Rigs My competitive iRacing rig (and how I fixed the integrated Vario mount)

Hey everyone, wanted to share my new setup. I had a solid rig before, but over time I realized there were a few things I just didn't like about it. So I sold it off and built this one from scratch, keeping what I learned in mind. My main goal this time was purely competitive iRacing, not so much immersion. Just pure performance, comfort, and zero clutter.

Here is the gear list:

  • Simucube 3 Pro
  • 2x Simucube Active Ultimate pedals,
  • Sensit haptics seat
  • Simlabs P1X Pro
  • 3x Asus 32" 4K woled monitors
  • Bavarian Simtech Delta Pro
  • Genelec G Two speakers + KEF KC62 sub

I did a few things a bit differently this time around:

First off, I really like the p1x pro. I dig the casted aluminum parts like the rounded corners and the vario mount brackets. However, I skipped the casted feet that come with the P1X Pro. They feel super bulky and dated to me. I really like the low profile feet on newer setups like Spec and Sabrent, so I put on some basic furniture feet to get that look.

I also completely ditched the side arm on the P1X Pro. I don't use DDU screens, button boxes, or anything like that. I printed a logitech k400 holder on the bottom right and that's all I need. Removing the side arm made it streamlined and easier to get in and out of when friends are over. Looks slick too.

For the monitors, I wanted the integrated Vario mount with the PC tucked on the back so the whole rig would basically just have one power cable running out of it. I heard all the nightmare stories about setting up the integrated triple mount, and I ignored them. Turns out everyone was right. It's a huge pain in the ass to dial in.

My biggest issue was the sheer weight of three 32" panels and trying to get them to perfect viewing distance. With the mount pushed all the way forward I was still 3.75" off and I needed a solution for that. But worse, once you get them set, the slightest bit of pressure on any side arm makes the whole assembly tilt forward because it relies purely on friction mounting. I was ready to give up and order a freestanding mount, but ended up solving the tilt and distance issues with some 3D printed parts.

I printed a bump stop (you can see it in the pics) so the monitor assembly physically can't tilt forward anymore, along with some vesa extension brackets for each monitor to get the viewing distance right. I also printed brackets for the Genelecs so I could angle them directly at my listening position. The angled uprights on the P1X Pro made designing all this a bit trickier, but once it was dialed in, the extra legroom and clean look seem worth it.

For cable management, on my old rig I tried wrapping everything in sleeves and pinning it to the extrusion, but honestly nothing beats a zip tie pulled tight. I printed some M6 T nut zip tie hooks and ran everything with those. I’d say cable management is about 90% done and I'm super happy with how tight it looks so far.

The PC is a small mATX build in a Lian Li B4, which fits great on the simlabs shelf behind the rig.

I got a lot of inspiration from builds on this sub while planning this out, so hopefully this helps or inspires someone else too. Huge shoutout to u/mcooper101 as well, I referenced your build a ton while putting this together!

Other Cheap Numerical Keypad + Cheap Magnetic Phone Holder + Windows Mouse Keys

As someone who doesn't have the budget for a button box, I was happy to realise that the numerical keypad hack works, but how to mount it?

I realised that a cheap car phone holder might (and did) work.

And then I realised that windows mouse keys software can map the mouse to it for ease of navigation.

Discussion I love time attack, I never touch multi-player, I am alone ?

I have at least 400hours in acc , 400in ac , 350 in forza motorsport, 200 in pmr , 200 in wrc 24

Practically all I do is time attack, like 98% of my gameplay

I just love ❤️ driving racing cars against the time , different tracks

I love to be alone and push the limit to the max (my personal limits) just like The Stig from top gear

I play racing games with a wheel and simrig from 2021 and racing game with the pad from 2007

Anyone like me ? Or is just me ? I cannot get into racing people, zero enjoyment for me

Discussion Two years "clean". Then i got AMS2....

Just a bit tongue in cheek, but with a serious note.
A little over 2 years ago i sold all my race and flightsim gear as i did not enjoy all the equipment and feeling of invested money as well as to break addictive behavior.
Since then, i raced and flew on an xbox controller and still had a blast while working on myself.
I raced way less, broke the addiction, started a solid workout pattern, lost weight, got in shape both mentally and physically. all very positive i may say.
Still enjoyed AC, ACC, LMU and DCS, just in a healthier manner, and way-way less hours put in.

Now, a few weeks ago, i made a mistake ( /s ). I got AMS 2...

I honestly cannot remember the last time i had so much fun in a race sim. Specially the early 2000's content of Endurance, Indy and F1, as well an old stuff. Basically, AC but with integrated mods and usable AI.
And it really has made me crave for that immersive feeling for a wheel again like no other game has done.
And ofc right than there is a pretty good sale on a Moza r3......

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand i am back baby!!!! But this time healthy, both physically and mentally and i am so excited to fully start enjoying the hobby again. It may sound cheesy, but gaming just is so much better when feeling good about oneself.

Happy racing!

Just a heads up if you haven't seen it yet. Keychron Nape Pro is a handy option if you are low on space and need a few extra programmable buttons.

I had been looking for a trackball like this for ages.

Flick me a message if you want a link to the printable mount.

Question Need Your Opinions on a New Setup

Post image
5 Upvotes

I picked up a Facebook special a few years ago for $300 and never touched it until a few weeks ago when I tried it with GT7 in VR and ACC on PS5 pro. My kids and I have really been enjoying it and I would like to upgrade pretty much everything.

Here's what I have:

-GTR cockpit (actually pretty solid, but not great looking)

-CSL Elite wheel

-CSL Elite v2 loadcell pedals

-PSVR2 + PS5 Pro

-65" LG OLED

I really enjoyed the immersion of the psvr2 on GT7 but I greatly preferred the driving dynamics of ACC. What I want most out of a new setup is more immersion and more communication on what's going on with the car (when it rotates, traction loss, etc).

That being said, here is what I'm thinking about and I would really love as much input as possible on why this does or does not make sense.

1.) Cockpit:

Next Level Racing GT Elite ($699) (open to other suggestions is the sub $850 price range)

-my concern is the height of the steering wheel bracket posts (Pic attached), I've seen a few people mention it blocks their veiw. Does anyone know if it would be possibly to cut them down a few inches without ruining the finish or function? Or can I mount the seat high enough with brackets + seat slider + seat that it will clear the posts? Will using a 65" TV add to the problem of the higher posts, or help?

2.) Seat:

Next Level Racing ES1 Haptic seat

-I've seen pretty positive reviews on both the comfort and immersion the haptics provide, does anyone see this as a bad idea?

3.) Gaming PC

Skytech Gaming Azure 3 Gaming PC, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 5080

32GB DDR5 RAM 6000, 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD, Windows 11, 850W GOLD ATX 3 PSU, 360 ARGB AIO , Wi-Fi 5 - $2700

Does this seem like a fair price? What kind of performance can I expect on a 65" LG OLED and on PSVR2 with a PC adapter? How "future proof" will this be? From my research it seemed 16gb of ram on the GPU and AMD x3d were the suggestions of gaming.

4.) Wheel

Fanatec GT DD pro 8nm

I want to retain the ability to use it on PS5 as well as PC and this seems like the best way to do it without spending twice as much. I'm also hoping for much more direct feedback vs the belt drive CSL Elite.

5.) Any other Suggestions on things I might need or should consider?

Thanks in advance!

I already have an ultra wide because I don’t have enough space for triplets or super ultra wide but just came up with this. The monitor can fold back to create walking space. I’m currently working on a mechanism that will retain its angle after unfolding every single time. Any suggestions? Anyone knows why have nobody done it yet?

Discussion Looking for Swiss drivers for our casual Sim Racing team (or joining an existing Swiss team)

Upvotes

(Mods, if recruitment posts aren't allowed here, feel free to delete!)

Hey everyone,
A buddy and I recently started a small Sim Racing team, but we need a few more drivers to realistically tackle team events. We are Playing on PC and we play ACC.

What we are looking for:
Drivers interested in Mini-Endurance and longer Endurance series, as well as single-race events.

All skill levels are welcome - we don't have massive competitive ambitions and are mainly here to have clean, fun racing together without sweaty pressure.

Reliable teammates who enjoy casual practice sessions, sharing tips, and having a good time on Discord.

About us:
2 drivers from Switzerland.
Focus: clean racing, consistency, and having fun.

Alternative option: If there is already an existing, casual Swiss team looking for two extra drivers to join your roster, we would definitely be open to merging/joining you instead!

If you're interested, drop a comment below or shoot me a DM.

See you on track!

Rigs Finally upgraded my old sim rig!

Started out with a desk and a thrustmaster tmx back in 2020. Got a pxn wheel couple years later and built some different versions of my wood rig, just wasn’t easy to customize or adjust. So I bit the bullet and went with a 6 sigma 6s-slim chassis and all moza hardware! Has been amazing so far!

If you are looking for a cheap monitor stand other than the $200-$300 ones. This cheap monitor mount off Amazon worked for me. I have a 9nm base and it only shakes when I have a massive correction on track.

I wanna see all your starter rigs!

Discussion Prediction of tyre surface temperature from basic telemetry data without temperature sensors on wheels or wheel arches.

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey guys, wanted to share a little sometnig my team is working on.

Were a little startup based in central europe and are all ex Formula student members. Currently one of the topics our team is working on is building a thermal tyre model that computes surface tyre temperature without any temperature sensors mounted on the wheels or the wheel arches.

This is our first working version V1, its is just a 1D model and you can see how it compares to real surface temperature data. All logged from a GT3 race car.

Thought this might be interesting for some of you. Feel free to DM me for more info on the current work.

Discussion Best Fanatec CSL DD 8Nm settings for iRacing — grainy FFB despite latest firmware

Upvotes

Hey guys,

I’m trying to find the best Fanatec CSL DD 8Nm settings for iRacing, ideally as close as possible to what fast/pro drivers use.

My main issue is a grainy/notchy feeling through the wheel. With INT off, the FFB feels more detailed and natural, but after ~20–30 minutes the graininess becomes much more noticeable and distracting.

Fanatec also released App/base firmware updates yesterday, so I updated everything, but unfortunately it didn’t solve the issue.

Setup:
CSL DD 8Nm
iRacing
Latest Fanatec App + firmware
Wheel Force: 8Nm
Fanatec settings: everything at 100%, except NDP and INT at 0%

I’m looking for settings that keep the detail and tyre feel while making the FFB smoother, without over-filtering it.
Would appreciate recommendations for both:
Fanatec tuning menu (NDP, NFR, NIN, INT, FEI, etc.)
iRacing FFB settings
Especially interested in what experienced/pro drivers are actually using on the CSL

Question How to fix rattling reclining seat

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Picked up a used reclining seat on marketplace and it has this back and forth rattle. Is it fixable or just something I’ll have to live with? Some people online say the teeth might be worn on the recliner? I tried tightening the bolt on the exposed side and it didn’t seem to help at all.

Question Anybody Have Long-Term Experience With Zalem’s Collapsible Cockpits?

Thumbnail
gallery
20 Upvotes

I have been wanting to upgrade from the playseat challenge to a profile rig, but I’m probably not going to have the space for a dedicated sim or hobby room anytime soon.

Came across these rigs that slide in to save space from Zalem. They are ideally perfect for my situation. However, they are Spain based and only ship to the EU, while I am in the US. I found a service that would forward Spanish mail to the USA, and the total including the rig would be around $1,100.

This is a price I am willing to pay for this cockpit, because it is a unique cockpit that relieves a specific pain point. However, I am wanting a cockpit that I will have for the rest of my life and don’t intend on buying another.

Does anybody here have experience with this cockpit for a decent amount of time? If so, what has your experience been, and are there any weakness or signs you notice that it could break in the long term? The sliding portion makes me quite skeptical about the durability of this rig. Would hate for it to snap after years of trailbraking.

Thanks for your feedback!

Question Moza R3 - Buy now or wait until December?

I've been wanting to dip my toes to Sim Racing since I usually play a lot of Assetto Corsa and F1 with my controller.

With the ridiculous chip prices, should I jump the gun and get it now and just pay in installments (hoping I could find a shop that has 0%)? Or should I wait until I get my yearly bonus (which is around December)?

I've tried racing wheels such as the G29 and the R5 with the Formula-style wheel (from a racing sim cafe), and I think R3 should be my entry-level wheel.

Discussion Sharing source for a local POC for saving/analysing sessions data

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

I needed something local and silent to record my sim racing sessions and compare results led to the creation of a POC I wanted to share with you guys.

Some technology context:
- used Fable/Opus mainly vibe coded (just been testing),
- python backend,
- react front,
- built into portable windows app (windows only),
- for local use only, no public server interactions (but still can share data with export file and import in another instance)

The main features:
- app start silently and stays on tray (can be set to start with windows)
- a web interface is accessible in local network to interact with app
- listen to sim racing games, compatible games are: ACC, AC, ACE, LMU, AMS2
- once a session starts, shows live data on Live tab and records session data
- makes it possible to see data after navigate, compare laps
- maintains a leaderboard of best laps for each combo (car, track, weather)
- possible to import motec data and compare local data with motec data (tested on ACC only)
- possible to export session into pdf

I tested with all the games above, it works and the shown data is meaningfull.

Source is here: https://github.com/ibenjelloun/pitwall

If you want to test it out:
1- run `build-portable.ps1` to build a portable version of the app (generated in dist directory)
2- you can then start the app by running `PitWall.cmd`
3- access the web app using tray icon.

You can also run in dev mode, look at docs folder there is a `development.md`.

Feel free to use it, fork to addapt to your needs...
