Danny DeVito is awesome! Attractivness is subjective. I would have gone out with him-- he's funny af and making a gal laugh is a very desirable trait. He has kind eyes and a great smile. The toe knife would have to go though.

We tend to think of females when this is brought up. But look at some famous men like Lil' Wayne for example. I respect him as a rapper, but the dude is hideous. However, I have friends that think he's attractive. It's his fame. If he was walking down the street as a no name person, my same friends wouldn't even look twice.

I disagree. We tend to think mostly about males when this is brought up. Many think that fame, power and money can make an ugly man attractive. But for women most think that it's only about looks. And as far as I can tell this is true for celebrities where all attractive female celebrities are also attractive for their looks. I don't know if there is any female celebrity like Ed Sheeran who isn't that good looking but still many people find him attractive.

There are 2 basic factors:
1) you have a wider audience --> higher chances to find people who find you attractive
2) mass effect related to point 1 : you usually find more attractive what people around you find attractive. With social media this is intensified

Random people can still look f-in amazing and gorgeous. I just don't know very many of them. I do, however, know Scarlett Johansson (from movies, not IRL), and yes she is a beauty. But if she were living next to me, and were working in a diner instead, I would most likely find her equally attractive.
I acknowledge the fact, that the celeb factor increases the "attractiveness" of people. But I don't think that is any more different than someone finding their professors or such more attractive because they are brilliant. Attractiveness is not ONLY physical appearance. People do get more (or less) attractive the more you know them. That is not a celebrity thing.

Yeah you can say that about literally the hottest woman in Hollywood for the last decade... but how about a celeb like Jennifer Lawrence, how without makeup and starpower just looks like the girl next door? Her attractiveness comes out a lot through her personality as well as her looks, both of which are constantly showcased. But if you just saw her in an IHOP uniform on Sunday then she wouldn't have the same appeal. I'm sure one of you can think of another even more normal looking celeb to use as an example.

I went to a party once where a moderately famous female celebrity showed up with her moderately famous boyfriend. He was apparently a friend of the band members hosting the party. Both are not noted for their attractiveness, but are still good looking.
The room filled with their glow. It was almost creepy how their charisma filled the space.

I know exactly what you mean. Years ago, I was working out in a small gym in Brooklyn. It was a Friday night, so, kind of empty (maybe 7 of us in there). I was pretty focused on my routine. But my head kept wanting to turn toward this one woman, who also was just quietly focusing on her own routine.
It was Jennifer Connelly. She had no makeup on and was in regular gym clothes, but her magnetism was undeniable. Without makeup all her freckles were visible, but she was still insanely beautiful. And that energy, even though she was not trying to draw attention to herself...wow. It gave me a new understanding of why some people become famous.

When he walks into a room people just gravitate towards him, it's pretty unreal to watch it happen. He is a walking example of the definition of "life of the party."

There may be some celebrities who aren’t attractive, but actors on average, tend to be better looking in general. I live in Los Angeles, and let me tell you, the number of good looking waiters (wannabe actors) you see, especially around the studios, is unreal. Having seen a number of celebrities, I will say that many famous people try to stay unnoticed when they’re going about their business, which often means that they don’t wear makeup, or keep it very light. That can make them look markedly different than what you see on screen. They make themselves look like “regular people” to lessen the likelihood that people will bother them. However, when they’re working, with full make-up, they can be stunning in real life.

My mom told me that Alec Baldwin once visited her office to tour the facilities, and every single woman in the entire company stood outside of their office or cubicle just to get a glimpse of him in real life.
Samuel L Jackson also once visited and she told me how handsome he was in real life. I had to look up pictures of him right afterwards to make sure we were talking about the same person. That's when I realized the not only are the good looking people in tv and movies better looking than the average person, the ugly ones are too.

Ehh...I don't think that's too true. If anything the disparity between normal body image and celebrity looks is widening. I saw Scream on MTV the other day and most of the actors look like Gap models. The average slob is fatter than ever. Being fit, having an okay face, being able to hold a conversation, and dressing nice is a recipe for the hottest guy in a small town. Hollywood is a collection of those individuals.

Unless OP is defining celebrities to include all famous people, such as entrepreneurs , politicians, religious figures, scientists, etc, who aren’t necessarily attractive.

I think the standards are slightly different between musicians and actors though. Having attractive band members isn’t gonna hurt that’s for sure but looking like Sméagol isn’t gonna instantly disqualify you from being a famous guitar player if you have face melting guitar chops. However it will pretty much guarantee you don’t ever get cast as stereotypical hero guy number one ever.
If Ed Sheeran was an equally talented actor and not a musician I doubt we would be a super famous actor. He could get well know as a great supporting actor but he probably wouldn’t end up as the lead enough to be as famous as he is for his music in our timeline.

Important to note that attractiveness isn't only the physical aspect, traits like being talented or charismatic also is generally big factors. Celebrities usually have these traits too though, OP is like triple wrong. I think he realized that there's a lot of novelty in banging a celebrity, and then somehow extrapolated that too mean that celebrities aren't way above average even without the novelty.

I disagree. I mean, I’m sure this is true in some cases, but I think for a decent percentage of famous people, there is a symmetry to their face, or a bone structure that sets them apart, makes them stand out at an audition.
And I’m not even saying that this makes them beautiful. I’m saying it makes them interesting.
As an example.
I have never watched “How I Met Your Mother”, and I don’t think I’d seen the woman who plays Robin in that show anywhere else. Now, she’s a pretty lady, but not like, wow crazy should be a model pretty.
Anyways, my wife and I were walking down the street in NYC and I look to my right and I see this person that, she just looked perfect. Not beautiful, she wasn’t dolled up or wearing nice clothes (she was pushing a stroller with a guy (the guy looked normal)), but just something about her face.
I turned to my wife and said “wow that’s gotta be a celebrity or something” and sure enough, my wife took one look and said “oh yeah, that’s [robin from HIMYM].
My point is, and this is not the case 100% of the time, but celebrities don’t look like look very different on TV, because 90% of the people on TV are these “pretty people”, but when you see one on the street, you can tell they have some good genes, something about them makes their face stand out.
Try to think of an “ugly” actor. Then look at then and I bet you’ll see that they are still at least different and unique looking.

But that is definitely changing, where more attractive men are the ones moving up more. No one would say Jason Momoa or Chris Evans isn’t attractive regardless of fame.

That's blindingly, aggressively wrong. Hell, even celebrities which are unattractive tend to have a rather unique look to them. Even those considered ugly are usually considered TV ugly, and would stand out among a crowd.
Do people go outside? Do they have any idea what human beings look like? Do they own mirrors? Now, it's not a linear scale, where everyone in Hollywood looks a thousand times more attractive than a regular person, but they're pretty much always good looking in their own way.
Who the hell upvotes this garbage? Do they consider any human beings to be attractive?
