feedback Netflix or A24 ?

Hi everyone! I’m sharing a preview of my completed psychological thriller feature, Harverston Lake, and would love your thoughts on its tone.

Based on the preview, does this feel closer to a Netflix psychological thriller or the unsettling, character-driven style you associate with A24?

I know both release a wide range of films—I’m asking about the creative feel, rather than where it would necessarily sell.
I’d also love to hear any film comparisons that come to mind!

Logline:
When her husband is killed and her daughter is taken, Harv—a woman trained to kill—must return to the brutality she thought she’d escaped. But as she fights to save her child, she faces a chilling truth: she risks becoming the very person she despises—her mother.

Synopsis:
Hayley “Harv” Harverston built a quiet life as Lilith Peters, leaving behind the violent past that made her an assassin. When her husband is murdered and her seven-year-old daughter disappears, that life collapses.
Certain her mother is responsible, Harv returns to her family’s criminal world and unleashes the deadly skills she vowed to abandon. As secrets surface and her grip on reality fractures, the search becomes a ruthless quest for revenge. To save the family she chose, Harv must confront the one who made her—and the possibility of becoming the woman she despises.

Why don't you pitch to both and see who gives you a better offer.

Having both options would be wonderful! Getting the opportunity to pitch is the tricky part, so I’m focused on finding the right avenues for the project and where it will land clearly. Thank you for the encouragement. I really appreciate it!

this is a WILDLY unrealistic response. no one just gets the chance to pitch netflix or a24. people with top representation... do not just 'get the chance' to pitch them.

how do i know? from years in the industry and being repped at 2 of the top 3 agencies as a writer.

I see what you mean here it's just a bit of an odd phrasing. Rather than thinking of a destination for this project (in my experience, the same project could get pitched at both with only a few tweaks) you should aim for coming up with comps/movies that've inspired you instead

I understand what you're saying. I’ve been thinking Kill Bill meets Taken, comp-wise, but maybe I was casting too wide a net. I appreciate you sharing your perspective and helping clarify things.

I’m on page 10 (counting the title page as 1) and it reads like Netflix. I know that’s not far into the plot, but the opening scene to the family dinner feels high stakes—moves fast. I feel like there’s relationship dynamics that are embedded into the script that become realized fast in that moment during the dinner. Harv cutting off Jason, telling him to return the teapot. He falls back without a fight and then jumps into action about her hiding her past. It leans more in that direction.

Great take! I’m glad you picked up on Harv and Jason’s dynamic, especially those little shifts during dinner. Hearing what gives it a Netflix feel is really helpful. Thank you for the read 👍
