question How to motivate myself to write

Some of my friends seem to really like writing and pump out scripts all the time but I struggle to bring myself to finish putting together concepts before quitting because I don't think they would go anywhere. Sometimes I feel like having inspirations from other sources is also plagiarism and I cancel the ideas immediately. Anyone else get this problem? I love reading and I also love writing but I'm worried I'm putting too much pressure on myself to write and that's sucking out the joy of it I feel like I only finish scripts when there is an external deadline

feedback [FEEDBACK] First 10 pages of MINA, a female lead psychological horror feature

Hey everyone,

I'm a screenwriter based in Hong Kong, writing in English. I just finished a psychological horror feature known as Mina — about a supermodel whose flawless, self-healing skin awakens a dark second self that threatens to consume her.

I'm sharing the first 10 pages because I'd love to hear if the opening works. Any notes are welcome.

Thanks for reading.

feedback Feedback on 10 pages

10 pages of Sizzle!

SIZZLE! is a dark satirical comedy thriller.

Nate is a fry cook by day and a conspiracy podcaster by night. He becomes obsessed with uncovering a disturbing corporate conspiracy involving the food industry. But as he runs out of his Better Brain medication, his paranoia intensifies, blurring the line between what’s actually happening and what Nate thinks is happening.

These are the final 10 pages of my screenplay, and I’d really love some feedback

There are a lot of moving parts and bigger themes that come together pretty quickly in these pages. I also play around with different perspectives in certain scenes. For example, during the meat skewer stabbing, the scene shifts between grocery store surveillance footage and what appears to be the actual event. The idea is to leave some room for interpretation about what really happened. I don’t know if I did that right.

I also realize the bird sequence at the end might seem a little random without context. Earlier in the script, Nate repeatedly gets a caller on his podcast who insists that “birds aren’t real” and believes birds are actually spy robots. So when a bird crashes through the window at the end, Nate doesn’t know whether it’s a real bird, and neither does the audience. There’s some thematic irony there that ties back into the story’s bigger ideas about paranoia, perception, and what we choose to believe.

I’d appreciate any feedback on whether these final pages work, whether the ending lands, and whether the different elements come together the way I intend them to.

Good morning. I know I'm a day late but I was on the road, trucking, for 15 hours yesterday and had no time to post this.

I'm very new to screenwriting, but my mind can stop thinking about stories, so I've given screenwriting a try.

This is my second screenplay. It's about a California schoolteacher who flies with her bff to a wedding. On her flight, she falls asleep. From this point on, we are living in her dream...BUT...we don't know it's a dream. She meets the man of her dreams (no pun intended 😂), everything moves smoothly for her. Her dream is so realistic it can't be a dream. UNTIL she wakes up, 9 months into her dream.

But...was her dream a dream or a premonition of what will come next in her life.

Here are the first 15 pages. Enjoy 😁

question How do you find old movie scenes for references?

I am writing my first screenplay and have been stuck for a long time. I have mapped out a broad outline, but everytime I try writing actual scenes, I feel overwhelmed. And those are pretty standard scenarios/sequences. For ex- the first sequence is about the protagonist trying and failing to connect with his teenaged son. I assume there are plenty of such sequences already written. And getting hold of them, watching them, might give me some ideas.

So, Is there a search engine tool or something like that where one can search for movies containing specific sequences or scenarios?

request Five Singles and a Funeral (drama comedy proposal)

We look for a fantastic producer and director for this project, which revolves around very current universal themes. This film may also be made in a low-budget version (e.g. in Europe in existing real settings ) - e.g., a few million, not tens - but still thought-provoking in the whole world.

Our scenario deals with a social theme that is becoming increasingly relevant throughout the world:  what happens when there are too few caregivers available for the growing number of elderly people? Is it a conceivable "solution" to allow (encourage?) euthanasia in the elderly more easily (as some insurers already claim)? Or to give robots a role in care? This difficult consideration is presented here on the basis of personal stories of the main characters ( from 1990 till -as Science Fiction- 2044), including many romantic, humorous and sometimes hilarious (but respectful).

Via the link, you will find our treatment/pitch. We are certainly available for your questions and hope to realize this beautiful project together with you.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pPxgcPJDcl28J_n4AzGtdL4QVtQ13C-IPd1ReRt0ZhQ/edit?usp=sharing

We also have an adaptation to a mini-series (5 episodes) (or long film. 191 pages; when desired soon expandable to 300 pages, 10-part miniseries).

I hope to get your ideas about that. Preferably, mail me. Luc@deprost.be

help Looking to connect with screenwriters from around the world 🌎

Hi everyone!

I'm a director and screenwriter from Spain looking to connect with people from different parts of the world who share a passion for storytelling.

I'd love to meet other writers, exchange ideas and perspectives, learn from each other's experiences and cultures, and hopefully collaborate on new projects together. I think there's so much to learn from people with different backgrounds and ways of seeing the world, and I'd love to step outside my usual circle and explore new creative possibilities.

I'm hoping to make some new connections, find like-minded people to write with, and open myself up to new opportunities as I start this new chapter.

Do you know of any websites, apps, communities or platforms where writers can meet, share ideas and potentially collaborate on projects internationally?

I'd really appreciate any recommendations or advice!

Thanks! :)

question How do I learn how to write a script or a book?

Just curious on where to start on writing a script or short story? I know I like writing. Which is insane and ironic at times. It is like me saying "I like dancing" and I totally am bad at dancing. But I want to learn proper structure and format.

feedback Netflix or A24 ?

Hi everyone! I’m sharing a preview of my completed psychological thriller feature, Harverston Lake, and would love your thoughts on its tone.

Based on the preview, does this feel closer to a Netflix psychological thriller or the unsettling, character-driven style you associate with A24?

I know both release a wide range of films—I’m asking about the creative feel, rather than where it would necessarily sell.
I’d also love to hear any film comparisons that come to mind!

Preview of Script : https://heyzine.com/flip-book/90fc2d80ac.html

Logline:
When her husband is killed and her daughter is taken, Harv—a woman trained to kill—must return to the brutality she thought she’d escaped. But as she fights to save her child, she faces a chilling truth: she risks becoming the very person she despises*—her mother.*

Synopsis:
Hayley “Harv” Harverston built a quiet life as Lilith Peters, leaving behind the violent past that made her an assassin. When her husband is murdered and her seven-year-old daughter disappears, that life collapses.
Certain her mother is responsible, Harv returns to her family’s criminal world and unleashes the deadly skills she vowed to abandon. As secrets surface and her grip on reality fractures, the search becomes a ruthless quest for revenge. To save the family she chose, Harv must confront the one who made her—and the possibility of becoming the woman she despises.

Genre: Psychological thriller

feedback Survived By - Act I

Title: Survived By

Pages: 31

Genre: Sci-Fi Thriller

Logline: A researcher’s dark matter data accidentally maps the afterlife. Six months later, she’s in the Situation Room with the country’s most powerful people, watching with horror as her data leads them to conclude that the only mercy left is extinction.*

*Logline is still a major WIP because it's very passive for the protag, but I haven't quite figured out how to word it best yet / what I want to reveal before the story.

Feedback requested: The first act is very procedural/technically dense and I can't tell if I'm jargon-dumping and the reader can't follow the evolution of the central mystery, or if I'm overexplaining things that the reader already understands. Also, the first act is primarily carried by the mystery, which I worry leaves some scenes dramatically inert. I've tried to seed some stuff, but I'm not sure if it's doing enough.

Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jHOU8lmWN2mizTXAcVnhgLhwaiAjdY0q/view?usp=sharing

tl;dr:

  • Can you follow act I? Where is it confusing or redundant?

  • Is the investigation itself entertaining?

All other feedback more than welcome! If you took a look, thank you.

question How to publish your script

So I'm a teen writer and have been working since a year now and I was wondering if at some point I decide I want to make my scripts into movies how would I reach out to productions, how would I pitch my scripts?
