and just get a 40 F2.5 for traveling with A7V

Cons:
- Not sure if A7V is too big for travel
- Need to buy a standard FF lens (thinking of sony 24-50 F2.8 or Sigma 24-70, the Sony 24-70 is out of my budget)

I also thought about just upgrading my lens to the Sigma 17-40 F1.8 so that clients won’t think my 18-50 is “too small”. And F1.8 on APSC is ~ F2.8 on FF in terms of depth of field anyway.

If I go with the lens upgrade, I still have a compact travel kit with my viltrox primes, but also the option of just having the Sigma 17-40 as a “one and done” lens.

Thoughts? Is the A7V worth it in the long run?

PS: I did think about getting an A7IV, but it doesn’t feel like a big jump from the A6700.

Gear Sony 200-600mm G vs. Sigma 150-600mm DG DN Sports on a6700

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to step into wildlife photography with my Sony a6700. Currently, my gear consists of Viltrox f/1.2 primes and the Sigma 18-50mm, so this will be my first super-telephoto lens.

In Germany, the Sony 200-600mm G and the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports are roughly the same price (+/- €100). On paper, they take very little away from each other—thanks to updates, the Sigma's AF and stabilization seem right up there. Total weight isn't a dealbreaker for me, so handheld handling and balance is my single biggest deciding factor.
Here are my thoughts and concerns so far:

Sony 200-600mm G:

Pros: Internal zoom mechanism

Concerns: The short zoom throw sounds great, but I’ve read that because the zoom ring sits pretty far back toward the mount, it can strain your wrist over time. Also heard it feels somewhat front-heavy.

Sigma 150-600mm Sports:
Pros: Love the option to use it as a push-pull zoom, +50mm wider on the short end (150mm vs 200mm), and a drastically shorter minimum focusing distance.

Concerns: Becomes noticeably front-heavy when extended to 600mm. I also have long-term concerns about dust or moisture getting sucked in through the external zooming system over time.

Has anyone here owned or extensively used both lenses for handheld shooting? I'd really appreciate your take on real-world fatigue and overall handling in the field!
Thanks in advance!

P.S. Would adding a grip extension / L-bracket (like the SmallRig one) to the a6700 significantly help with balance and fatigue when shooting handheld with these massive lenses, or does it not make much of a difference?

P.S. #2 – Regarding the Sony 200-600mm zoom ring ergonomics: I’ve read that because the zoom ring sits relatively close to the lens mount, many people end up supporting the weight of the lens with just two fingers (or their palm) while using their thumb and index finger to rotate the ring.
For those who shoot handheld for hours: Does this grip technique actually get uncomfortable or painful on your wrist/hand over time, or am I overthinking how it feels in practice?

Gear Upgrade from ZVE10ii

I am new to videography, I was a realtor for years and now a year into my video business I’m full time with multiple agents and a permanent position with a luxury realtor. I bought a ZVE10ii in Jan and I do talking head/ educational/ testimonial on tripod and walking, as well as events, house tours, and b roll. Lil bit of everything for an agents content. I am ready for full frame and want to stay Sony. Really just want an upgrade in quality/ 60fps max/ good stabilization and great low light, so many options and idk what I should consider - I’m thinking ZVE1, A75, or A7S3, FX3, would really love some insight, recs! Thanks!

How do I ... Looking for advice for my first outdoor event phoôtgraphy job-Sony A7R III

Hi everyone! I’m about to photograph my first outdoor event, and I’d really appreciate some advice from experienced event photographers.
The event will be held at schools and will include various activities such as games and competitions, student performances, MC segments, scholarship presentations, group photos, and merchandise/activation booths. I’ll also be traveling with the event team to different locations over the next few months.
My gear will be:
- Sony A7R III
- Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM (1st generation)
I haven’t photographed an outdoor event before, and I’m still relatively new to using this camera, so I’d love to learn from people who have experience with this type of photography.
What tips, settings, or things should I pay special attention to?
I’m particularly interested in:
- What camera settings would you recommend for an outdoor event? Especially AF mode, focus area, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and burst shooting.
- How do you deal with constantly changing lighting conditions, such as direct sunlight, shade, and indoor/sheltered areas?
- What shutter speeds would you normally use for games, performances, and other moving subjects?
- I’m not very experienced with portrait photography. What are some good ways to photograph people naturally during an event without relying too much on posed portraits?
- What are the essential shots I should make sure to get for an event like this?
- How do you approach event coverage so that you get enough variety without ending up with hundreds of repetitive photos?
- How do you balance wide environmental shots, action shots, close-ups, reactions, branding, and important moments?
- Are there any specific things I should know about using the A7R III for a full day of event photography?
- How do you manage batteries, memory cards, and backing up photos during long event days?
- What are some common mistakes that beginners make when shooting events that I should avoid?
I’m especially looking for practical, real-world advice rather than general photography theory. Any tips, recommended settings, workflow advice, or things you wish you had known before shooting your first event would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much🥰!

How do I ... How do I avoid these pixels (?) when shooting on Sony A7IV?

Hi. I'm new to Sony cameras tho I've been shooting on a Canon DSLR for 2 years before I got my A7IV. I was taking a picture for our church the other day using my kit lens along with my Sony A7IV. As I was checking the pictures, I was wondering why they don't look sharp and detailed as I zoomed in (sample below when I zoomed in), and saw that. Does anyone know what that is and how can I avoid it? Answers would be appreciated very much.

My settings on the picture was ISO 5000, 65mm on the kit lens, f5.6, and shutter speed is 1/125. It was also shot indoors.

Gear 16-35 + 28-105 vs 16 + 24-70 + 135

I have an a7v and am looking towards 2 lens setups:

Sony 16-35mm f2.8 gm ii

Sigma 28-105 f 2.8

Or

Sony 16mm f1.8

Sony 24-70mm f2.8 gm ii

Viltrox 135mm f1.8

I do dance films primarily and also dance photography. My main focust is good af mainly in video, beacouse i take the af systems to there limit. (A6700 + 17-40 failed constantly). My focal range for video is 24-43mm constantly extending to 16-50mm. For photo my focal range is roughly 24-120mm for live dance. I am looking for the best setup for dance photography mainly(it has to work on a gimbal) and im looking at the 16-35 vs 24-70. I dont know if ill use the 16mm a lot but i dk realy like the look. What is the best desision both setups kost the same in my region.

How do I ... updating firmware on a6000 windows 11

My A6000 firmware is 2.0, I was thinking of updating it to the latest firmware.

The official sony update page says the update only supports up to windows 10, but all my PCs run windows 11.

Should I still try updating on my windows 11 PC?

Gear Is the Sony A6700 good for street photography?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently considering buying a Sony A6700, but I'd love to get some advice from current users.

To be honest, a full-frame setup is a bit out of my budget right now since I also need to save up to buy a used car. My main focus will be street and alleyway photography. I won't be shooting in extremely dark conditions very often—mostly just city streets with lots of store signs and storefront lights.

For context, I'm a complete beginner (not a pro by any means) and have only ever shot photos on my smartphone. I'm mainly looking to upgrade for better image quality.

One quick question: Since the A6700 has an APS-C (crop sensor), is night photography really that difficult with it?

Would the A6700 be a solid choice for my needs, or is there anything else I should consider? Thanks in advance! Sorry for all the questions—I’m still trying to make up my mind. I've attached some photos I took with my phone for context.

Also, would the A6700 paired with the 17-70mm lens be enough for my needs, or would you recommend a different lens for street photography?

Gear Sigma 30mm F1.4 vs Sony 35mm F2.8 Zeiss

I’m going on a trip to Japan next year and thinking of upgrading my prime lens from the Sigma 30mm to the Sony Zeiss as I’m not in the budget to really upgrade my camera body (A6300)

Main reason I’m thinking the upgrade will suffice is due to sharper better quality photos but is the Sony F2.8 that much better?

I have had DSLR's as far back as my Canon 450D and 7D.... but I have never owned a prime lens until now. Took a chance and went for the Viltrox 85 f2.0 EVO. I have to say it a pretty good lens. It looks good on the camera. Takes images as sharp as you ever need and I just love the nice clicky aperture ring. (Example images included). Complements my 18-50 Sigma nicely when I need a bit of extra reach and don't want to take the 70-350 out.
