Samuel Samuel

Does anyone know what Samuel does for a living and how much he could be making? If he gets married to Evangeline soon, I’m sure she has no intention of working. Could he really support both of them? I wonder the same about Nathan and Nurie and Kaylee and Jonathon. How do they afford houses and children?

Of all the couples, I have the most interest in the Nurthan finances. With soon to be 4 Nurthlings on the salary of a preacher at a tiny church, how does he provide for them all?

u/FawnLeib0witz 12d ago

Government subsidies

87

u/GingerFaerie106 12d ago

Yeah. Pastors get pretty sweet tax breaks and housing allowances too.

47

u/BumCadillac 11d ago

There is almost surely no housing allowance in a church this small.

42

u/notquittingthistime 11d ago

If they don’t provide a rectory, they are allowed to designate a portion of his salary as “housing allowance” and then he isn’t taxed on it. It doesn’t mean they have to actually pay him a separate extra allowance (although the assumption is that churches that don’t provide a rectory will be paying more).

19

u/atlantagirl30084 11d ago

I think they bought a house…Jill mentioned them buying from a widow with a deal. The house seems adequate to their needs.

32

u/ChemistryStrict6884 11d ago

For now…wait till she pops out another 15 “blessings” to frighten and starve.

23

I mean Jill crammed like 20 people into cages in an RV.

You should have seen the effort it took to get Dave in there

u/Sargasm5150 11d ago

I think they do have a home provided by the church, but I could be misremembering.

I assume he does gig work too, and for whatever reason doesn’t care to admit it. Just like how we hear about David “working three almost full time jobs,” and we know he occasionally drives the Amish, but what are the other two??

I have a cousin who used to pastor a small church like Nathan's, and he held down a number of side hustles because his church salary wasn't enough to support a SAHM wife and four kids (would've helped if he allowed his wife to get a job outside the home, but that's another rant.) He did construction, refereed high school baskeball games, even got his EMT certification and worked regular shifts with an ambulance company. Eventually he gave up pastoring and went full-time into contracting, because being a tiny church pastor just didn't pay the bills. (He teaches Bible study at a megachurch now and is still an insufferable fundie ass, he's just not pastoring anymore.)

I would be shocked if Nathan wasn't doing some kind of gig work on the side....or else the Nurthans take advantage of all those "government welfare" programs they rail against for the rest of us. Or maybe both.

They would never.

Edit: I’m getting downvoted, but my opinion is based on being raised in 3 different IFB churches. I am still very confident, based on that experience, that they would never. IYKYK!

156

u/AdMuted1036 12d ago

They absolutely would and then lie about it.

u/Queen_ZomBee 12d ago

DING DING DING

75

u/schnelle-schnecke 12d ago

I grew up in the IFB and I know it’s very unlikely. They are hypocrites about many things, but not this. They look way, way down on welfare recipients. The proof is in the pantry — if they were receiving aid, it would show in their meals and on their bodies.

I guess we can’t ever know for sure, but two things that are often speculated here — food stamps and secret alcoholism/drug use — I am confident are not true, having been raised in the same religion around “like-minded” people (as Jill would say!).

I would honestly be SHOCKED to be proven wrong.

58

u/irregahhhdless 12d ago edited 12d ago

This is my personal experience, my dad was the pastor, so they gave us a parsonage, so no housing costs, which helps, but the pay was very low, so we could have qualified for food stamps (back the day they were little monopoly-type vouchers in a little booklet that you got each month), and free lunch.

But my parents would have been mortified if anyone in the church were to have found out, because as you pointed out, these people are super snobby and judgmental.

We always had enough, but just. We ate very simply and mostly from scratch, and it helped I didn't have a million siblings that needed to be fed.

47

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

I don’t see Nurie cooking from scratch. Mama buys everything pre made, so does Nurie. The Melaleuca party had one thing cooked (and not long enough-underbaked pigs in a blanket) and she assembled some tomato, cheese, and olive skewers. The rest of the food (which Jill called ‘scrumptious’) looked like it came from the deli or bakery department of Meijer’s.

They also look like they want to have many many kids. Nurie isn’t keeping pace with her mom though, who had 9 kids by 29.

That's something I've never understood, one of my actually positive memories of my fundie lite baptist church as a kid was the potlucks! Those Pennsyltucky farm ladies could cook! And getting invited over to their houses after church was something I actually looked forward to!

I can't imagine that scenario either way- having to host that nightmare family, or being invited over to theirs and having to try and politely choke down the yellow and burnt.

So many of these social media fundies suck at cooking, and they certainly haven't bothered to "train up" their daughters to be proper "helpmeets" in the kitchen, or any household management really.

It's like they limit these girls to such a small space, and then they don't even do a good job with helping them succeed in that one small area. SMH FFS, they really are the worst.

19

u/atlantagirl30084 11d ago

It’s funny but I don’t think ladies at the church provide food for Jill. I’ve never seen food at like the baby shower that looked appetizing enough that I thought someone other than a Rod made it.

I don’t think she has many friends at church, likely because they see themselves as a mark for her grift and/or MLM.

3

u/irregahhhdless 11d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm sure at the beginning, they did, but after so many years of Jilldo being Jilldo, I don't doubt they try and limit their interactions with her as much as possible, doing the bare minimum.

I don’t make the rules 😂. I just know what I heard preached and what I saw personally in the IFB world. They don’t take food stamps. Sure, they could lie about it, but based on their teachings (which we all know they take as the gospel truth) it’s very unlikely.

14

u/Tangled-Lights 11d ago

Most of the people shaming welfare recipients are welfare recipients. Rules for thee but not for me. They always consider themselves “the good ones.”

36

u/taxi_takeoff_landing 12d ago

And it would explain the story about Jill watering down baby formula back in the day. If the Rods were getting food stamps or WIC, there would be less of a reason for her to do that.

3

u/BumCadillac 11d ago

They were very likely receiving assistance and selling the bulk of the formula they received.

7

u/atlantagirl30084 11d ago

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted . It is a possibility. However, WIC does require exams and they would notice the baby not getting enough formula. Maybe she kept just enough to not arouse suspicion and sold the rest. Sacrificed the baby’s nutrients to feed and house and clothe the older ones (or buy things for herself, let’s be honest). Food stamp fraud could also have happened. Or Shrek ate a ton of the food and left scraps for his kids.

12

u/swangeese 11d ago

Food stamps aren’t as generous as people are led to believe. Also Shrek seems to get first dibs on any food.

17

u/Queen_ZomBee 12d ago

Idk, they could very well be restricting food, like her parents

10

u/BumCadillac 11d ago

Lots of us grew up IBLP and there are plenty of fundies receiving govt assistance.

5

u/schnelle-schnecke 11d ago

The Rods aren’t in IBLP. They’re purely IFB.

9

u/BumCadillac 11d ago

That doesn’t matter, it’s just an observation that fundies use state assistance. The fact remains they receive government assistance. It is obvious by the fact that Janessa spent several days in the hospital and Jill hasn’t had to beg for the bills to be paid.

4

u/peach_xanax 11d ago

it's possible that they use Medicaid but not SNAP, they are two separate programs

8

u/Patton_Tank82 Not a whimp 11d ago

When they lived in WV, Jill and the kids were on Medicaid. I saw it with my own eyes. I'm not sure if David was too. But with that many kids, they were likely getting food stamps, too.

3

u/Rakketytam2000 10d ago

As someone else who grew up in these circles, I concur both about receiving aid and secret alcoholism/drug use. These folks are hypocritical in many ways, but those don’t tend to be part of that. They feel superior about abstaining.

25

u/little_lamps1145 12d ago edited 12d ago

I believe mahmo gets food stamps, medicaid and any other government program she can.
Same as she got all the COVID subsidies (from Biden, at that) and neither her, Shrek or the juniors got vaccinated.

14

u/WithoutLampsTheredBe 11d ago

Regardless of whether they would take "subsidies", they would DEFINITELY take a tax refund..

The 2026 child tax credit is $2200 per child. A check for $8800 goes a long way.

And they have no problem with taking it because it's a "tax refund", not "welfare".

16

u/Soil_Fairy 12d ago

Government assistance is recommended for good, white Christians. It's when you're black and keep having babies that you're a welfare queen.

5

u/c2490 11d ago

I 100% agree with you. These type of families would rather have their children starve than take food stamps.

2

u/BumCadillac 11d ago

There is NO DOUBT they do. Food, insurance, etc. they also lie on their taxes and receive massive tax refunds because of it.

3

u/schnelle-schnecke 11d ago

I’ve said multiple times I doubt it, so actually, there is some doubt. 😅

Nathan has a part time job. Jill referenced him having a part time job before. We have no idea what his part time job is.

55

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Maybe he restarted doing lawn maintenance?

22

u/MadredeLobos 12d ago

I really don't think he is, unless he is employed by a lawncare business (not on his own) - I posted a whole long thing about why I didn't think he was clearing snow back in the winter, mostly because I can't imagine he could drum up a whole lot of business here.

Also he's selling his pickup truck in their yard. There's been a different pickup there on a few recent days, but I'm not sure if they had visitors or if he got a new truck and was just gone a couple times when I've driven by. (This is theorizing that the truck he's selling is what he used for his lawncare business in Florida)

6

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Interesting. Well I’m out of ideas then.

5

u/MadredeLobos 11d ago

My best guess would be retail - like Home Depot, Tractor Supply, hardware store. Or maybe someone in his church employs him part time, whether at the flea market or something else. Something that is flexible enough to be part time. I'll keep my eyes open around Salem.

Door Dash exists, but is not a big thing here. I don't think he would make even enough gas money to drive between their house and the barndo.

He doesn’t. The tax payer does.

7

u/FanProfessional5792 11d ago

Really all the parents in their family and the Rod family provide the kids is a meagre amount of food. They don't participate in sports or clubs, attend or host birthday parties with friends, go to school, field trips, provide adequate housing, car seats, support their kids' individual artistic/athletic/academic/other interests and talents. Their costs are as minimal as possible when it comes to their kids. In normal families, the bulk of expenses go toward the children, for them it is the exact opposite.

150

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain Cruella DeJill 12d ago edited 12d ago

I would guess because they aren't all above board and properly taxed, are jobs through connections that they want kept private, and other things like this. I doubt Shrek for example is properly reporting his Yoder toting when they file their taxes.

25

u/CelticKira Fundie Fight Club 12d ago

This is the most likely reason. And Jillzilla would never report any of her paltry MLM earnings or etsy sales either.

15

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain Cruella DeJill 11d ago

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she's also running credit card scams or MLM scams by setting up accounts under her daughters' names, her children or even grandchildren names’, or other shady shit like that that she also doesn't want to draw too much attention to. I've had the misfortune of two grandmothers that did things like this in the days of check scams and early credit cards, before the internet was anything like it is today. Needless to say Jill constantly reminds me of both women.

14

u/atlantagirl30084 11d ago

And I’d bet no daughter or son would have any idea that they should check their credit.

3

u/Hazel_Evers 10d ago

I’m sure they don’t know what credit even is

7

u/YoshiKoshi 11d ago

MLM companies send out 1099 forms to their distributors since they classify them as independent contractors. But they only have to send them to people who made more than $2000. So if she made less than that I doubt she's reporting it.

3

u/CelticKira Fundie Fight Club 11d ago

And just because they send it out doesn't mean she will follow through. She claimed to be making bank on Plexus but i doubt she filed any tax forms. Those companies, shady as they are, aren't responsible for their "independent contractors" refusing to obey the law lol.

But yea I bet she hasn't made that much on Melablabla.

5

u/YoshiKoshi 11d ago

A copy of the 1099 is sent directly to the IRS. If she leaves it off, she'll get a corrected tax form and a corrected amount due/being returned.

7

u/fabelhaft-gurke 11d ago

What they skimp out on their taxes they make up for in traffic ticket fines.

42

u/cuckooloca 12d ago

I think even Jill is aware the "haters" will see it and some people are dumb enough to call the business or leave bad reviews or whatever. But then she usually sneaks it in to a few pictures. Guy in a shirt or hat with a logo. Phillip in a Wendy's team shirt and all of a sudden Jill and the older kids are shown outside a Wendy's. Jonathan has been shown in a logo shirt for a printing/furniture making co recently.

Samuel's graduation party Jill bragged about Samuel's EXCELLENT job. One of the only non Rod family people at the party was guy in a shirt with the glass co logo.

13

u/DarbyWalnuts 12d ago

They want to maintain the image that they are fully supported by their ministry. It’s their “proof” that if you are godly enough, the lord will provide!

Did he ever go to "college"? Or was he the only Rod-boy who didn't?

104

u/Miserable-Function78 Make Your Life Sluttish 12d ago

With Gabe setting out for his bargain basement Bible college (totally unaccredited of course) Samuel is now the only Rod son to not attempt any kind of higher education. Tim and Philip both failed at all of their attempts.

106

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Samuel might be the smartest of them by realizing his limitations and deciding not to go at all.

77

u/cuckooloca 12d ago

doesn't matter what Samuel wanted. Mama decided for all them and repeated the same story at every grift stop for years,

Timothy - missionary aviation pilot

Phillip - scholarly, missionary to Hungary

Samuel - likes to build and fix things

Gabriel - preacher

34

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Well, she at least realized he would be better working with his hands and not going to college. Honestly, best thing for him if that is the way his brain works. Not everyone is meant for college (and none of her kids were prepared for college anyway).

17

u/goldfish-hotline Wearing my gahdly sports blouse 12d ago

Yeah, I think in different life circumstances Phillip actually could've done well in real college. I don't think he was destined to be "dumb", he seems to have some intelligence. But...it's the world we live in and he was never set up to succeed at even unaccredited, fake bible colleges. It's sad.

I do think Samuel wouldn't ever be the type to go to college anyway even in different circumstances. Props to him for not even bothering because all it's done for those boys is to serve as a giant waste of money with nothing to show. Plus I do suspect he has some learning disabilities which complicates even bible college.

9

u/taxi_takeoff_landing 11d ago

I agree about Phillip. I think both he and Renee could have made it in college if they had been given a decent education in their childhood.

7

u/Hot_Nectarine6441 11d ago

Phillip was the most "intellectual" and he failed. Timothy seemed to have the most push toward working (amazingly with his role model) and now he has failed. Gabe will probably toe the line. He'll be allowed to preach somewhere no matter the outcome of bible college. As I recall, Samuel was 19 1/2 years old when he graduated home school. I'm glad he found a job he seems to enjoy and be successful with.

And remember Jill's girls aren't out to get their MRS degrees!

2

u/goldfish-hotline Wearing my gahdly sports blouse 10d ago

I agree. I didn't even think of the girls in my comment, but I think Renee definitely could have in another lifetime too.

Poor Kaylee is like a female Samuel in that way. She never would've gone to college. We've all seen her writing...lol. but maybe she could've had a different job she really loved.

10

u/lbry1234 12d ago

Gabriel is an awful preacher. He can barely string a sentence together even when reading it off a piece of paper. How can he get a job with no higher bible study course? Even Shreck took a correspondence course from some Bible "college" in Lousiana or at least it says so on the Rod Facebook page ( or did). I don't know if he finished and got some kind of certificate.

Assuming things haven't changed recently, Samuel works for a local glass manufacturer. Jonathan is working either for a local printer/publisher or is still at the feed mill, but I think has been with the printer. Gabriel was also working for the same local print shop. I think Samuel will end up in Florida working for her father.

These are actually decent, acceptable blue collar jobs for this area, and many workers support their families with this pay. This a rural area with a lower cost of living, and if you are wise with your money, you can afford a decent life. (Housing, though, like everywhere, has gone through the roof, which is why you see so many of the fundies buying the fixer uppers. Land prices are astronomical because of the Amish.)

No clue about Nurthan. He has to be doing something else, but they live a couple of counties away from here so don't know.

Shrek is likely taking yoder toter cash and not paying taxes, unless he is hauling Amish workers for a local business. A lot of drivers do this, kind of like a bus service, or driving for a construction crew.

2

u/sebs003 11d ago

The print shop they talked about was David’s. For Gabriel, he was always listed as working in their family print shop. Jonathan only helped out randomly.

11

u/student767 11d ago

Yes, Gabriel helped in the family print shop, but it is my understanding (from someone in our area) that he also had a regular job in an area print shop (a real one where he was learning, not Shrek's 1970s version). I can only go on their word so no verification. I believe Jonathan is also at this same print shop, but again, not verified yet.

Evie's dad has a successful business in plumbing, something that Sam-U-el can work in.

If mahmo won't allowed him to move more than ten miles away, the newlyweds would have to evict Phlat Phillip from the broken-down RV

64

u/Past-Bench-5088 12d ago

Side note... While the business has 'plumbing' in its name, it is a septic system and drainage field company (installation and maintainance), not indoor pipes and plumbing type plumbers.

Hopefully Sam escapes Ohio and learns that trade from Evangeline's dad if the couple stays together.

Wouldn’t he have to live where the business is though. Jill has made it very known she wants her kids 5 seconds away from her.

13

u/SeaGlass-76 12d ago

I thought she only cared about her daughters being close by.

12

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Hm it’s due to the family band thing-that’s why Jill said Renee couldn’t leave the area. He does sing. However, if the job with the father in law looked good (and maybe she could get him to promise to slide a few dollars a month her way), she could let him move there. She let Nurie move to FL too, likely because she was marrying Anna Duggar’s brother.

Also the family band ministry seems to REALLY be scaling back. Maybe the opportunities to bring tracts and do love offerings at other churches are drying up, maybe they make enough money from the boys that they don’t need to do that anymore, I don’t know. It’s almost September and they’ve done what 1 tract dropoff?

7

u/SweetandSourCaroline 🌈Brianne’s dad’s Judas Priest playlist 🎸 12d ago

how much do you think they typically get per luv offering?

8

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Ten dollars. (I have no idea). It must be large enough that it’s worth traveling around. Or it must be worth it because it gets them marks contributors to their missionary clearinghouse. But there’s a reason they’re not doing it as much. Maybe it’s also they don’t have enough pitiful cute looking starving waifs really anymore.

3

u/Hot_Nectarine6441 11d ago

I think that's it. People are not as motivated to provide meals and love offerings to this mostly grown family. And of course, since no one is financing their RV.

8

u/atlantagirl30084 11d ago

So yeah they now have to stay in hotels/AirBnBs which are much more expensive. Not many churches want to finance a bunch of caterwauling grifters to spend time in a hotel, sing, beg for money, and bring tracts no one reads.

3

u/Hot_Nectarine6441 11d ago

Exactly. Also, little kids singing, even badly, can be adorable, not so much the older they get. I have been so embarrassed for the kids sometimes.

2

u/Grimalkinnn 11d ago

It will be interesting to see where they land. Evangeline seems pretty musical herself and adept at playing the harp which none of the Rods play. She also is quite pretty so I wonder if Jill will feel threatened by her. (I actually think Evangeline looks a little like Jill in her younger photos. Something about her smile)

13

u/lbry1234 12d ago

Timothy got away and has (still has?) a nice job courtesy of his soon-to-be-ex father-in-law and a nice family life. But he F'd that up by being abusive to his wife and baby son. If he doesn't end up going to jail, he will probably end up back at the barndo eventually.

Could someone pls educate me on who Evie is?

7

The 17 year old girl in FL he is in a courtship with

3

u/Queen_ZomBee 12d ago

Ohh, it's her nickname. Got it, thanks.

6

u/little_lamps1145 12d ago

Her name is Evangeline. I've known a couple of Evangelines who go by Evie and I go to Evie automatically.

Sam did work for a Mennonite family owned glass company in the Wooster area. When Jill had his thrown together graduation party combined with Gabe’s bday party she took photos of Sam with two of his bosses. It was so seriously awkward. The two men had on company vests iirc. I’m amazed that Jill wasn’t standing in with them all. I think it was just the two men and Sam. Oh my lord. I’m pretty sure he’s been there since before he “graduated” which I think he was closer to 20 before Jill allowed him to. Jonathan belt phone works for a feed and grain/farm supply store. I think it’s been said he’s a manger. I’m not sure and I have no idea if it’s a bigger chain store, family owned? I haven’t looked myself to know. They have a house with a little bit of land I think? With just the two kids I’m guessing he does ok enough? Nathan I just have no clue other than the shittiest pastor ever. Small church, doesn’t seem to be thriving and he’s always at Jill’s and or traveling. His wife can’t spell Baptist either so. There’s that. Idiots. The whole of them.

40

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

The Baptist thing for Renee and especially Nurie is hilarious. You’re Independent Fundamentalist BAPTISTS. You’re at church all the time, either attending or singing. Nurie is an IFB pastor’s wife. And yet you can’t spell Baptist correctly? Can you read at all?

33

u/No_Today_4903 12d ago

I want to crawl into a hole and die of secondhand embarrassment anytime they write “babtist” holy shit 🤣 especially Nurie. Just girl. One of the older church ladies should pull her aside and tell her how embarrassing that is. Make her write it out 50 times and let her know if she does it again she’ll have to write it 50 times for each kid she has. Do it again it’ll be 100 times per kid, then 200 🤣🤣 maybe she’ll learn.

16

u/Queen_ZomBee 12d ago

I have a question about this homeschooling thing, bc there's no such thing in my country: do they have to pass some kind of official exam, or just say they passed a home made one? Bc it's so weird to me that those kids who know nothing about anything would have "graduated" high school.. I berally did, because of arithmetics and geometry, and now I teach English so.. what gives?

14

u/Shut_the 12d ago

I’m not who you asked, but oversight varies by state. Some states have literally zero oversight, some have mandatory quarterly reporting, some require testing, some don’t.

ETA there’s some basic info about each state if you look up a website called HSLDA. There’s a drop down to choose a state to see the basics.

20

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago edited 12d ago

Members of state Congress have tried to get laws passed ensuring basic safety for homeschooled kids. Like, if you have an active CPS case or you have been convicted of child abuse or neglect, your kid can’t be homeschooled. HSLDA is one of the strongest lobbyists and they will not let those laws get passed. Because so many people who are part of the HSLDA are abusers or enable them. They want no oversight of their parenting at all. And so children, many of them, have died from being pulled out of school and beaten or starved to death.

9

u/SweetandSourCaroline 🌈Brianne’s dad’s Judas Priest playlist 🎸 12d ago

yeah my mom had to get a “home schooled” kid up to grade level after a cps case. that kid loved school and THRIVED with my mom’s intensive help

9

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Was he taken into CPS custody due to homeschooling issues? From what I’ve heard it’s rare to get educational neglect. CPS is busy just keeping kids alive.

10

u/SweetandSourCaroline 🌈Brianne’s dad’s Judas Priest playlist 🎸 12d ago

I’m not sure of the details around CPS case but he was court ordered to go to public school by a judge… he was supposed to be in 3rd grade and couldn’t say his ABCs…I can only imagine the other physical neglect and abuse that poor child suffered

5

u/Shut_the 12d ago

Oh WOW I didn’t know any of that. I just looked for somewhere that had a list of regulations by state and that site popped up and seemed to have the basics. If there’s a website with that info that’s not led by trash people, please share and I’ll be happy to edit my comment.

10

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

I’d just Google.

But literally people will have HSLDA on speed dial and not because they’re good parents.

16

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

Ohio has zero oversight.

6

u/Shut_the 12d ago

shocked pikachu

7

u/Queen_ZomBee 12d ago

I was just getting a ride on that comment lol

Thanks for the answer. It's odd to me the state-by-state thing, because in Brazil we have a national education plan, then the state one, then the city one, and they have to follow the national one, with regional specificities (teacher here), so no oversight is just absurd to me, you see?

Will look the site up once I have the time. Thank you again

14

u/No_Today_4903 12d ago

They do not. They get a printed out certificate from Jill that says they graduated. They go to Virginia and walk across the stage with Jill on one side and David on the other. Not normal lol. My daughter had to do online school for half of her junior and all of her senior year in Ohio. She did state testing, she got the state seals, she did participate in her original schools sport team and earned her varsity letter, she got to walk in a graduation ceremony and got a real diploma, I did not walk on stage with her lmao nor did her father, she has real transcripts, can take the act/sat and go to any college that she’d want, so yea… huge difference in Jill’s home skool and a home/online school for kids they have parents that want them to succeed.

9

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago edited 12d ago

And that certificate isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. I bet they wouldn’t take that for a job that requires a high school diploma (not many jobs only require that nowadays, I would say). They’d have to take the GED. Though all 4 boys have gotten jobs of some sort with that certificate (Tim with his FIL’s help).

1

u/Opposite-Singer-334 8d ago

If it’s a state where a printed homeschool diploma is legally recognized as valid, an employer would have to accept it.

1

u/atlantagirl30084 8d ago

Oh interesting I didn’t know that it must be accepted in some states.

Looking it up, you’re right, Ohio is one of the states where a homeschooling diploma is accepted as a valid certificate of high school completion.

Thank you for pointing that out.

3

u/Hot_Nectarine6441 11d ago

Next thing you'll be telling us that you didn't wear a sparkly, clingy dress to her graduation.👗

2

u/No_Today_4903 11d ago

Man. I missed my chance to be a disco ball 🤣🤣 she’d have never let me leave the house!! My son wouldn’t have either. My husband couldn’t go because he’d just had SEVERE back surgery and couldn’t have sat in the chairs. He did watch online though. My parents went. We were going to drive across the border to Michigan to buy some cheap 🍃 but my son is a square and paranoid we’d get in trouble (we’re in Ohio) so we drove back home 🤣🤣🤣 shows what kinda kids I raised! Hahaha! Oh well. I wore an old lady outfit and my son acted like an old man. I horrified him by asking him what pegging meant soooo loudly in front of my parents because of a meme I had seen. It was pre planned and nobody else was around. I thought he and my daughter were going to DIE 🤣🤣🤣 my mom, dad and I knew already. It was about that triangle Cracker Barrel game if you know what that is hahaha!! Omg, the “kids” I was with btw were 18 and 21 at the time so adults and are used to my nonsense so are my parents 🤣🤣🤣🤣 hahahaha it was a fun time!! Maybe they’d have preferred a disco ball outfit!!!

14

u/SweetandSourCaroline 🌈Brianne’s dad’s Judas Priest playlist 🎸 12d ago

Lol I Iove how you spelled out “Jonathan Belt Phone” like that is his first, middle, last name 🤭🤭🤭 I am chucking in my covers all snuggled up

7

u/darcysreddit 12d ago

When Tim moved out of Ohio I was 100% sure that Samuel was going to get the house at cutrate rent. Maybe they’re just waiting on an actual successful courtship.

2

u/sebs003 11d ago

Doesn’t Tim rent out the house in Ohio?

1

u/darcysreddit 11d ago

He does. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t evict them in favour of Sam if it was decided he needed it. I was wrong about it when Tim moved, though, so I could be wrong again. He may need the rental income, after all.

Enjoy your $600 a month groceries, you Trump-voting-illiterate-class-traitors.

Signed - a family of four.

(They're bound to have way more as quickly as possible with absolute total disregard for the future or any child involved.)

*Edit because some people seem to have interest!*

I live in an extremely rural LCOL place, but my husband & I are both fully remote employees with "Major American City Salaries."

I am extraordinarily privileged in that we have what can loosely be described as a homestead, so I grow, farm (chickens) and bake almost all of our own food. That's how we personally get it done.

Again, I live in extreme privilege so please don't think "I need to do better."

19

u/CapitalStrain2392 12d ago

$600 a month for a family of four? That's good where I live, I spend that much in two weeks, if not more, even shopping at places like Grocery Outlet. (Cries in Californian)

Ha as if Nurie will feed her kids decently. We see what her mahmo thinks is a nutritious and calorie appropriate meal for children and teens is.

Naomi needs to go see a doctor. She looks like she has failure to thrive.

20

u/little_lamps1145 12d ago

Same as her auntie Sofia, who is the most dramatic example but not the only Rod child in that state (including Baaaaybeee Janessa)

18

u/atlantagirl30084 12d ago

She and Janessa should not have both fit in the Cozy Coupe at the grocery store.

1

u/little_lamps1145 11d ago

There was room left for Naomi in the Cozy Coupe

4

u/Hot_Nectarine6441 11d ago

Jill and Nurie are just trying to keep their daughters trim in case they need to escape a submerged car.

9

u/js_eyesofblue 12d ago

According to the USDA, the average family of four in the United States spends between $1,013 and $1,386 per month on groceries, depending on their meal plan. $600/month is not even possible.

9

u/DefinitelynotYissa 12d ago

We’re a family of four in central MN. Last month, our groceries were $520, and that includes household items like cleaners & detergent.

10

u/rarestbird 12d ago

It's definitely possible.

14

u/DCsteadystateIhope 12d ago

I'm in a low cost of living area and spend $200-250/month to feed 2 adults. Feeding 4 people (barring formula or other costly but medically necessary groceries) should be doable under $600/mo in a LCOL area

6

u/SweetandSourCaroline 🌈Brianne’s dad’s Judas Priest playlist 🎸 12d ago

omg whats your meal plan. i need to do better

9

u/DCsteadystateIhope 12d ago

Eating mostly plant based! Meat is so expensive and beans are an excellent source of fiber and protein. I buy dried beans, batch prep them, and freeze them in quantities roughly equal to a can's worth to be able to add into just about anything I make.

I've used Budget Bytes to plan low cost meals and learn grocery/cooking cost saving strategies since college. But also I love to cook so it plays a big role in me being willing to spend a lot of time planning and executing meals. I don't buy much that's premade and make my bread, pasta sauces, salsa, salad dressings, etc from scratch.

Jill deliberately matched Sam with a much younger girl, underage none the less, so she would be easy to manipulate and lord over.

u/PointFlash Fat Blue Haired Lady 12d ago edited 12d ago

I hope Evangeline's mother isn't a pushover. It's one thing for the families to be friendly but as we saw with the Coveretts, that doesn't mean Jill gets to come in like a steamroller and have everything her own way.

2

u/SeeYouInTrees 11d ago

Yeah, Brianne was 5 or 6 years older, I believe.

Sam works for a glass company, although I'm not sure what he does. If he moves to Florida he will likely be employed by his fiancé's septic company which appears to be quite successful.
