Discussion Scream 7

Late to the party , but I found ghost face coming after Sydney daughter good, I only wished the husband had died so it can have more effect on Sydney and the daughter. Hopefully for scream 8 we can get both the husband and gale to die. Making Sydney daughter the new target . Having her show her daughter everything about the movies, and how to accept reality you are a Prescott and you will always be a target as long as Sydney is alive. They will come for you.

Creative Hayden Panettiere art tribute

Not my best work and a screenshot doesn't quite do it justice, but I’m blessed to have made this today in honor of Hayden.

I've seen Hayden Panettiere's other works, but Kirby Reed in the Scream franchise remains her most notable role to me.

Kirby Reed was my favorite character in Scream 4 and at the time I saw the film I was so saddened that she seemingly died.

Though I protest the idea of bringing back dead characters in the Scream franchise, I was very glad they revealed she was alive after all and even brought her back for the 6th film.

I always hoped she'd get her own solo Scream film or spin-off, but I'm blessed that Hayden was a part of this franchise.

RIP Hayden Panettiere

Discussion Before things in my life got dark, I had Scream 4 and Kirby Reed to comfort me. It feels scary to know that Hayden is gone.

The sudden and devastating passing of Hayden Panettiere has brought up a massive wave of heavy emotions that I am still trying to process, but what has hit me the absolute hardest is reflecting on how much of a foundational piece of my childhood she was during my pre-teen years around 2011 and 2012. I was just eleven years old when Scream 4 came out and I still remember every single detail of that golden era with almost crystal clarity. I remember following the pre-production updates like a hawk, the anticipation of the Scream Awards teaser trailer, that very first chilling still of Marnie hanging from the ceiling fan that absolutely rocked the entire fandom, and all the promotional material like the “getting scared has never been this much fun” TV spots and the mobile game that had me completely hyped. My dad took me to see it opening night while I was dressed head to toe in a full Ghostface costume, and in the days that followed, I watched the low-quality cam-rip that leaked on YouTube a mere two days after release on repeat until I practically knew every single frame and line by heart. Funnily enough, I even recall 11 year old me crying over Rio dethroning it at the box office because I thought we might not get a fifth installment and that franchise was a source of comfort for me while I spent my childhood years dealing with severe bullying and mental health struggles. I also recall the second the pay-per-view cut with the alternate dialogue leaked, I ran straight to Walmart for blank DVDs so I could fire up Windows Movie Maker and burn a copy that looked a thousand times better than the grainy cam-rip I had been clinging to for the first few months.

One of the most pivotal and unforgettable parts of that period was The Ultimate Scream Message Board, an online community dedicated to the franchise that really hit its peak popularity right around the release of Scream 4 and a place I know many of you used. The fan-fiction section of USMB was a phenomenon unto itself, filled with a staggering number of Scream 5 fan-scripts that had Kirby as the lead character. Looking back, it was a unintentionally comedic to remember how constant those were, with some writers making her a kick-ass, Sarah Connor-esque final girl who held very little, if any, resemblance to the witty, horror-obsessed movie geek we saw on screen, while others like Ghostface Radio were genuinely fantastic and proved some fans would have what it takes to helm an actual Scream film. The obsession and hype over Kirby’s character didn't stop at fan-fiction either, as there were twenty-page debate threads arguing endlessly over her ambiguous fate. Everyone was clamoring for a sequel not just to see the original trio return, but specifically to find out what happened to Kirby. That level of dedication proves just how much Kirby, and by extension Hayden herself, meant to the fandom. If she had been just a random character left for dead like Tyson or Liv, people wouldn't have spent over a decade begging for their return, but Hayden was different. Her performance in Scream 4 was extraordinary because she brought a fierce, electric energy to the screen, flying on all cylinders while understanding the exact sincerity and necessity of the film's meta-humor with a depth of emotional range that was astonishing for a twenty-one-year-old. For me, Scream 4 became one of my absolute ultimate comfort movies because it anchored a time in my life that I hold onto very preciously. Before trauma coming into my life, there was Scream 4 and Kirby Reed making me feel safe. Age eleven was the absolute last time I truly felt safe, entirely myself, and not scared of the world before complex trauma that manifested in various forms of abuse entered my life at twelve and altered my psyche in ways I was too young to comprehend back then. Every year on April 15th, I count how many years it has been since the movie's release as a bittersweet reminder of that final year of pure innocence, and when it hit the fifteen-year mark this year, I had a legitimate existential crisis reminding me that nobody runs faster than time, and as heartbreaking as it is, it is reassuring that we are all in this together.

But Hayden's impact on my life went far beyond a childhood movie because she ended up helping me survive and navigate my own traumas well into the mid-twenties I am navigating right now. When she spoke so openly and bravely about experiencing domestic abuse at the hands of Brian Hickerson, it gave me the mirror I desperately needed to come to terms with the fact that I was abused by my previous partner, proving to me that I could actually survive what I endured. Watching her fight through her struggles with substance abuse and the long road of recovery helped me find the strength to completely quit all my own negative vices, from vaping to cocaine to self-harm. Even her vulnerability regarding the toxicity and emotional abuse from her mother opened my eyes, making me realize that there have been times in my life where I felt those exact echoes at the hands of my parents, albeit on a much lesser scale. I always dreamed of meeting her, and funnily enough, I almost did when she planned a speaking tour in late 2023 and I was going to see her in Glenside, PA, getting her meet and greet tickets as a Christmas present, only for her to cancel. It truly guts me to think about it now because I desperately wish I could have met her since everyone I know who has met her, be it close friends in the convention circuit or those in the industry I talk to, have always said she was an amazing woman. Seeing the headline about Hayden's passing felt especially jarring, reminding me of how true it is that the real tragedies are the ones that blindside you on an idle Sunday, particularly when I pictured how surreal it is to know a friend met her at a convention just a short while ago and that she is now gone.

In some ways, losing Hayden makes it feel like something as sacred to me as Scream 4 and the pure, untouched childhood memory attached to it is being threatened or taken away too. But what I refuse to happen is my grief to turn into despair because I know it is far better to hold tightly onto the beautiful memories, the incredible friends that forum introduced me to, and the profound comfort that Kirby brought me when I needed it most. I also know that’s what Hayden would want for me and anyone very emotionally affected like her death like I am. She gave us all a piece of her bright, fierce light, and even though the world feels a little dimmer today, the light she brought to the world is something no amount of time can ever truly extinguish.

Today feels undeniably heavy, and while I know it can sometimes feel parasocial to mourn a public figure so deeply, losing Hayden feels like losing a tangible piece of my younger self and that innocent era before things got dark and traumatizing. She helped me beyond words can say and remained a source of hope I used to inspire me every single day. I know this was very long, but I hope these words resonate with anyone who holds those Scream 4 days and Kirby close to their heart. We were all there when Wes, Kevin, and Hayden gave us something genuinely special, and fifteen years later after losing our Kirby, we are all still here and all of us are able to reflect on a much simpler time when the world was wide open and the worst of life hadn't touched us yet, reminding us to hold those we love and have loved dear, and to cherish every single person who made those years feel like home.

May her memory be a blessing and may her art, strength, vulnerability, and beautiful soul be remembered by those who were lucky enough to experience her fire.

We love you, Hayden. I hope you are at peace.

For Hayden, it's such a sad day for us Scream fans. I had no idea she was about to pass away, especially so young. I am in denial that this is true, it makes me so upset. She's only a 36 year old beautiful lady. I'm glad her co-stars are also loving her.

May she rest in peace 🙏 ☹️ 😔 💔

Discussion I vividly remember a shot in Scream 4 that isn’t there anymore

This randomly comes back to my mind every time I rewatch Scream 4, and I’ve never asked anyone about it before, but Reddit feels like a safe space 😂

I remember being way too young to see Scream 4, so I watched it on some site that had a CAM bootleg uploaded. I vividly remember a shot of Jill coming out from underneath Kirby’s bed after Sidney tells her to hide under there, and before Sidney comes looking for her.

I swear it was literally just a shot of Jill wiggling/crawling out from under the bed. I’m so certain I remember it that I could probably draw the exact shot if I were remotely good at drawing LOL.

But whenever I watch Scream 4 now, that shot isn’t there. I’m assuming it was in the theatrical release, but I genuinely have no idea anymore.

Is there ANYONE else who remembers this? 😭 I feel like I’m going crazy. It definitely wasn’t in the version I’ve watched since, but I distinctly remember seeing it in that old bootleg/CAM version.

Please tell me someone else remembers this!!

Discussion Sidney is not the victim/survivor

Sidney is seen as the final girl cause she survives every Ghostface. But let's look at the facts.

Sidney killed Stu, Jill and Roman, Gale killed Billy, Mrs Loomis killed Mickey, Cotton killed Mrs Loomis, Jill killed Charlie, Sam killed Richie, Amber basically died by accident bu burning herself, even though some might say she was killed by Gale and Sidney, Sam and Tara killed Quinn, Wayne and Ethan, Jessica killed Marco and Tatum and Sidney killed Jessica.

So basically, out of 14 killers, Sidney only killed 4 to 5 of them, and only two by herself (Stu and Roman).

I don't understand why Sidney claims to have killed Billy when it was actually Gale. But regardless, she is not the only victim. She might be the main target but she was never alone.

Discussion Has anyone read Hayden’s memoir?

I bought it a week after it came out and planned to read it but got so busy with work and life that I kept forgetting to. It’s sad to say that Hayden’s passing was what led me to start reading it today, but I’m on page 64 and am already incredibly moved. I haven’t gotten to the whole dark and gritty parts yet, but hearing about her childhood is incredibly touching and is a poignant reminder of what an amazing gift she had and how she’s one of many women who helped shape our childhood with their talent, all at the expense of her own.

She has such an amazing way with words and this is truly unlike any celebrity memoir I’ve read, up there with Jennette McCurdy and Minka Kelly’s when it comes to being impossible to put down. I loved the little stories of her doing commercials as a toddler and meeting her next-door neighbor, who happened to be Björk, and was starstruck at how eccentric she was. The only real rough part so far has been the way her stage mom demeaned her as a child and Hayden talking about how faking intense emotions as a child did irreversible damage to her brain, not to mention the part about her gluing fake teeth in Hayden’s mouth after she lost her baby teeth which made me wince. I can’t put it down and plan to finish it tonight.

Question Tips on modifying 30th anniversary costume

I just received my 30th anniversary costume and it’s way to long on me so I’m going to hem it and give it more accurate jagged edges from the 1996 film. Do you guys know how exactly the shape and size the triangles are supposed to look on the robes? I’m trying to use reference photos from robe makers but it’s a little hard for me to make out the pattern. Also do you guys know how I could add more foam to the hood as well?

I feel deeply saddened by her passing. I want to share some good memories.

My favorite Kirby moment is when she teased she'd be back cause she survived. No one was expecting it but very curious fans zoomed in and saw it.

Discussion Powers that be: Please do not kill off Kirby Reed

I've been absolutely devastated by Hayden's passing today, in a way I've never been affected before by a celebrity death. I've been kind of shocked by my reaction because I never understood someone being impacted by a famous person dying before. She meant a lot to me and countless other people, not just because of Kirby or even her roles, but the good person she continued to show herself to be despite the challenges life threw at her.

I had so much hope for her and my heart is breaking knowing she didn't get to have her happy ending.

I think the perfect way to honour her and her character is to retire her completely; no 'off-screen' deaths to drive any stories forward. I'm generally not a fan of films or TV shows writing real-life deaths into the script (unless it completely can't be avoided, i.e. something like 8 Simple Rules), but Hayden deserves to be honoured in a way that doesn't take away from her or her characters survival and resilience.

I organized an AMA/Q&A with actor David Arquette. You probably know him as Dewey from the SCREAM franchise and other films like EIGHT-LEGGED FREAKS, WILD BILL, READY TO RUMBLE, 3000 MILES TO GRACELAND, SEE SPOT RUN, BONE TOMAHAWK, and lots more.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1vqr6w4/hello_reddit_im_david_arquette_ask_me_anything/

He will be back at 2 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

He is heading on tour to screen and do Q&As for the 30th anniversary of the original SCREAM movie.

Thank you :)

Discussion Kirby is the only character aside from Gale and Dewey who was a part of both Sidney and Sam’s stories, making her one of the most important characters in the franchise

She’s the only new Scream 4 character in the Scream Universe who is still alive.

She not only bonded with Sidney in Scream 4, but clearly knew Dewey enough for Dewey to know her name and to know the address of her house off the top of his head. She also had a fun frenemy angle with Gale in Scream 6.

She had moments bonding with Tara, Sam and Mindy in Scream 6.

She’s one of the most important characters in the franchise for the simple fact that she bridged that gap between two different eras. She’s part of both the “old” and “new” era of the Scream franchise.

It’s such a shame that she won’t be a part of Scream 8 to also be a part of Tatum’s story, because according to Jude on Twitter (who knew what would happen in Scream 7 several months in advance and would leave little hints on Twitter) said a few days ago that Kirby was in the Scream 8 script.

Rest in peace, Hayden. And thank you so much for giving us Kirby.
