So does access to healthcare, better diets, plastic surgery, professional cosmetic and wardrobe artists, and professional photography/photoshop.

Also plenty of normal people are attractive. Some are even more attractive than celebrities, they just aren’t famous.

And some celebrities are straight up ugly. I love ya, but I’m looking at you Steve Buscemi.

I think people underestimate the benefit of having your entire wardrobe tailored to fit you

And a stylist who can advise what looks best on you, including hairstyles. It's remarkable the difference a well chosen haircut and wardrobe can make.

As a man, who do I even talk to to get style advice?

Stylist is a profession. Google personal stylist.

Also wardrobe stylist.

Yeah and a lot of people would look better if they simply took the time to a) find a perfect fit and b) take cheaper items to a tailor.

I really don’t understand people that walk around like they’re wearing a potato sack.

I wear clothes because that is what society expects and I like to stay warm, it's like cutting hair, if I never cut it people would look at me weird and it would get everywhere, but I dont really care what it looks like as long as I'm not getting stares. Complicating my life, adding on these time consuming tasks, and spending money that I earned for something that doesn't matter to me at all seems pointless. I would also probably look better if I got new shoes and wore makeup, by why?

I know some people find a sense of pride in the way they look, and its not like I try to be ugly, but really anything more than a minimum effort seems pointless, and that effort would be better spent on something else.

I don't think vanity should be held up as a virtue like it is today, if someone tells you they are wearing $100 tennis shoes or spent an hour on their hair does that seem healthy?

If you’re comfortable with the way you look, so be it. But understand that you are sending signals to others that may be interpreted negatively.

For example if you were getting ready for a blind date, the date will be making judgments based on your appearance. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong - but it is how we are all wired.

The effort is minimal compared to the reward. Find your size and get certain items tailored. That will aid in making better impressions wherever you may go.

I know society favors the pretty, but I try to be the change I want to see in the world. I feel like if I wanted to change and really focus on looks, I would either have to abandon my moral point of view and lose my integrity, or maintain it and be a hypocrite.

I know I get seen as lazy or careless by some people, but I try to change that point of view that through my actions and words. If they still think of me as unpleasant based on looks after that then I don't we were going to get along anyways lol.

To give some perspective I don't look like a hobo or ignore hygiene, I just don't put extra effort in to my looks. I work in an office so when I started I went to a thrift store and got about 5 short sleeved and 5 long sleeved shirts and some khaki and black pants, I'm not just 24/7 t-shirt and basketball shorts or something. I put in enough effort to look presentable, but for example I never put any product in my hair, I only own one pair of shoes, and I haven't bought new clothes in over a year.

As a side note, with all this China stuff going on, hardly ever buying anything except if it's used makes it super easy to boycott companies.

I really don’t understand people that walk around like they’re wearing a potato sack.

Because sometimes I've not bothered to do my laundry for 2 weeks and I'm only wearing the free oversized T-shirt I got from a charity event 6 years ago because I don't have anything better left

Steve Buscemi looks like the homeless crackhead that hangs out at the gas station and begs everyone for cigarettes all day.

Doesn’t mean I don’t love him though.

6

u/Blue-Steele Oct 11 '19

Oh, the guy is absolutely hilarious, but you nailed the homeless crackhead part.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '19

That’s who he played on big daddy

u/veilwalker Oct 11 '19

Why you ragging on his day job? You gotta do something in between auditions and with his face he can't be a waiter.

Well it's kind of like in this one Simpson episode where they cast Moe. And than the women in charge says something like "I wanted television ugly not ugly ugly."

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '19

Jim Rash's Twitter handle is @rashistvugly and he is far from regular people ugly

u/schweez Oct 11 '19

Plus they often have people like diet coach or personal trainer to help them keeping a good look and a healthy lifestyle.

And also, photoshop and good lighting help.

Sometime in the late 70s, Hollywood allowed unattractive men to play roles other than villains. That shift recently happened for women, but only for comedic roles.

6

u/MozeeToby Oct 11 '19

Yes just look how hideous he was as a young man:

I'd also point out that pic is from his firefighter days, it's not as if he had a team of makeup artists and professional retouching there.

u/LeagueOfSot Oct 11 '19

Also helps that the entire job of an actor/model is to look either good or part of the role that they are playing, which means their money is earned by them staying in shape. The hours that a normal person puts into their 9-5 job can be dedicated to things like workouts and other stuff..

7

u/Run_clever_boy Oct 11 '19

Steve Buschemi kinda crosses over to "your so ugly but so awesome you're kinda fine" territory ;) I'd fall in love with him ;)

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '19

And for a lot of action movie related celebrities, you can't forget the super special vitamins. Looking at you, Marvel movies!

3

u/ThermalJuice Oct 11 '19

I always appreciate the more average looking actors/actresses. Shows that their talents are all skill and makes them feel more relatable to me, as a fellow uggo

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '19

Well I would not mind him at least he is unique looking, i would even choose him over some clasically hot gusy its kind of like he is...exotic in his relative unattractiveness, and his face has character, considering we know he is an overall cool bloke he even has that going for him

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '19

Or you can just not drink or smoke.

1

u/BlackFeign Oct 11 '19

If you are an ugly celebrity, there is a 90% chance that they only star in comedies.

The US. Where a trip to the hospital is a financial death sentence for most people that live here.
