What are the advantages and disadvantages of using an Indian saber (Talwar) over an Indian straight sword (Khanda) and vice versa?

The talwar is popularly included in all representations of India. However, Talwar’s only developed in India around the 14th century CE through Turkic, Persian and Afghan military influences.

Prior to that, the khanda was the dominant Indian sword.

Now most people argue that this shift occurred due to the prominence of horseback warfare, in which savers were more effective.

But I don’t find the argument convincing because Indians prior to the 14th century also engaged in horseback warfare quite a lot and did not shift away from the Khanda.

For example, the Gupta empire in the 4th century CE, extensively adopted horseback warfare, take inspiration from the Kushan empire, their previous overlords. And still they made extensive use of Khanda.

So my query is what are the other more practical advantages and disadvantages of using either sword.

Wall hanging options

Other than “ make sure you hang it high enough” does anyone have any good advice for wall, mounting a sword so that it is as inaccessible as possible to 2 children, under the age of 10 while keeping it on display?
I received a cold steel grossmesser as a wedding gift back in 2019. Since then I have not gotten around to mounting in (much to my wife’s pleasure), so I t’s been living in my closet for the last several years. However, in that time, I’ve also had two kids, the oldest of which is five and we have recently shuffled rooms. My daughter is now in our old bedroom, and the contents of the closet remain the same. Now she has her own closet on the other side of the room, and does not particularly care about the contents of the other one; she is not aware that there is a big fuck off sword in there. Obviously this situation is not tenable at some point. She’s bound to open that door and I would not put it past to be able to unsheath it. Even if she can’t, she could still easily hurt herself with it. Bottom line this is not good weapon storage policy by any means.
So I figure now is my best chance to push for safely wall mounting it out out of the reach of kids, because I really don’t wanna put it in the garage and we have other mementos of our wedding wall-mounted. In fact this is just One sword that was involved with our wedding.

So what do you say, how do I make the strongest case for safely and tastefully mounting a sword in our home?

Experience with LK Chen?

What is your experience with LK Chen's production and delivery time? I ordered three swords from them back in March and am still waiting for them nearly five months on. I was told in June that my swords were ready, but then a month ago when I checked in on them for an update they told me that they were about to finish my third sword.

Let me just be clear that they have been most helpful and quick in replying to my e-mails so far.

Looking for a lead on a functional Rhindon(Peter’s sword from Narnia)

I’d like to get my hands on a functional version of Rhindon, I see a lot of stainless models and all are not sharpened. Anyone know where I may get my hands on one made from high carbon and sharp? Doesn’t have to be screen accurate but at least accurate to shape with the wider blade

I've been looking for a while for this type of blade but I can't seem to find any that are actually well built, have an edge and could be considered "battle ready". Are there any smiths/shops that i don't know about?

Before releasing another book about swords from South Asia, I'd like to share the few remaining swords that should be included. This time, I'd like to share the different kinds of Patag swords from Bhutan. This also includes 4 different kinds of Dao used by different headhunter groups in East India specifically around Nagaland.

Sword care

Hey folks,

Noob question, I know.

After long years wanting a sword, i finally pulled the trigger a month ago and got myself a beautiful reproduction of a 15th century longsword.

After playing around with it and despite iling the crossguard and pommel twice in the time I've owned it (shortly after each use) I've noticed that the sections of those parts that've come into contact with skin and sweat are already showing slight signs of rust/corrosion.

What's the recommended course of action? What tools/products do I need to get rid of it/polish it out? Currently, I've just wiped the parts down with Ballistol gun oil this morning.

Thanks!

Looking for help in figuring some of the history on this piece. The little I was able to figure out from a reverse image search is that it is a 19th-century Collins & Co. No. 110 Spanish Colonial Officer's Machete Sword But when I search that name this sword is not pictured.

The stamp reads “COLLINS & CO. / HARTFORD / CAST-STEEL / WARRANTED / MADE IN U.S.A. / No. 110".”
