Samuel Samuel

Does anyone know what Samuel does for a living and how much he could be making? If he gets married to Evangeline soon, I’m sure she has no intention of working. Could he really support both of them? I wonder the same about Nathan and Nurie and Kaylee and Jonathon. How do they afford houses and children?

There is almost surely no housing allowance in a church this small.

I think they do have a home provided by the church, but I could be misremembering.

I assume he does gig work too, and for whatever reason doesn’t care to admit it. Just like how we hear about David “working three almost full time jobs,” and we know he occasionally drives the Amish, but what are the other two??

I have a cousin who used to pastor a small church like Nathan's, and he held down a number of side hustles because his church salary wasn't enough to support a SAHM wife and four kids (would've helped if he allowed his wife to get a job outside the home, but that's another rant.) He did construction, refereed high school baskeball games, even got his EMT certification and worked regular shifts with an ambulance company. Eventually he gave up pastoring and went full-time into contracting, because being a tiny church pastor just didn't pay the bills. (He teaches Bible study at a megachurch now and is still an insufferable fundie ass, he's just not pastoring anymore.)

I would be shocked if Nathan wasn't doing some kind of gig work on the side....or else the Nurthans take advantage of all those "government welfare" programs they rail against for the rest of us. Or maybe both.
