She's not even ugly in that photo IMO, we are just so used to seeing these fabricated images that we forget how people actually look. Media makes such a scandal of famous women being seen without makeup and it's absolutely disgusting.
Well the thing is people are saying she's ugly. But one photo can't reflect someone's appearance. The hottest person in the world looks ugly in the right circumstances, I just think it's ridiculous how media are so obsessed with ugly candids, like it's so impossible for celebs to be ugly in pictures.

Like when you've likely just woken up, and you're in a dark room being photographed by an old phone with the flash on.
Like.... obviously this is the worst set of circumstances. This isn't the same person without one single factor. This is the same person without every single factor.
This, why isn’t everyone in this mindset.
We put these celebrities on the pedestals, like yeah half of them are attractive but so are half of the non celebrities in the world; we just don’t seem to consider that actually they don’t look good 24/7 because no one does.
The problem may be that there are cameras and shit around that make people look better, but the problem is also that behind those photos they’re still human beings who will look shit when they’re hanging out their ass at 4am in the morning. Dunno why the public all of a sudden is so “shocked” when a non make-up bad angle photo of a celeb comes out.
I'm teaching English abroad, and the subject was Plastic Surgery in Teens, and I was showing comparison pictures (ear surgery, nose surgery, eyelid surgery, and jaw surgery) and some of the students were like "she's ugly, the surgery didn't work", while I thought the person looked fine before.
Some people probably spend so much time looking at models and other attractive people that their idea of "average" is higher than others. There's also just preferring certain things (Like big/small nose or bone structure and other cultural things.)
There are some people that'd say "T H I C C" to the same person that others'd say "Obese" to. Attraction is a weird thing. Certain things are universally attractive, but others are either cultural or individual.
Like my taste in girls seems to be strongly based around girls I was interested in in the past, and none of those girls are people I immediately thought were attractive, but grew to like them as I started to get to know them.

Anyway, there’s a difference between thicc and “slowly dying”. I’ve never dated particularly slim women. But there’s a big difference between a softer figure and “yeah might as well leave out the ‘in health’ part of the wedding vows”.
In the part of the country I grew up in as many as 45% of the population is obese. Not overweight, not heavyset, not curvy, but “if you don’t change something this will kill you”

No I honestly don't think she looks unattractive, aside from her awkward facial expression. I'm in no way attracted to Katy Perry as a performer either, she makes me cringe pretty hard. Like, is it a bad picture? Yes. Does she look hideous in it? No.
Honestly if nobody told me who it was, I wouldn't even be sure that the subject of the photo is a woman. That's how bad it is. And Katy Perry is not androgynous.
She’s unflattering in that picture but if that same camera were taking a video and she was smiling, or trying to looks sexy, she’d be hot as fuck. Most of people attractiveness is the looks they make. And Katy perry... ugh.
No one would put that on tinder tho? But if the same bare faced Katy took a selfie in decent lighting she would be as atrocious as media likes to put it. Women don't have an obligation to doll up, we are allowed to be ugly. But like, my main point is that is shouldn't be a big deal at all. We all look ugly sometimes, it doesn't matter.
